From Harney & Sons

Tower of London Blend is reminiscent of Elizabethan preserves, flavorful and tempting. We stir Chinese black teas with pieces of dried stone fruit, then finish the blend with oil of bergamot and honey flavor. Featured in our Historic Royal Palaces Collection, it has become one of our most popular teas, especially with its brilliant amethyst-inspired tin.

Ingredients: Black tea, dried stone fruit, bergamot oil, honey flavor

Deliriumsfrogs was right, she thought I would like this tea and I do!

I admit, I’m not the best at smelling things and saying what I smell for sure, but I am learning. I had to keep sniffing this one to figure out what it smelled like. Apricot? Plum maybe? Not just a peach stone fruit smell for sure. I don’t eat many apricots or plums so it could be that as well. But, it smelled nice and sort of mysterious!

It got me through having to let someone go today, and putting out a bunch of end of the month fires. That’s saying a lot. I definitely will restock this one at some point, since it fills my strong tea preference but has a different flavor than the norm. I tend to get about a dozen Earl Grays and then don’t have much variety.

This sample was sent to me in a swap by the generous boychik. Thank you!!!

This is very good. It’s a perfect afternoon tea. (I made the mistake of drinking it with/after a big breakfast, which it wasn’t really assertive enough for.) It tasted a bit like berries and vanilla, but after reading boychik’s review I recognized that there was black currant. It is very mellow and smooth. It doesn’t have the over-the-top candy-like black currant flavoring of their tea of that name.

I ran myself out of HT English breakfast over thanksgiving so this has been my go to travel cup while away visiting family on the weekends. I have been adding a few splashes of milk to this one and man it is a sweet flavorful treat in the mornings. I think I will continue to utilize H&S sachets for travel. Good tea with no fuss.

I went off of my diet today to attend an International Women’s day breakfast, and when I go off my diet, I make it worth it. I had a starbucks latte and some dark chocolate today which are my weaknesses. So I thought I would go ahead and try the three caffeinated H&S teas a purchased a few weeks ago (I’m only allowed one cup of caffeine per day on my diet and it has to be strait and I can’t drink black tea strait).

The smell of this was very fruity, mostly bergamot and some cherry notes. I took a sip of this before I added anything and it was quite astringent, though I only steeped it for 4 mins, which is super short for me. I added some honey and milk but it was still astringent so I added some sugar as well. There we go, perfect. Well as perfect as this tea can get for me I’m sure. I enjoyed this one the most out of the three I tried. I was getting mostly bergamot out of this, just the perfect amount of bergamot for me actually. Also a little bit of fruitiness as well. I’m getting a bit of honey in the aftertaste, but I’m not sure if that’s the tea or the honey I added to it. I will have to leave out the honey nest time to be sure. I would order this one if I was to make another H&S order, but the way things are going, I probably won’t be.

Sometimes stone fruits can taste really artificial and gummy candy like, but this is quite good. It’s sweet and jammy, without crossing the line, basically.

I’m picking up peach and plum with a bit of apricot for sure. Then definitely the bergamot, which isn’t overpowering, but probably enough to turn off those who don’t care for it.

What I’ve like most about the flavored H&S blends I’ve tried is that all of them allow the tea flavor to come through and be a part of the cup. This is no exception. It’s well-flavored but subdued. Really well done, especially for a bagged tea.

Thanks TranquiliTea

Tea & Cards TTB

Made a cup of this for my morning microbiology exam and it was delightful…I just resteeped, so this is a hybrid sort of review.

I love the fruity, honeyed tones that overlay the robust black base. It’s a solidly delicious tea that was equally tasty as breakfast as it was in the evening…it’s smooth with a lingering sweetness that makes it quite enjoyable.

Thank you Dexter3657 for sharing this blend with me.
I’va always been curious of this one especially after reading several notes of Ashmanra about it.
This is my first tea of the morning as it is supposed to be a bergamot tea and I find really nice to begin the day with an EG or even an EG’s spin off.

