Study time tea! Loving the earthy, grassy sencha-like flavour of this tea right now. Really full-bodied and leaves a nice aftertaste.

In other news, I finally got my November Tea Sparrow box, really looking forward to trying the new teas as well as chugging that Buddha Bamboo! Hopefully it will last me more than two days.

A couple days ago I tried cold brewing that White pearl of Fuijan. I don’t know why I keep thinking this tea will be better cold. It is NOT BETTER COLD. It gets suuuper bitter for some reason, and when I tried to balance it out with rock sugar (and regular sugar, which is a first for me, when it was still too bitter) it just tasted sickly sweet and bad tasting. The one thing I noticed was that cold brewing it brought out its apricot flavours really strongly, something I didn’t find in the hot brew. I just wish I knew how to make it taste at least decent when cold. I’m gonna stick to the hot version of this tea. Someone please remind me not to ice thing thing again. It would just be a waste of leaves at that point.

I had to go get this one from Sbux on my lunch break today when I remembered that Joy tea comes around in November! I really like this one, the blend really works well together. It’s kind of sweet, a little but fruity, and you can definitely taste the mingling black/green tea in there. The sweet/fruity aspect of it is more noticeable as it cools down, but it is definitely not too overpowering. Really enjoyed this one! Will be going back for more quite often.

Morning tea! Oh how delicious you are, Mrs. Grey.

On another note, November Tea Sparrow boxes are on their way, and guess what’s included in this month’s box? BUDDHA BAMBOO! WHOO! I am SUPER excited for this one, as I went to Tea Sparrow’s Tea-Off tasting event last month and Buddha Bamboo was my absolute favourite from all the different teas I tasted there. I wanted to go buy some right away afterwards from the vendor (since Tea sparrow was only selling sample sizes), but there’s a $15 shipping fee tacked on on orders under $50… and I wasn’t quite ready to buy $50 dollars worth of Buddha Bamboo, so unfortunately I left the vendor’s website empty-handed. Fortunately, I get to experience the wonders of this magical tea yet again!

I bought some of POM’s Pomegranate Super Tea at IGA Market today because it was half-priced; yay for fast-approaching expiry dates! It was actually really delicious! Such a shame that they are quite expensive otherwise. I could definitely taste the tartness of the black tea in there, but it was balanced out really well with the pomegranate juice and sweet cane sugar! Yuummm! It was a really nice treat at the end of my work day. :)

drank Angel Falls Mist by Thé Kiosque

Well, to start off, I don’t know whether the Angel Falls Mist tea I ordered from Trees Coffee was from this company, but I don’t know whether Trees makes their own blend or buys it from a tea company. Plus, I didn’t feel like adding yet another one of the same teas. This one matches the description given by Trees on their menu, so here we go.

It was a pretty strongly flavoured tisane. Could definitely taste the lemon and tartness of the various fruits in this blend. Could only smell the strawberry, I think the taste of it got drowned out by everything else. I would have added something sweet to it had I known. It was pretty decent hot, got a bit more tart/sour as it cooled. Not bad, but probably wouldn’t order it again.

My favourite green tea from Starbucks, got it in my lunch break from work today. This green tea is really smooth and full-bodied. It doesn’t smell or taste too grassy (or like seaweed, thank god). It’s pretty plain and simple, but very enjoyable.

My absolute favourite spin on Earl Grey tea. This tea smells so good, and the taste is even better! I love the citrusy hit this tea gives, and the flavour profile is so bold and satisfying to drink. I am always always excited to have this tea!

drank Earl Grey by Old England

Third and final tea that I brought back with my from Slovakia; this one is apparently made in England, though I think it is distributed by a German company (hence all the German lettering on the box). I was super excited to “have a legit black tea straight from England,” so I bought it to try it out.
It’s pretty nondescript, to be honest. You’ve got your basic black tea with a tiny bit of bergamont flavouring. At least it’s not too bitter; it’s not exciting either, though. Body is pretty decent, doesn’t taste hollow or anything. I will probably just drink this when I don’t have time/the mood to fill a strainer with my good loose-leaf Earl Grey blends.

drank Royal English Breakfast by Teavana

I had this black tea to work yesterday. I hadn’t drank it in a long while, and it was nice to taste that smooth, full-bodied flavour of this English breakfast blend. When I say smooth, I mean velvety. It doesn’t have an overpowering black tea bitterness or astringency, but is very satisfactory to drink.

Also, I tried the rest of my White Pearl of Fuijan this morning iced. I had not added any rock sugar to it while it was hot, and today it was predominantly bitter. Had to get rid of it.

On a side note… I realized my Argonian name would be Sips-Her-Tea.

I went to visit the Blue Teapot for the first time today, and was delightfully surprised at their quaint store and decent prices. The sales associate was nice, although I got the feeling that she didn’t know as much about the teas as I’d like; she couldn’t tell me a lot about their selection of traditional Chinese or Japanese teas (which I wanted to try).
I ended up buying this white/green tea blend. I figured that since I don’t currently have a white tea in my cupboard, might be good to start with something that already has flavours I’m familiar with. The tea smells very nice dry, you can definitely smell the apricot and jasmine in it. Brewed, the aroma reminds me a bit of a flowery mango.
I can’t taste any fruitiness when I sip it, though, which is a bit confusing to my tongue (who heard from my nose that this tea smells like delicious fruit). I can definitely taste some jasmine and the green tea – not sure where the white tea is hiding, I don’t quite know how to identify it by taste yet. I know that white tea has a very subtle flavour though, so it is probably being overwhelmed by the other dominant ingredients in the blend.
Overall, I find this tea to be like a fruity/flowery smelling version of regular jasmine green tea, which is interesting, but like I mentioned before, I don’t like it when the aroma and flavour of teas don’t match – it confuses my expectation for the tasting part, as my taste buds are expecting something much different, even if it is good tea. It’s decent and I will drink it happily, but will be trying something new next time.

Another tea I brought back with me from Slovakia – this one is made in the Czech Republic. I feel like having this tea is like a treat, because of its full and heavy sweet flavour profile. It’s quite delicious, in a “dessert” kind of way. The tea turns dark purple upon completion of brewing. Yum!

Dark purple tea! that’s neat.

Bio

I joined Steepster Nov. 2/’15. I am an aspiring law student, currently studying for the LSAT. Meanwhile, I drink a lot of tea, work as a legal assistant and watch Netflix in my down time.

Ever since joining Steepster, I have tried a whole bunch new tea, met awesome people, and learned quite a lot! I am still expanding my tea horizons, currently working on exploring the oolong and puerh territories. Oolong has been a pleasant journey so far, while puerh is more rocky and uncertain. I shall keep trekking on!

My favourite teas are blacks and greens, both flavoured and unflavoured, and I have a few staples that I drink all the time.

I love to try teas that I would otherwise not have access to, and therefore I am always looking for people to trade samples with. Send me a message if you are interested!

My Wishlist is teas that I would like to restock (as a note to myself). My ratings are mostly arbitrary. Generally, anything above 90 I will likely restock. 70-80 I enjoyed, but will not go out of my way to get again. Anything below 70 was not that great, and the lower the mark the less I enjoyed it.
