Bug Reports for Sunday 7/21 Update

Uh on vacation, so I haven’t had a chance to see if this has been reported but you used to be able to see how many times you’d drunk a tea in totality even if you removed a tea from your cupboard and then added it back later ie, with a repurchase. Now it’s only counting from when it was added to the cupboard. Noticed it as it says I’ve only had Florence once. Well yes once since it was added back to my cupboard :)

I take it back…under tea ratings this shows correctly, just not in my cupboard. Ie. known bug. i was confused because I now have 2? Teas showing zero times logged and east week everything was at least one.

Jason select said

Yep, that’s a known bug. Sorry about that!

Here’s a weird one:

Go to http://steepster.com/teas (or click on a tea vendor, ie http://steepster.com/teas/verdant-tea )
then uncheck one of the tea types on the side.

it’ll take me to a page that says:

Best Yerba Maté Teas from ICA
As rated by the Steepster community

There aren’t any teas that match that criteria yet.
Are we missing one? Add it to our database.

Mike select said

Oh, good catch! Added this to the list :)

I am not getting notifications to people I am following. They can comment or post tasting notes but it will not show up in my dashboard notifications.

Jason select said

mrmopar: Is this still happening? Can you send us any links for tasting notes of people you’re following that aren’t getting posted to your dashboard?

Not sorting thru all the posts to see where I posted/commented on this, but my Cupboard is listing the number of times drank correctly now! =)

Dinosara said

And the sort is back! Woohoo!

Oooh! I didn’t even notice that part! And there is an option for sorting by your rating of the tea, which I think is new, and really like!!

I don’t know if this is a bug related to the update or not but I keep getting error messages when I try to add a new tea to the database.

Debbie select said

I’ve tried several different teas, thinking the company name for the first tea (Teas’Tea) might have been giving some issues but got error messages for other teas I tried adding as well.

I’ve been having trouble adding a new tea since this afternoon as well.

Frank, if you’re reading this, am I missing something and SBT’s Lime Cola really isn’t in the database already? All the other SBT seem to be.

Mike select said

You should now be able to add a tea.

Scheherazade already kindly added my tea for me. =) But I was able to add a description and a photo for it. Thx Mike!

I didn’t see this already reported after briefly scanning through previous posts, so here’s my problem:

I can’t edit the rating on a tea listed under my rated-teas tab. I can change the rating there, but when I go back to my log, the old rating still displays. However, I can adjust the rating from the tea log (where can’t see the exact number rating on the sliding scale) and that adjustment seems to stick.

Jason select said

Hmm, was thinking this was fixed but we’ll take another look.

K, thanks! It looks like a change to a tea rating now sticks on the rated tea tab, but the old rating still displays on the tealog entry. I’ve refreshed both pages multiple times to see if one or the other would change to match, but they don’t.

Just checking in on this one again.

All changes I make to the rating from the tasting note view update everywhere, but changes made directly from the tea ratings list do not.

Jason select said

SHould be fixed now. Are you still seeing it?

well, amongst all the server loading errors and pages loading without all the images, I managed to test one and it seems to be working now. thanks! :)

Cool, glad to hear it.

I am not really sure if this is a bug. Has anyone else noticed that their dashboards are really slow on their followers tasting notes? I mean, normally when I log in I have 20-30 new tasting notes per day to read, but since the update I have only had 5 or 6 a day. Are steepsterites just avoiding posting notes or am I missing something? Nothing extra shows up when I go into the explore option…

Tealizzy said

I just noticed the same thing…I’ve been gone for a week and thought there should be a lot more notes than I have showing in the dashboard. Hmmm.

Jason select said

We saw some problems with this earlier, we’ll have to keep checking to see if anything else is happening.

Uniquity said

I still have very few notes on my dashboard, perhaps a dozen per day. Not to be snobby but I also have very few likes on my own notes (compared to usual) which suggests it isn’t showing up for everyone.

Jason select said

Oh I see… ;)

Sil select said

I just assumed everyone was on vacation. Lol. But echo the feeling of having fewer notes.

Jason select said

Yea, we’re seeing it. Trying to track it down now.

Angrboda said

I noticed the low number of likes too on the last couple of posts I made. I thought it was a combination of people being on holiday and that thing where everything didn’t shop up on everybody’s dashboards.

Just today I started getting email notifications for topics I’m subscribed to, even though I specifically had that disabled in my settings.

Jason select said

The discussion notifications aren’t actually controlled by the email settings in your account (sorry, it’s a little confusing). The notifications for discussions are managed on the discussion itself. Check to make sure the bell icon in the top right on a discussion page doesn’t say “Subscribed” and make sure that you uncheck the box that says “notify me when this topic is updated” when you post in a discussion. That might be what’s happening.

Although, we have had some bugs with those recently where people get notices even when they unsubscribe from those, so let me know if that’s the case here.

sansnipple said

oh, so i can’t subscribe to topics to get notices on my dashboard without also getting my email massively spammed?

Jason select said

When you subscribe to a discussion, that’s actually what controls the notifications by email. For the notifications on your dashboard, you currently can’t unsubscribe from those, those just come in based on what you’ve interacted with. We’ve had people request the ability to unsubscribe from the dashboard notifications too (in addition to unsubscribing from the emails), but we don’t have that built yet.

So to what you’re asking, unfortunately, if you subscribe to a discussion you’ll get the notices on your dashboard AND in your email. That’s something we’re looking into for the future though.

Usually it’s not as a big a problem because most discussion threads don’t have as frequent activity as this one, but it can be a lot if a discussion is popular.

oh ok, thanks.

Not a bug. Just wanted to say thanks to the folks behind the scenes for All their hardwork updating the site and fixing things afterwards. It’s much appreciated!

Dinosara said

I second this! Thanks guys!

Angrboda said

I agree with this!

Jason select said

Aww shucks.

TeaLady441 said

Yes! You guys are awesome. Can’t wait to see what’s coming in the future.

i don’t remember seeing anything on this one, but if i search for a tea and pick it from the search it won’t show as being in my cupboard. If i go TO my cupboard to click on the tea, then it shows as being in my cupboard. Doesn’t happen for all teas. In this case it was the 2011 noble mark from mandala. http://steepster.com/teas/mandala-tea/33934-noble-mark-ripe-puer-blend-2011

Jason select said

We’ll take a look at that, thanks.

Jason select said

Is it still happening? Might be fixed now…

Dinosara said

I’m not sure if this was happening for you, Sil, or whether it was really not showing up, but I have noticed (today in particular) that when I click on a tea that is in my cupboard from the search it will initially look like it is showing as not being in my cupboard, but after about 30 seconds the little button that says “add to cupboard” will suddenly turn to “in your cupboard”… it just takes a while to load that it’s actually there.

Jason select said

Hmm, Dinosara, does it usually take that long. If not, is it usually pretty fast?

Sil select said

hmmm i’ll see if i can replicate the issue from last night.

Dinosara said

It’s pretty inconsistant. Timing it from once the page fully loads, I had one from the search that took 11 seconds, a few in a row from the search that were instantaneous or nearly so, one from the cupboard that was about 20 seconds, a couple more from the cupboard that were instantaneous, then one from the cupboard that took 4 seconds, then another from the search that took 7 seconds.

Today things on the site seem a little more sluggish than they have been the past couple of days, but not too bad.

Sil select said

seeeems? to be ok now…. i’ll keep an eye out
