This has to be one of my favorite senchas. Just had it for the first time within the last two weeks but have been drinking it everyday. It is quite amazing. Well worth the money. Personally found that 175 degrees is the perfect temperature.

Sometimes i get nauseous from drinking green tea, especially the jasmine varieties, and this green tea not only did not make me sick to my stomach, but was so so so delicious. I am planning on buying a lot more!

This was a delightful surprise. Earthy but yet clean tasting, and definitely not musty. A round finish. Good go-to green tea for morning, noon, night.

Fits the description on the pack — slightly marine with a buttery finish. Rich for a green tea, nice in the early evening, or would probably pair nicely with a creamy cheese like brie or camembert.

(1st steep: 45 sec) All kinds of seaweed and salt water goodness in the aroma of this tea. I love the bright rich green of the tea leaves themselves. Along with the ocean flavors there is a slight mineral undertone along with a slight grass note. The tea finishes with a creamy butter mouthfeel that is a little unexpected. Overall the tea is well balanced.
(2nd steep: 1 min) The aroma has shifted to be more mineral and salty. There is still an underlying flavor of seaweed that blends well with the mineral and saltiness. The grass flavors are also more predominant in this steeping. A pretty nice post lunch and into the afternoon tea. However, I could see myself settling down and drinking this in the evening after dinner.

I drink a lot of Japanese green teas, and am partial to the deeply steamed (fukamushi) senchas, so I was very pleased to see this sample in my first Steepster box. Kabuse is steamed for a shorter time, and the tea plants are shaded before picking to produce a sweeter, deeper flavor.

Upon opening the bag, the first thing you notice is the beautiful deep green leaves and hearty marine like aroma. A very good sign of the brew to come. I steeped the sample in my favorite Tokoname Kyusu teapot, at the recommended time, temperature and proportions, and was greeted by a slightly murky but bright yellow green infusion. Nice!

Flavors are bold, filled with notes of corn, peas, and the sea. Umami flavors predominate with a very slight sweetness to finish, and a very full, hearty mouthfeel. Not at all what I was expecting (I thought it would be lighter and more subtle), but definitely a tea I want to taste more of. This tea would go wonderfully with a meal but is flavorful and distinct enough to be enjoyed alone.

Delicious tea tea that will leave you craving more. Buttery, nutty finish that lingers for a while after sipping. Light, but leaves one satisfied with a savory taste. Fantastic aroma and color. Steeps well but tends to leave a fine residue at the bottom of the cup when using a metal filter. This tea is everything I could ever want in a green tea, and more!

Leaf: Scents of salt, very delicious smelling dry leaf.

Liquor: Super pretty light after dinner mint green color. Love
Flavor: Wow, so good. This is salty and buttery. Intense flavor, like clarified butter. Yet it is also clean, crisp, and smooth. No bitter, no grass, very VERY good green tea. YUMMMMM

Just re steeped this,,,you can with these type teas if you do about 10 seconds or less because now the leaves are filled with water. As soon as you see that pretty green,,,it’s ready. Same delish flavors,,,,,love this.

Very subtle but fragrant tea leaves left a smooth and nutty cup of tea after the first steep and a pleasant second steep with similar nutty overtones and a corn-like sweetness which is very pleasant!

Backlog:

A very soothing and brothy tea. It smells more vegetal to me than tastes. It doesn’t have a heavy grassy note to it. Instead, I’d compare it to steamed veggies.

A delicious green. Very invigorating. A good balance between sweet, salty and savory.

Received this from a swap, forgot who it was from ._.

Brewed in my shudei kyusu. Steeping times: 30, 60, 15 (at boiling).

The dry leaf purely smells of dried seaweed, while the wet leaf smells like boiled vegetables, mostly zucchini,and some asparagus. The liquor is bright green, full-bodied and thick with buttery and vegetal notes, finishing with a almond/hazelnut flavor. No astringency, no bitterness. Kind of sweet.

Man, this tea is so rich that I felt full only after drinking the first infusion, and I had eaten breakfast nearly an hour before. I’ve never had that sensation from drinking a Japanese green before.

This is only the first karigane I’ve had. This tea brews up a BEAUTIFUL greenish yellow color. The tea almost looks like it glows. I am getting the nori, grassy, and nutty notes.

I’m not going to give this a rating until I’ve had another chance to try it. I LIKE it. I just need another shot to enjoy the subtle flavors before I give it a score!

Second and last packet from an old Steepster monthly box. /mourn

This is really good – I made the first cup as per the packet – 6 oz @ 45 second steep, and it was good. I steeped the leaves again for much longer and it never really got oversteeped, so that’s quite nice.

Aww, man, I forgot the French press again! I did use it yesterday, and it worked pretty well.

Got this tea in a Steepster box. Trying it at work.
Ripped open the packet and took a sniff… Oooo, it smells good. A little grassy, but sweet.
The packet was so flat before I opened it that I questioned whether it could possibly have enough tea – I understood once I saw it – it looks like tiny pine needles, or grass clippings. Lots of dust coming through my basket. Use a fine basket.

The packet says 175 degrees, and our water dispenser is hotter than that, so I dispensed into another cup, let it sit for a bit, and poured it into my steeping mug.

On steeping, oh, it smells so sweet! Pulled the basket out – it’s hard to judge the color because my cup is green. But it looks pretty cloudy from the really small bits. Also, my coworker has now turned off the overhead lights, so that’s the end of our visual assessment portion of this review :D

Taste: It has a matcha-y bite to it, goes really good with my breakfast pastry-crisp things. I have no desire to sweeten the tea; it’s not exactly sweet itself, but the scent is, and that mixes all in and makes it awesome. Very slight astringency, more on the sides of the tongue.

This is really good, I’m glad I started my morning with this. I am usually a morning is for black cream tea person, but this seems like it will give me some zip for the day. I’m waking up already.

(1st steep: 45 sec) There is a nearly overwhelming amount of grass and vegetable aroma coming from this tea. I had a feeling it would strong from the green of the tea leaves. The first flavor you get is cut grass with a slight corn flavor underneath. The grass lingers for quite a while after the tea has been swallowed. Given the strength in aroma and flavor of this tea, I wonder if a second steeping will tone it down a little.
(2nd steep: 1 min) The aroma is toned down quite a bit in the second steeping, but is still much the same as the first cup. The flavor has not been toned down much. However, the corn undertone is not present in this steeping. It has been replaced with a more vegetable flavor. I am having trouble picking out what green vegetable, but if I had to guess I would say broccoli. Despite these subtle changes the tea still has the long finish present in the first steeping.