The liquor is very dark, depth and smells honey and berries.
Drinking it, I still get the honey notes and a little bergamot, stronger on berries, probably black currants to me, not sure.

I really appreciate the smoothness of this tea, free of any bitteness, almost creamy.
The flavours are not overpowering the tea itself and are subtile, natural and elegant flavours.
The tea base made of a mix of Chinese black teas is a medium bodied tea which pair perfectly with the subtile flavours evocated above in the note.

A very lovely blend.

why cannot I find bergamot nor citrus in the flavour rolling menu ? did you have the same lack ? It seems crazy it is not already present --so I decided not adding anything for flavours if I cannot immediately add all the ones I picked out

I don’t use that flavour thing at all, nor do I look at what other people put. It just doesn’t suit my approach at all, so I ignore it. I did however notice that a lot of people were missing the suggestions they wanted to use so I had a look at what was there. Those are some pretty wacky choices! Some of them sound like something Husband and my dad would use to describe their single malts. O.o

Courtney

Hah! Yes, I’ve sent in 3 emails now to add flavours, because I don’t add any if all the ones I want aren’t there. I’ve yet to see my suggestions added though.

Ysaurella

I think it is crazy we are allowed to create a tea into the database and not to add any flavour by ourselves…
Until yesterday I was not using the flavour things and I thought it can be ok to begin to use it but meh…no :)

gmathis

My favorite characteristic of ToL is its flexibility and forgiveness…as addlepated as I often get, I haven’t managed to ruin a cup yet, regardless of steep time or temp.

thank you gmathis, it’s nice to know that.I love these easy teas

Trying this for the first time, and it seems very reminiscent of H&S’s Paris, but not quite as strong in flavor. I have a feeling that my tastebuds are not at their best today though — this weather system has parked itself over me for days and I’ve just been feeling slightly off — so I’ll do a fuller review after another tasting.

Thank you Rosehips for the sample of this. For whatever reason I had always assumed it was a straight black, which I guess isn’t the case at all. So, when I tried it I was really surprised at the flavour notes I picked up.

I made this in a timolino to take with on Tuesday for a day or errand running, and it was really nice; definitely niced that Fruits d’Alsace, though not as nice as Boston. I got the black Harney base that I’ve noticed is similar between all three, and then honey, currant, and very light bergamot notes. Very calming, for a black tea.

The next little bit will be a sipdown. I’m going to make it in a mug at home to see hwo it differs when not prepared for travel…

Rosehips

Glad it was enjoyed. I like this one a lot, but Boston probably rains supreme for me as well.

I only had a little bit of this, so it is my first review of it and a sipdown. :)

Dry: This tea is made up of small to medium black tea leaves. The fragrance from the bag is divine and reminds me of a fruity bakery concoction for some reason. Fresh with black currants and is that a touch of citrus and honey?

Steeped: Dark brown clear liquor. I used a heaping tablespoon for the 24 oz teapot, so it was roughly 1.5 tsp per 8oz. The fragrance of the tea coming through in the steeped tea blends nicely with the fruity notes from the dry leaf.

Taste: This is a great fruit tea and a very nice blend. H & S has these kinds of teas down for sure. Reminiscent of Paris with a stronger stonefruit and honey base, it is very flavorful and has complex nuances. I can’t tell if I am getting a touch of vanilla in this or if I am imagining it. I am getting that bergamot-y background that I enjoy so much with Paris though. I added a touch of honey after drinking it straight and it was a delightful addition for sure. I might try a little agave with the next cup. If I ever tire of Paris, this would probably be my fallback blend from H & S. I wish they offered smaller tins of the loose leaf though- who wants 1lb of tea to start after the sampler? It has been like that for a whole on their website now, too. If you like black currants and honey in a nice medium-bodied black tea base though, then this is for you.
