2022 Bird & Blend Advent calendar Day #6

I’m a fan of Earl Greys. Unfortunately, I became distracted this morning while steeping so the tea became too bitter. The splash of milk definitely helped to mellow it. The bergamot and vanilla come through well. I know I enjoyed this one back in December which is why the second tea bag from the advent calendar was still around. Not sure this would be a repurchase but would definitely enjoy it if offered.

Yay! I’m back on Steepster. I worried it was down for good.

This morning I’m having a cup of lemon ginger green tea while prepping for a day at a local graphic novel festival with my kiddo. I did not have high hopes for this tea after not really liking the others that were in this sampler but I will say, this one is pretty good. There is a good balance between lemon and ginger for me. I wasn’t looking for a strong ginger tea today and this fit the bill. I get a slight floral hint as well. There is a nice light yellow color.

Definitely not a “wow” tea. I don’t really taste the jasmine in this unless I slurp it and that’s still very faint. The green tea base is earthy. With the addition of jasmine I had expected a more flowery green but that’s definitely missing from this batch of tea bags.

That might explain why the box of Uncle Lee’s on our “pay it forward shelf” at work has been untouched for several weeks!

Pulled this one from the wrapper and immediately got a whiff of peppermint. It is minty but a bit oily as well. We’ve been suffering from Spring Allergies here and this was a comforting tea to sip while the sinuses struggled. I don’t think it will be an every day tea but it’s definitely a good one for when feeling not 100%.

Hot Cross Buns are in the grocery store now and it reminded me that I received a packet of this from a friend. In our region they show up when Lent begins until Good Friday. I don’t recommend drinking this along with a Hot Cross Bun because your brain gets all muddled with flavors. On it’s own, it does indeed reflect a bun. There’s a bready/yeasty flavor along with candied citrus.

I was digging through the cabinet for something soothing. I’m already pretty weary this evening, so I’m hoping for a solid night sleep. I think I’ve been mixed up since DST.
This one reminds me of Traditional Medicinal Throat Coat but not as good. The licorice seems to hit me first and then the spearmint and cinnamon. It’s a rather sweet tea (Hi there, Stevia) and I don’t think adding anything more would improve it.

Accidental Sipdown

I had 2 boxes of Celestial Seasonings in the cabinet and grabbed the wrong one. I had preferred this over the regular Sleepytime tea but tonight’s mug is not exactly inspiring. Pretty sure it’s because my mouth is sore from my dog headbutting me and causing a cut lip. It’s very sensitive, especially to heat.
Pushing through the sensitivity, this tea is pretty much as advertised. Creamy vanilla with spearmint and chamomile. I’ve enjoyed drinking this in the evenings throughout winter. It’s even better with a smidge of honey and cooling a bit. Pretty good for a grocery store tea.

Accidental… but still a sipdown!

Yup, and now that there’s a smidge more room, you’d better believe I was browsing for something new for the cabinet

I’m not a big believer in health claims like this one. Hydration will usually add to a healthy glow. Pretty sure this was from an office tea stash that wandered home with me. My office mate was a huge believer in various herbal supplement claims.

It’s quite floral and I only taste the rose and hibiscus. I rather enjoy it. The aroma and taste match, which hasn’t been the case lately. There is a sweetness to it (probably the stevia) and I found no need for additives to make the tea more palatable for me. Would I drink this 3-4 times a day, every day as recommended? Probably not, so I doubt I’ll see the skin benefits it claims to have. But if this was on sale at the market while shopping, I’d probably pick up a box.

This one is too tart for my liking. The pomegranate seems to overpower the strawberry. I see lots of recommendations for cold brewing and regret not reading tasting notes before making this. I followed the package directions to the T and find they failed me.

Ohhhh I like this one. I tend to drink a chamomile tea in the evening to calm before bed. It’s been a bad few nights of sleep, so I hope this mug will calm me some. The tea leaves look so pretty. The lavender is strong here so much so that I can’t identify some of the herbal components. I do taste the rose and maybe the lemon verbena. There is a tartness/sour to it. The floral scent isn’t too overpowering. I don’t think this could be an “every night” tea for me because I could see tiring of the lavender quickly but I definitely would purchase this again.

In the early 2000’s, my brother worked for a grocery company that removed items from the shelves and I ended up with a cabinet filled with random tea.

After I finished that cabinet, I started trying new things and exploring the world of tea. Still exploring, still learning, and loving this community.

I tend to take my tea with no additions and quite hot. Though often I find myself having to reheat my mug due to distractions. I’m partial to herbals, white tea, green, and blacks. But I really will try anything once.

Rankings:
100-80 Love in varying degrees
79- 60 Good, but in the friendzone
60-50 Ok, would drink if offered
49-20 Don’t make me try it again!
19-0 Didn’t finish!
