I love this tea
I adore this tea
Why am I still buying pu’erh samples?
For my tastes this is pretty much perfect.

I’ve been drinking this at work for the last couple of days. I really like it. Nice, bold, malty, a bit chocolate, some sweetness. Pretty much just yummy

OMGsrsly

Ooh, I found my RCX from W2T. :D

Dexter

Is that the expensive one we are suppose to drink together and compare notes?

OMGsrsly

Yes. Smells like I’ll like it better than you, I think. I’ve got the package open to air out a bit. I can’t drink a sheng tonight…

Dexter

Not tonight – way too late for sheng (and I’m distracted) I’ll open this package too and hopefully we’ll have a chance to try it soon….

Dexter

Smells a little smokey and a LOT green…..

Dexter

Hmmmmm where to set this that the cat doesn’t knock it over….. ?

OMGsrsly

Maybe this weekend-ish? IDK. :) Mine is in a bookshelf the cat can’t really get into. Haha.

I really like this one and I’m sad to see it go, but it’s getting old and the sipdown needed to be done. Oh well – I have other great teas in my cupboard, but this one will be missed.

drank Honey Black by DAVIDsTEA
1040 tasting notes

Thanks OMGsrsly for sending me a sample of this Always interested in trying new straight black teas – thank you.

I’m going to be perfectly honest here – the worst thing about this tea is the price. It’s way too expensive for what it is. Sure it’s a nice Taiwan black – it’s mild with just a hint of honey, it’s pretty starchy (potato ish). For this price it should he oozing in honey notes. I have others that I like better that are about half the price.

Sil

i haven’t tried it yet but that’s kinda what i figured it would be like..

Dexter

It’s fine – it’s totally drinkable but at 14.50/50g is should be more than that. I like the Hans Ecological one better and it’s way cheaper. IMHO

OMGsrsly

Yup. Definitely too expensive for what it is.

Not really having fun with this one. It’s way too green for me. A little bitter, and not much else. Flat – boring – grassy.

This is not for me.

drank Rou Gui Oolong by Cultivate Tea

This is a really nice dark oolong. Very easy to drink – nice and spicy. Second steep has some sweetness to it – not sure about actual cinnamon but for sure that impression.

Thank you so much OMGsrsly – I really enjoyed this one.

This is a really nice coconut tea. Nice and creamy – very enjoyable to drink. Banana it is not.

Thanks OMGsrsly for letting me try this one.

drank Hot Buttered Banana Bread by 52teas
1040 tasting notes

OMGsrsly was kind enough to send me a sample of this and I really feel bad for asking – I know how much she liked it.

This is just ok for me. The flavors just aren’t as bold as I would like – nothing offensive just a little flat for my tastes.
Thanks for the opportunity.

OMGsrsly

I seriously don’t mind. I liked it while I had it, but I have so much… there’s no point hoarding anything.

Smokey – salty caramel

Several steeps in and it’s still too smokey to drink.

I don’t like this

OMGsrsly

Interesting. Smokey?! I totally didn’t get smoke from this one. I have aired mine out since I packed yours up, though. Open bag in my puerh bag.

Dexter

This has been sitting on the table unwrapped since I got it. To me this is as – or more – smokey than a lapsang. Almost undrinkable…. I’m going to try again with way less leaf and see what happens.

OMGsrsly

Did I mis-label it? I don’t understand why I’m not getting smoke, if you say it’s that smokey. :/ Every other note said “smoke”, too.

Dexter

My piece looks like half a doughnut….I would think your piece should sort of match this one… Dunno, I did 7g in my fairly large easy gaiwan and it was REALLY smokey even with flash steeps.

OMGsrsly

Mine’s all broken up in a baggie. Smells like pretty much nothing.

OMGsrsly

Now I’m sniffing the other teas I have…

OMGsrsly

Yep. Most of my other cakes and bricks smell like various levels of funk and mustiness and “puerh”. This one smells nothing like any of them.

C.S. Lewis – “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

I needed to update my profile. I joined Steepster 03Mar13. I am just amazed at how much my tastes have changed since then.
When I discovered loose leaf tea about a year and half ago, I didn’t know anything other than my local Davids and Teavana/Teaopia. Stumbling onto Steepster CHANGED EVERYTHING.
Hello, my name is Dex I’m a tea addict.
I’ve been through the “I need to try every single tea out there” phase. I really hope the worst of that has passed. I’ve learned enough to know that I only need to try HALF of all the teas out there. LOL
When I started this journey, I was all about the flavored rooibos and fruity tisanes. Don’t get me wrong there is still room for dessert (chocolate/caramel/nutty) Rooibos teas in my cupboard and I still do enjoy them, BUT I am quickly learning to appreciate the some of the straight teas of the world.
Big bold (but not icky)pu’erh is suddenly my favorite, followed by woody/roasted oolongs. I’m just starting to explore straight black teas, and have found some that I really like.
Generally speaking I’m not into greens at all, only like the occasional green oolong, and white teas are just too mild for my tastes (unless they are fruit flavored). I still enjoy really good fruit tisanes, but am now cold steeping them.
I don’t like floral/herbal blends, and mint anything is not on my preferred list.
I am still exploring new teas, adapting to my changing tastes, understanding more every day how little I really know about tea. Ultimately I would love to find approximately 50 teas that I just “can’t live without” and always have them in my cupboard. That might not be practical, but that what I’m searching for. It’s going to be a fun journey.

All in all, I love this site. I’ve met some wonderful people, and have gotten to try some amazing teas because of them. It really restores your faith in humanity when you get a note saying “oh by the way I sent you some tea”. Wonderful, generous, people here.
