From Teavana

Decadent rich chocolate marries elegant Italian style orange marmalade to evoke the flavor of chocolate covered orange slices. Threads of sweet chili threads unite this dynamic cup by adding a whisper of heat and spice to the infusion.

Sweet chocolate Cocoa forward with bright orange & hints of sweet spice, chilithreads.

Very light tasting- I think there’s quite more orange to chocolate.

Oh dear. I’ve had this in my cupboard for a long time, so I figured I would try and sip some of it down. I was craving a latte and thought this might fit he bill. Checked tasting notes and noticed that other people added dairy. Okay, seems like it’s worth a try.

Aaaaand maybe not so much. I steeped 3tsp in 8oz of water for 5 min, then added it to a bunch of warm milk. It curdled ever so slightly, I think – could also just be weird tea residue. Into the blender with sugar, and it blended up to be a nice, smooth looking latte. Sadly, the flavour is almost all tart orange with a hint of chilli. Bleh. How is that even possible?? The dry “leaf” is just loaded with chocolate!

Added half a teaspoon of ground chai. Slightly better. Added two teaspoons of cocoa and another spoon of sugar.

At this point it’s tasting like a chocolate orange, which is what I was hoping for There’s also a lot of other flavours covering up the flavour of the tea.

I might try one more cup straight, since I recall not hating this when I bought it, but I won’t be sad to see it leave my cupboard either.

This tea is representative of one of my favorite combinations… orange and chocolate. It tastes fabulous! I made it as directed and added 1 tsp. rock sugar per 16 oz. cup of tea. I taste the orange first, and the chocolate as a wonderful after taste. The spice isn’t strong, but I do sense a kick attributable to spices. The store told me that they are discontinuing this tea, but it is still currently available online.

Gift from carol who

I received this tea in a little gift pack from carol who who was kind enough to send me a starter pack to show me how you guys do tea swaps around here. Very sweet of her. ^^

I have to say that Teavana has yet to impress me. This one was interesting but I couldn’t get into it. It was so OILY. I have never had a tea that ran me off due to being too OILY before. But this one is weirdly oily.

I think it’s citrus oil? or chocolate oil? I have no idea, but you can see the oil separating on the cup and it just isn’t my cuppa. It smells neat, it tastes okay… But not great to me. And I couldn’t drink super oily tea. It just weirds me out on some level.

Anyway, the flavor isn’t wowing me and I know I won’t seek this one out for a purchase. But man the idea of orange chocolate tea … I wish.

I still have nightmares about this one.

Arshness

Hahahaha. Omg it’s not just me. XD

Cameron B.

In my experience, teas that have actually chocolate in them (not nibs or cocoa bean) tend to get an oily film. Gross.

Cheri

I’ve also found that teas with actual chocolate in them seem get that oily film on them. I’ve learned to ignore it if I love the tea. Just make sure you clean your teaware to remove it, or it shows back up in the next tea you make.

Arshness

Uggh yeah. >_< I cleaned my Ingenuitea thoroughly after that. It was icky.

But the flavors here didn’t amaze me anyway. I was hoping for “Orange Tootsie-roll Pop!” and it tasted more like “Who ruined this… orange flavored syrup water with a hint of chocolate and oil?”

haha. >_< Well it was at least an adventure!

madametj

I’m totally with you. Totally unimpressed with everything I’ve tried from Teavana.

Thanks to Carol Who for this one, I haven’t always been a big fan of Teavana blends in the past, but it’s always fun to try something new. :)

I liked this a little bit better when the tisane was hot because then I got more of the cinnamom/chocolate-y notes, actually I was thinking carob. Now that it’s cooled off a bit I get a lot of the orange coming up very strongly. Overall I think this is okay but probably not something I would keep around on a regular basis…

now I’m off to do my physical therapy exercises!

i see, so this one is tisane…I just bought a herbal blend from DAVIDsTea, not yet to try…hope your physical therapy is going well.

TeaBrat

thank you :)

I keep on going back and forth on whether I like this tea or not. I always remember it being good then I make a cup and maybe yes, maybe no on the results. I think I need to really try different brewing parameters and see if I can figure it out. I have had some really good cups and then some that are… meh.

I may be joining you in physical therapy (in spirit if not body). I’ve been dieting and exercising. I’ve been walking 3-5 miles daily. :) Then I wrenched my knee the other day :( and of course I just kept going and going and going when I should have rested. Well I didn’t and now I have a very sore leg, I can’t find a comfortable position and sleep at night. I won’t be able to do my walking and I’m afraid that I will start gaining weight sitting around on my butt. Ahhh, but at least I can still drink tea!

TeaBrat

Hi Carol, sorry to hear about your leg, I hope you get better soon :)

This was sort of a cheater sipdown. I usually steep everything twice partly because most of my teas seem to hold up well to a second steeping and partly because I’m cheap and this helps me justify the cost of my tea.

With this tea, though, I just couldn’t bring myself to resteep.

Oh, the flavor is spot on. It’s very orange and very chocolate. The flavors just don’t meld for me; the whole thing was just too sharp. So I dug out the biggest cup I have, added a tiny bit of sugar, steeped the little bit I had left, and gulped.

Turns out, this one isn’t terrible if you sweeten and understeep. And, turns out, I don’t feel as guilty as I expected to, only steeping this one once. The cabinet space more than makes up for it…

If it makes you feel any better, I tend to not resteep herbals anyway.

I had this one to go as it’s one I’ve been meaning to try. While my hopes were at a medium-ish level for this I was still disappointed. It seemed rather weak to me. I really did not get a lot of chocolate, no heat, and just a muddy citrus flavor. The cup was drinkable in that “it’s freezing today so I really don’t care much as long as it is warm” kind of way.
However I had a great experience in store today which is always nice considering their reputation.

I got a sample of this from CarolWho, and I liked it a lot. I’d tried recently some orange-type teas from other places, and none of them had the orange taste I wanted. This one did. I do agree that it might taste a bit artificial, but I’m ok with that, if my other choices are bland.

I decided to retry this tea because the BF was so sweet to try to buy me yummy tea and I only tried it once. The first time it was HORRIBLE, but I’m really glad that I tried it again because it was actually quite pleasant! My suspicion is that I steeped it incorrectly last time, but I’ve changed too many variables to know for sure. It is older, I only steeped it for 5 minutes (last time I left the tea in the cup the whole time), and I also added milk this time. Milk may have also been key. I should increase my n for this study (translation: try it more times :-) )This time I got mostly chocolate with spices with a hint of orange. Last time, it tasted like a zombie orange would if such a thing were possible. Also, I went to Ikea and got tins to store my looseleaf tea. They are magnetic so I can stick them to the side of my refrigerator AND I got to use my label maker on them. I’m quite pleased.
