From DAVIDsTEA

Lemon aid

Ever wonder what makes lemons so…lemony? It comes from something called “citral,” a molecular compound that gives lemons their fresh citrus smell. And lemon myrtle contains about 20 times more citral than a lemon. That’s right – it’s even more lemony than a lemon itself! Prized in perfume, aromatherapy and cooking, this sweet, lemony herb also happens to make the most refreshing, sublimely lemony tea in the universe. Ever.

Ingredients: lemon myrtle

Bought 10g. of this to try it.

the dry leaves smell like a lemon lollipop! mmm… this is promising.

steeped that smell is tenfold! i’m surrounded by it! liqueur is the color of lemon lollipops!

time to taste: very lemony without being sour, not sweet thought it’s like a sugarless lollipop, i’m going to sweeten this with some agave to see what happens, not the greatest result the tea ends up tasting fake… not great learn from my mistakes drink this clean.

As soon as I smelled this tea, I was totally stoked to try it. Sat down with a big cup of it today and I was not disappointed. I did enjoy drinking it on its own, but I think it would be even better mixed with a straight tea, or as the base for my wife’s throat-fixing honey-lemon recipe.

Word of warning: It did get pretty bitter the longer it sat, so I would go with a lower temperature and shorter steep time than recommended.

A re-review of this tea.

More than a year ago I stocked up on this tea (like, 150g worth and this is a light tea which means its like 2 tins worth) because DAVIDs was discontinuing it. This was before I started buying a lot of teas at iHOT and realized they also sell lemon myrtle. I loved the fact that this was a natural herbal tea (which is now a rarity of DAVIDs). Now it’s been like a year or a year and a half and this is the oldest tea in my cupboard and I’m really trying to drink it down. What I’ve realized with lemon myrtle is I like it more as an “additive” in blends and not as much on it’s own because even though it’s herbal it’s prone to bitterness. For that reason I’ve been adding it to blends like super ginger to add a little lemon flavour but avoid the bitterness. Also, in my opinion, this smells like marijuana when brewed up. Weird lol.

Anyways, dropping my rating from 90 to 75. I was wayyy over generous lol. I’m now down to half a tin and hope to be done with it soon because I’m trying to keep my cupboard with teas that are under a year old (even 6 months if possible).

I’ve found that I like lemon flavored herbals with anise. If you have any on hand, you might want to give it a try.

Kristal

Not the biggest fan of anise (unless you are talking about the dutch anise milk :) ). Thanks for the tip, though!

Mmm, lemon! I was happy to have this one show up today (day #4 of the advent calendar!) to kind of counteract two less than stellar teas earlier in the week. Nice and strong, no extra flavours or ingredients. I think I may have steeped this one for too long, but whatever, I’ll deal. I’d imagine I’ll be adding this one to my cold remedy collection as well, as I imagine this would go good with some honey to aid a sore throat.

Very lemony and not too sharp or bitter. The aroma reminds me of citronella. As well as being a delicious non-caffeine tea it just might keep away the mosquitos in the summer.

LOL re the mosquitos. (Did you mean to rate it 42 if you’re recommending it?) ;-)

Ubacat

Lol. Actually I meant to give it a much higher rating but I’m on the iPad and couldn’t get the rating slider to work right. It IS good .

Ubacat

There! Finally got the rating right.

This is a meh. I bought it. I don’t mind it but I often don’t grab for it so I wouldn’t buy again.

Best. lemon. tea. ever. Seriously. It’s also my go to sick tea. I add a little bit of lemon juice and honey, and it stops my coughing right away. I also love that this tea is organic. I’m hoping for DAVID’sTEA to add more organic teas back to their collection – they seem to be more enjoyable.

I had this tea outside during a snowy night. I couldn’t have asked for more. It’s the perfect tea for such a night. It’s the most lemony tea I’ve ever tried, it soothes your tea lover soul, warms you up, makes you feel special.

Perfect if you enjoy pure citrus-taste! With a spoonful of honey stirred in, this concoction saved me during my week-long cold-and-flu stupor. The lemon soothed and the honey added a tinge of sweetness. I love mixing DT’s Lemon Myrtle with ginger tea as well for that soothing effect. It’s great if you let it cool and then add ice cubes, you’ll have organic Lemonade!
