I received a sample of this tea in a recent order. It’s really mellow – the flavor is there and has complexity, but it’s not smacking you around. I like that aspect, however the flavor profile isn’t one I gravitate towards. A little too cookie and not enough spice.

drank Jasmine Green Tea by Rishi Tea
75 tasting notes

I was given a sampler box of bagged teas by Rishi but branded for La Colombe, a coffee roaster. This was one of the teas. I followed the steeping guide on the bag packaging, though the temperature was approximate because my kettle isn’t that fancy.

I could smell the sweet jasmine as soon as I opened the sachet package, and it continued to be as aromatic through the brewing process. The flavor is strong, but not overpowering, with the jasmine balancing the slight bitterness of the tea.

Flavors: Honeysuckle, Jasmine

The scent is mild, as is the flavor. It hints at some of the bitterness of black tea, but stays just on the edge of something that would require me to add some milk to make palatable. This I can drink without additives, and enjoy the flavor that is somehow simultaneously robust and soft.

The bergamot whacks you in the face as soon as the package opens, and it doesn’t diminish with the brewing. I added some milk as I usually do with strong black teas, and it toned down a bit. Still stronger than I’d prefer.

The scent reminds me of straw and grain. The flavor is like puffed rice, which is one of my favorite cereal grains. Very smooth and pleasant morning drink. No sweetener or milk required.

drank English Breakfast by Harney & Sons
75 tasting notes

This is currently my go-to office tea, after trying an array of English Breakfast style teas. It’s flavorful, but not too strong, and only requires a splash of milk. Great for dunking a McVities chocolate biscuit when I have a cup in the afternoon.

While I appreciated the convenience of tea bags for my “morning black tea, doesn’t have to be special” habit, I was starting to feel guilty about all the waste they produce, particularly if they are individually wrapped. Switching to a loose leaf and finally buying myself an office Finum filter helped ease my conscience.

Oh, and I had a resealable bag of this tea in sachets before I bought the loose leaf tin, and they were not as flavorful, so an upgrade in quality along with feeling more environmentally friendly.

The scent of the brewed tea is light and floral. I was tempted to try sipping it while it was too hot, but I refrained. I can taste some fruit, but the tannin is overwhelming.

Nice, grassy/earthy flavor. It’s got a little smokiness, but very mildly so. I like it better than the tuo cha.

drank Cinnamon Bun by Della Terra Teas

It tastes kind of like a cinnamon bun, but isn’t really what I was hoping for. I felt so uninterested in brewing another cup that I ended up giving away the rest of the bag at work.

Profile

Bio

I started as a coffee drinker who appreciated tea. I mainly drank a few flavored bagged teas (and of course, Southern sweet iced tea). I pull out the Throat Coat and Breathe Easy when I’m sick, but aside from that, teas had never been a daily part of my life. However, my sister has exposed me to a broader range of flavors, and to loose teas, which was good when coffee started bothering me and I needed a new source for warm cups of caffeine delivery systems. I mainly drink English breakfast teas these days, but occasionally explore some others. Earthy teas that are low in bitterness are my preference, and I tend to avoid fruity teas in general, with a few exceptions.
