Bagged Bonanza Morning #2 – Tea #4:

Muppetlove thanks for this one!

While searching for Chocolate Mint Oolong here on Steepster there is only ONE in the database! This is a surprise! MORE TEA COMPANIES NEED TO COME UP WITH CHOCOLATE MINT OOLONGS! The time is NOW, folks!

Eventho this is a bagged tea – this is darn tasty! These are those bagged gems I call treasures. Every once and a while you will find a bagged tea that makes your eyebrows raise like “The Rock”. This was one of those tea bags for me, I guess.

The senses were surely awakened by the flavor in this one! The minty-fresh POW followed a secondary flavor of chocolate…in this case they used a chocolate and carob combo. It works nicely. It’s rare if I ever say a flavored tea could do with LESS Chocolate…actually I doubt I have ever said that in my life…this one does have a good deal of mint but I would also welcome more chocolate.

BUT…overall for a bagged tea and a flavored oolong in a bag at that…I really like this!

Keep reviewing the bagged teas! Great idea…

I almost wish I had some bagged tea to review…almost. ;)

hehe “raise like The Rock.”

Found this bag in my stash of work teas – It’s one of the few bagged teas I really enjoy, you just have to watch the water temp since it’s oolong. I love the subtle chocolate flavor and pop of mint at the end of the sip; it’s simply yummy!

This tea reminds me of Thin Mint Cookies…yum!

Oh stop now, I have neither this tea or thin mints in the house. hehe;)

It took me awhile to figure out what this reminded me of. Now I want cookies to go with it..haha.

I like chocolate mint blacks but I never tried chocolate mint oolong! Interesting.

The bag is probably 2 years old and only 1.6grams. The water was heated in the microwave. Together that is a recipe for flat weak tea. It was still chocolaty and minty but when it is fresh this is pretty tasty – or at least that’s the way I remember it. I am letting my rating stand due to the stale bag and assuming my earlier review was accurate.

With mint being such an overpowering beast, I think its difficult to blend sucessfully with other flavours. With this bagged oolong you get mostly mint, followed by a hint of chocolate on the back of your tongue. Probably the best out of the bagged Stash oolongs I’ve tried, the minty chocolate seems to work well with those strange mulched tea leaves. I really can’t imagine it working with a decent oolong though…

Had 2 mugs of this today! It’s an absolutely genius idea. I’ve always thought that oolong tastes chocolately, and mint is like the universal balancer in the tea world. This tea is blended perfectly and absolutely lovable.

It’s like you’re having a treat, even though it’s calorie-free (if you drink it straight like I do) and healthy.

At least, that’s what I told myself as I used it to wash down half a pint of Chubby Hubby…

Smells promising in the dry teabag. Brewed at 3 minutes and all I taste is mint. Brewed at 5 minutes and I am tasting mint with a faint hint of chocolate. It is a crime to trap an Oolong in a tea bag. Having said that, this is tasty for a bagged oolong.

Good flavor. I can taste both the mint and the chocolate, and yet neither overpower the tea.

While searching mint teas on the Stash site, I pondered over this one. Peppermint and chocolate sounded good, but in tea? So I settled for a little 10-pack (what the heck).

The tea smelled wonderful before brewing. The flavors in the brewed tea is lacking though. Peppermint is there, but only getting a hint of the chocolate. Will need to tweak this next time, but for now it’s not living up to what I expected.

I have an interesting relationship with Stash. My mother bought me a package of their Acai Berry tea at the beginning of my second year of undergrad and I enjoyed it on and off; so when, five months later, I really started getting into tea, I naturally chose Stash as my start point. I hadn’t realised, however, when I bought a pack of this, that oolong was a kind of camellia sinensis tea and thus had caffeine! When I found out I was somewhat turned off, since I was vehemently against caffeine at the time (and still try to limit my consumption), so the box was left to lament in my tea cupboard.

Fast forward to now when I’m searching for a quick tea to help stay up during crunch time and I tend to turn down bagged camellia sinensis tea, and I think, what the hell, let’s try it.

The bag smells just like girl guide cookies. It really, really does. The chocolate is a bit light, but it’s the exact same kind of minty chocolate smell as girl guide cookies. Once brewed the smell isn’t quite as strong, but still quite nice. I have to say that I was really dubious about this because I just don’t go for bagged tea unless it’s by Pukka or a herbal tea these days, but I found myself enjoying this. The taste isn’t quite qirl guide cookies, but it has a rounded mouthfeel and I found myself drinking it quickly. I might even make another cup before the night’s over.
