1040 Tasting Notes
This is why you have to try everything. This is why I’m always excited to see things in a swap/care package that I would never choose for myself.
This is totally different from the other Assam I was drinking earlier. This is a beautiful tea – not at all what I would expect from an Assam. Still not in my preferred flavor profile for black but really interesting.
It’s a little fruity and and light. Some wine/grape notes while it’s really hot. As it cools those notes deepen and it becomes a little bitter – but in a good way – almost sweet bitter chocolate. Very interesting.
Thanks so much Sil for sending this my way.
I’m not quite sure what to say about this one. I am always happy to try tea that my friends generously send me, but in general I don’t really like Indian black teas.
This is light with some high notes. It’s not as acidic/astringent as I normally find Assam teas. The fact that I’ve drank three cups of it tonight must mean that it’s not that far out of my comfort zone. I guess that also means that this is not a typical Assam. I’m sure this is a quality tea – JW has great teas, but it’s just not to my tastes/preferences.
Thanks Sil for the opportunity to try it. :))
Thank you Sil for sending a sample of this my way. :)
I’ve western steeped the whole sample three times and it held up really well to that.
This isn’t my favorite style of black tea, but it certainly is a decent cup. It’s really smooth and gentle. A little starchy, quite sweet, a bit fruity. I’m not getting any malt or chocolate.
Happy to be drinking it today, but this wouldn’t have a permanent place in my cupboard.
OMGsrsly was generous enough to send me one of these orbs. Thank you so much.
I’ve been finding that I like sheng better with less leaf than is normally recommended. So yes, I broke this in half.
About a week ago I used one half and did a gongfu session with it. It was nice and light. I didn’t take detailed notes – but it was good. Maybe just a hint bitter with a little grassy – but not excessive.
Today I’ve taken the other half and dumped it into a steeping basket and a Davids perfect mug. I know, I know – but western steep works for me sometimes. This is one of those time. This is really good with short – 15/20 sec. A little creamy, really smooth, just a hint of the sheng mustiness. With this preparation, this is right up there with my favorite shengs.

Yep – I love this one. It’s amazing. I’ve drank it a few times now and I’m finding that it’s better with a bit more leaf and some sweetener really makes the flavors pop. I’ve been adding more sweet than I normally would but it’s just soooooo good with the extra sweetener. This might not work for those that don’t like their teas sweet, but for me this works really well.
3 tsp in my Davids Perfect Mug – 85C – 3 min and add some sweet – hug your mug
I love this – I have lots of moonlight at this is by far the best I’ve tried.
Boiling water – flash steeps = liquid honey with a hint of apricot. It’s just perfect.
When I get the rest of the moonlight drank – I will buy a cake of this.
Thank you OMGsrsly for sharing this amazing tea.

OMGsrsly sent me a couple Black Pearl tea balls (she got them from from MissB) – thank you ladies. These are the larges black pearls I’ve ever seen. They are tied like a flowering cone and the leaves are just beautiful. The tea is nice and malty. This is one of the better pearls I’ve had. Really like it. Thank you so much for sharing.
