Gimme some mo’

Fresh mint, tangy lime and a splash of rum. Is there any way to improve on a classic mojito? Sure…Just add raspberry! A touch of fruity sweetness makes this classic cocktail sing. And best of all, it colours it a beautiful, smile-inducing bright pink. So of course our mojito tea needed to include everyone’s favourite berry. The result? A rose-tinted tisane that’s fruity, minty and utterly refreshing. Served over ice with a splash of rum, it tastes like a summer afternoon on a sunny Havana patio. In short, pure heaven.

I have to say they hit it out of the park with this one! I brewed it hot, sweetened it a touch and poured it over ice with some lime slices. I love the balance of raspberry and mint, the slight raspberry aftertaste and that hint of citrus zest. It delivered exactly what I expected the taste to be.

I really like the summer collection so far. (The sangria tea made with red wine and club soda is also mighty close to the real thing. But that’s a whole other review…)

Sipdown (122)!

So this is my 900th tea rated! That’s a pretty cool milestone; here’s to nine hundred more! In reality, I probably hit 900 a while ago – but because there are different teas grouped under the same entry (I’m thinking the “Random Steepings” entry specifically) it only counts as one thing rated. Even still, it makes me feel proud and accomplished to have tasted so many different things!

I grabbed this blend on the day it was released; I was stocking up on the summer blends and actually had no intention of grabbing this one but the lack of reviews (negative or positive) at this point combined with the smell of the dry leaf – which was strongly raspberry and strikingly familiar made me curious enough to grab an 8g sample – just enough for a cold brew!

In addition to the dry leaf smelling very familiar and strongly of raspberries it’s also very apple-y, with punchy lime notes too. I get very little from the mint itself. Which on one hand I’m ok with because the idea of a raspberry mint tea actually have very little appeal to me, but at the same time it defeats the purpose of this being a mojito inspired tisane.

I really like how this one tastes; it’s predominantly sweet, plump raspberries with just a sliver of tartness. It still tastes incredibly familiar to me and it makes me feel a little nostalgic but I still can’t figure out why. I tried going through DT’s former raspberry blends in my head, but I couldn’t think of any that compare to this blend. Then I thought maybe it was similar to RiverTea’s Infinite Good Feeling tisane (which is my favourite raspberry tisane; I’m still mourning the loss) but that’s not it either.

Regardless, the wonderful raspberry taste is only strengthened with sweeter notes of apple and ripe, fresh lime. It reminds me of a really good fruit salad but also of a sticky sweet Slush Puppy; the line between candy and realistic fruit is very closely tread with this blend. The mint doesn’t play into this blend that much to me; maybe I just didn’t get a lot with my small sample but I barely pick up on the taste. So, this one definitely doesn’t remind me of a mojito – but I did really enjoy it.

Not really sure where I stand on fruit + mint in my tea, but this was good! Possibly better than Watermelon Mint. Very refreshing as an iced tea.

farewell tea. thankfully this was a one cup sipdown that was left so that i can make my sipdown goal for the month. next month may prove a little harder as i know i have a few teas inbound that will increase my numbers. Still trending downwards with weight though, so keeping up with that. While i enjoy this one, it’s not my favourite. I like the raspberry flavour and the mint but it’s not as refreshing as i want it to be. Still enjoyable, especially as a cold brew or hot brewed, drunk cooled..but i’ll keep this in my back pocket as an option if i run out of fruit teams this summer….i think it’s going to be a hot one.

This does indeed live up to its name. First there’s a pretty intense, tart raspberry flavour followed by a supporting note from the mint. My only complaint here is that this is a pretty juicy tea, whereas I more associate mojitos with a very light, not overpowering beverage. This might be ideal for making actual mojitos though, as it could stand to be watered down a bit. If so, I would recommend adding some lime as well.

I bought this today and just made an iced cup (steeped hot for probably 20 minutes before adding ice). Added a little honey and lime juice to taste and it’s so good! I only wish I had rum.

Very fruity/berry tasting with a hint of lime and mint. Thankfully I’m not really tasting the other random ingredients (raisins, carrots??). It’s a little tart – probably just from steeping so long – but not in a bad way.

Didn’t notice the mint so much when I sampled my friend’s iced tea, but if you really love raspberries this is the tea for you! Pretty much tastes like you’re sipping on fresh, cool raspberries right out of the garden! <3
