125 Tasting Notes
Sometimes there is nothing better than good old chamomile tea. Tonight that’s all I crave.
There is not really much to say… It smells like chamomile and tastes like chamomile. It’s flowery, smooth and refreshing. It’s everything chamomile tea should be.
Perfect way to end this blah day.
Sipdown!
Another sample packet in my DT collection I say bye bye to. After the blah day I had today, I needed something new and fresh to try, something I haven’t had before…. and something fruity. This seemed like a perfect choice, mango, pineapple, strawberry, orange…
I have to say, there was really not much in the sample packet… I guess the pineapple and mango cubes and orange slices are quite heavy. Surprisingly though, I had enough for a cup and even a re-steep. I did add some darjeeling to it as I didn’t feel like drinking tisane, but not much, maybe half a serving.
Overall this was quite tasty. I found it fruity and refreshing with notes of mango, pineapple and even a bit of peach? Totally thought there was peach in it until I re-read the package and noticed no peach added. Maybe I mistook tangerines for peach? I swear my mind is playing tricks on me… o.O
Most importantly, it did hit the spot and made my day a little better.
Preparation
Sipdown!
I got the sample of this yesterday with my DT order. I find it quite enjoyable, although I suspect I should enjoy it a lot more than I currently do.
In its dry form it smells deliciously of coconut which I like. Once steeped it’s vegetal and I detect coconut and some toasty notes. Possibly some nuts.
Upon re-steep it becomes mostly vegetal, buttery with some coconut notes still present.
I wish I had enough to try it again on another day. Today I’m in a blah mood, with blah weather outside, being blah, blah foggy out there. I suspect that’s influencing my tea perspective… I just can’t seem to get excited about anything so far today.
I’ll refrain from rating it on account of me being in a weird mood today… The jury is still out on this one.
Preparation
Somebody find my socks! They’ve been blown off!
I just got this few minutes ago with my latest DT order. This is so good, it’s everything I hoped it would be. The dry tea smells of vanilla and rum… After I steep it for 5 min over the boiling water, it’s vanilla, rum, and butter… lots of butter. I detect coconut notes too. The black tea has a strong presence here and a well balanced astringency which I like.
So far so good…
Edit a bit later:
Upon re-steep the tea held its wonderful aroma and flavour, except for the black base which got a bit weaker (missing the subtle astringency). Next time I will do the first steep for only 4 min and see where it takes me. This is definitely tea I am thinking of restocking in the future.
Preparation
I’m sitting here, sipping on this tea and I’m surprised for couple of reasons:
1. There is apparently a liquorice root in this tea and I don’t taste it (it’s a fantastic thing)
2. The cutest little teapot for one that I got today at a vintage shop, is incapable of pouring tea. I didn’t think that could happen but it did. My counter was a bloody mess pouring this bloody pu’erh… how fitting.
This tea is interesting… I definitely get the woody taste of pu’erh, which I like quite a bit and I get a lot of hibiscus. I think I get some notes of grapefruit and orange but hibiscus is mercilessly fighting them into the shadows. Like I mentioned, no liquorice and I’m very grateful for that. I picked up this tea as a sample when I went into the DT shop couple of weeks ago and I didn’t know back then how bad liquorice can be in a tea (for me anyways). If it was today, this tea would never make it into my shopping bag. I’m glad it did because I actually quite like it.
Edit: The re-steep was unfortunately a failure. Most of the flavour was gone except for the taste of pu’erh. Huge difference between the first and second steep.
I will gladly finish the sample but will not be restocking in the future.
Preparation
Hehe, maybe that’s the reason it ended up at the vintage place! At least you can still use it as display if it’s cute enough:-)
Maybe you can figure out what’s wrong with it? If it’s a xiying pot, the leaves probably get stuck..
It’s a third time I’m drinking this tea and finally sat down to write a tasting note. I got this tea first as a sample from DT but my daughter drank most of the sample and there wasn’t enough left to make a satisfying conclusion.
I then had an opportunity to visit DT store, which I might add, was an awesome experience. I got whole bunch of samples and Salted Caramel was one of them. Drank it again but it left me confused.
Now I’m drinking it for the third time and I think I got it figured out.
The dry tea smells a bit like chocolate to me which is a turn off and I actually had to double check the ingredients to make sure there was no chocolate in it.. lol I also detect no caramel or coconut in the dry aroma… Once steeped however, I smell caramel… all caramel, which is a good thing. Coconut on the other side, is nowhere to be found and that is not a good thing. I love coconut.
Now I take a sip. Still no coconut but caramel is nicely toasting… almost burnt but not too much. I wish my taste buds could pick up on that elusive coconut though.
Overall I’m not thrilled but it goes nicely with my breakfast of muesli bagel and white cheddar cheese. I’ll re-steep it in a little bit and see if anything exciting happens then.
A little later: re-steep #1 Went to the store and got some fresh shredded, unsweetened coconut and added it prior to re-steeping. Now this is better. Now I got my caramel and coconut and I’m whole lot of happier. :)
Preparation
Yesterday I braved the cold and set out for one of the vintage shops in the area in a search of new teaware. Monday was a bust so I had my hopes high for Tuesday. I came back with a lovely teapot and a cup for one (fits about 2 cups of tea like I wanted, teapot sits on top of the cup), Skye McGhie Wild Rose design. I’m normally not into florals but this one was so adorable I couldn’t pass it by. I’m browsing the net now and see other designs by this artist that I would love to have.
On to the tea business… High Mountain Oolong from David’s Tea steeped in my new Skye McGhie teapot.
I read through my first notes about this tea and I’m surprised that I was unimpressed when I drank it for the first time. This tea is just so lovely and unique tasting and it’s got this delicate, well balanced astringency that I enjoy so much. I detect vegetal mixed with floral notes. Lovely, just lovely. Sadly, I only have a tiny bit of it left… I have a sneaking feeling that this one will be reordered.
Haha! Glad to hear your day is better, told you about the sunshine!!!
