White Chocolate Rose

I’m not sure what drew me to this tea today, but I’m glad it did, because I had a most enjoyable cup this afternoon. Perhaps I really am developing a palate for florals? This tea reminds me very strongly of a rose perfume that my mom used to wear for special occasions back in the 90s; not all rose teas do, so perhaps this is a different usage than normal. It doesn’t hurt that the black tea base is malty and decent, and there’s white chocolate to smooth things out. If this was still available, I would be tempted to pick up 50g, but as is, I’ll enjoy one final cup of it some time in the distant future.

I picked up the small heart tin of this tea for Valentine’s Day. While the tin is adorable, I thought the tea was just okay. The smell of roses was overpowering and I could hardly tell there was any chocolate in this aside from the slimy film it created in my cup. In a blind taste test I would not be able to tell there was anything in this tea aside from roses. Sadly, I was pretty disappointed. Was it bad? No. Was it great? No. Would I buy it again? No.

Rich black base, creamy, quite aromatic and floral. I thought this was an earl grey type tea, so I was expecting bergamot. I’m still not sure if there was any or not. I made this as a soy latte and the creamy rose and malty base took centre stage.

Oh my god, this is the BEST tea I’ve EVER tasted! Please – PLEASE make this a permanent addition to the collection David’s Tea! Please! I love a bunch of your other teas but this tea is just so out of this world amazing that I feel like its in a class of its own.

It is wonderfully floral in a delicious way (think of a light rosewater flavoured macaron). It is just beautiful, perfection. The white chocolate adds a creamy element that rounds out the rose and the base tea for this one tastes better to me as well though maybe it just goes wonderfully well with the other flavours? I don’t know…

Here is what I DO know. If you want to really treat yourself add a bit of cream and sugar to this tea and you’re in beautiful delicious elegant high tea heaven. That is why I served up this tea when I hosted a “high tea” and invited a few girlfriends. I served this up with cream, sugar, some pastries and little sandwiches and also some champagne. My ladyfriends who were not really as “into” tea as I amall became converts to my tea-drinking ways on their first sip. Unfortunately i had to tell them that this tea is pretty unique and in a class of its own so they were setting out for disappointment if they held every other tea to this one’s standard.

Sigh. This tea is an absolute dream. I can’t say enough good things about it. Obviously if you HATE florals maybe give it won’t be for you but all I can say is that I would STILL buy a sample and try it anyways. A lot of people say they hate rose flavours or smells and it’s only because they associated with bad rose perfumes or bad artificial rose flavours. I wear a lot of rose fragrances and people who claim to “hate” rose always ask what I’m wearing and where they can purchase it. I think roses sometimes get a bit of a bad rap so if you think you don’t like rose but you’re open to trying it I would really recommend you get at least a sample. Otherwise you’ll miss out on the most amazing tea, sigh.

This tea smells awful. Strong rose oil smell is completely overpowering. Smells like beer (fermented, not hoppy). I brewed a cup of it anyway and the taste is not nearly as bad as the smell but I can tell you that this will be the one and only cup of this I will drink. Blah!

I tried a sample at my local DT and enjoyed it so much that I bought some right away. I haven’t been thrilled with many of their new flavoured teas, but this is an exception. For one the base is much more robust than what they usually use for their blends and I can actually add milk to it without it turning the colour and strength of dirty dishwater. The dry tea smells quite sweet and chocolatey but it’s the rose flavour that dominates, it’s a nice rose though, and it manages to avoid being too perfumy – I think the stronger base contributes to that. The white chocolate is more of an after-thought, coming in at the end of each sip. This was a lovely Valentines Day tea, I hope they bring it back next year.

This is the tea I’ve been waiting for! Last year I realized I love florals. I have some excellent floral teas in my collection, but none that are rose flavoured – or at least to my liking. But O-M-G, void filled!

This has the perfect rosey flavour to it. Absolutely perfect. It’s not too strong or too weak. It’s just a soft rose flavour that mixes well with the black tea. The white chocolate does not stick out to me. It just adds a pleasant sweet creaminess to it. I always drink my tea black, so it makes this one feel indulgent.

I love this tea! I steeped it for 5 minutes, near boiling water, about one-and-a-half Perfect Spoons, and had it black. I’m able to taste all the ingredients, but the most predominant to me is the rose & black tea. I’m very happy with that balance personally. It’s got such a lovely fragrance and really feels special to drink. I can imagine it being quite nice with a bit of milk, but I think I’d avoid making a latte out of this one as the rose is a rather delicate flavor and I feel like it’d be overwhelmed easily by too much milk.

This is definitely a tea for floral fans, it tastes about the same as it smells but just a little less sweet. I’d also love it as a perfume, haha.

This tea is interesting. It smells amazing, like sweet & floral rose petals. It tastes yummy too, but I wish that there had been more white chocolate in my tin. There were like 5 pieces to the ounce that I have and that sucks because it made it just a rose black tea- which is fine. but i wish that the white chocolate had been more prominent and creamy. I would have called this Rose Black Tea lol or maybe “A rose by any other name…” or something catchy like that haha.
