Got this in a swap from Ost
Decided to follow Red Leaf’s cold latte directions for this. I added some sweetener, and I’m definitely digging this method of prep. The latte gets a delicious foamy head and everything. As far as the matcha itself, the base is got that typical yummy taste that I can only describe as matcha. I can drink a sweetened unflavored matcha latte and be perfectly pleased. As far the English Toffee, I’m not getting too much of that. I’m getting a kind of sweet butteriness, sort of caramelly, but less caramel than the Caramel Matcha. I see that some people had to add a little more to coax out the toffee flavors, so I’ll try that next time. Still delicious though! (:

Preparation
Iced 0 OZ / 0 ML
Arshness

I put milk in a shaker, add matcha and sweetner then shake it til frothy and well blended :) Cold or hot, delicious. :D

Mandy

I usually put milk and matcha in an old empty butter container (ghetto I know) and shake that, but I still get some little clumps. This time I did 1/2 tsp matcha, ~1 cup of milk, 4 ice cubes, and sweetener into a blender and blended away. Zero little clumps and a thick foamy head. I’ll still use the shake method when I don’t feel like washing the blender afterwards, but I prefer the blender.

albertocanfly

Ooo…I’m going to have to try to prepare matcha this way. That sounds incredibly delicious…Starbucks Green Tea Frappe, you better watch out:P tehe.

Nooooo, mj1851 sent me her last teaspoon of this and I screwed it up! I made a smoothie, but used too much ice and although I can taste the matcha, I can’t taste the flavoring. I love matcha so I’m happy, but I wish I would’ve been able to taste the toffee.
Boo :( Definitely have to place an order with red leaf teas now. Thanks for enabling mj1851 ;P

distinctive flavor

This is pretty good. I wish the flavor were a touch stronger, but it’s still nice in an iced matcha latte.

I only have a small amount of this, and I probably won’t order it as this is not in my flavor wheelhouse, but it’s enjoyable while it lasts.

keychange

hahaha flavor wheelhouse!

I ordered a sample of this…I guess it was last month, and I don’t think I reviewed it yet. I’ve made it as an iced latte and a hot latte, and honestly, I’m not getting much flavor…maybe a little nuttiness. I really seem to have a hard time discerning the flavor from these matchas. I guess I need to order them at the robust flavor level.

I got home from work early and thought matcha sounded good. I made some with milk and it was tasty for sure. I pretty much chugged it. I’m a matcha fan thanks to the free sample I got from Red Leaf. I probably won’t order this one again, but I’m excited to try out a bunch of their other flavors that sound delish!

Flavors: Butter, Nuts

Cheri

I have now gotten three samples of this (two from Red Leaf with orders, and one in a stash sale) and I have yet to try it. I probably should do that before it goes bad…. They have Belgium chocolate as the free May sample this month, which is one I just love.

mj

I must have the May sample then! I was going to place an order anyway…maybe they can throw in the May sample with that order. Thanks Cher

mj

Sorry, I meant Cheri!

Marzipan

I like the caramel more than English toffee. They are similar but caramel is better.

Cheri

I have a sample waiting for me to try it of both the English Toffee and the Caramel. Neither flavor is calling to me yet, which is why I haven’t tried them. Dang it, I knew there was something else I needed while I was out. Milk. So no iced matcha latte for me in the morning tomorrow. Maybe on Friday I’ll go ahead and try one of those two….

mj

I tried it once with some sparkling water because I was also out of milk. It was much better with milk, but still pretty good that way.

VariaTEA was awesome, and along with our joint matcha order, she sent a ton of matcha samples my way. :)

This one I did my standard way, mixed with cold milk and allowed to sit in the fridge a few hours. I’m not really getting anything distinctly toffee-like, but it does make a nice creamy milky drink at least. Nothing special for me here, but always grateful to be able to try matcha flavours without buying them myself.

Thanks VariaTEA!

I’ve been searching up wellies for a significant portion of the afternoon (you know, because it’s not as though I have exams to study for), and I think I’ve finally narrowed it down a couple styles. What do you guys have for wellies?

Anna

A few Tretorn’s Skerry, a few from Joules, and a few Hunter, some random ones… plus two steel-toed pairs for working, but I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for. I am a huge lover of wellies.

I LOVE MY WELLIES.

mj

Well, I know you don’t know me so you probably don’t care, but I got black wellies with multi-colored polka dots from Target and I get compliments on them all the time!

ohfancythat

I just bought a pair of hunter willies. Haha wellies! Not willies. Stupid autocorrect.
I’ve been wanting them for awhile. Sadly my legs are too short and let’s face it, not quite slender enough for the regular ones, and the adjustable ones were still so tall that they rubbed behind my knees and actually touched the back of my upper leg when I sat down soooooo I went with the short ones. I did a lot of research on these, haha. And just black, because when I’m spending that much on something, it better match everything!

Courtney

Anna haha! The steel-toes, maybe not quite so much. :P What did you think of your Hunters? Were they the more recent, non-European made ones?

mj1851 I am open to all input! Even if I don’t know you haha, I appreciate the comment. :)

whatshesaid I’ve been contemplating Hunters for a long time, but in doing research I’ve come to change my mind haha! I wanted red, but that’s not an option now, so it looks like navy blue. I have the mindset if I’m paying a mint for something, it better be pretty. :P

ohfancythat

Which brand did you think you’ve settled on?

I agree with “it better be pretty” but didn’t want to feel limited with what I could wear my boots with, so my clothes are pretty and my boots are black, haha

ohfancythat

Though I wouldn’t mind a red pair in the future since I have black now!!

Courtney

I have semi-settled on Le Chameau. I haven’t actually hit ‘submit’ yet though, because I want to find everything possible online about them, so I’m making an informed decision. I ultimately want good looking and high quality. Also, Princess Kate has some Le Chameau, which was just an added bonus. :P

Anna

I think the China/Serbia-made ones are fine – it’s definitely not a Sorel situation. But no, after the buyout and manufacturing changes, I wouldn’t consider them for hunting boots, work boots or anything similar – they’re fashion wear.

Also I heartily recommend http://www.countryattire.com/ for all your country attire needs. They do free worldwide delivery on everything and have saved me on numerous occasions. Also big selection of Hunter styles!

Courtney

I have had that site bookmarked for ages Anna! I looked for the chosen ones there and found them, though there’s no indication of duty. I also found them on Amazon.com, where they charge up front for duty so there’s no nasty surprises at the door.

I ultimately veered away from the Hunters because of the manufacturing change. I don’t just want boots for fashion. If I’m spending a pretty penny, I want them to last a loooong time.

ohfancythat

I’m hoping my hunters will last but I guess time will tell! I figure our rain season isn’t super long anyway and I wear something warmer in the winter

Courtney

Yes! I hope they do too. :) I will be inquiring haha. I do love the colour selection of the Hunters. I even tweeted to the company today to see if it’s possible at all to still get a European-made pair. Still waiting on a response there.

Anna

Oh, I love Le Chameau – if you want leather-lined, they’re exceptionally good – but obviously at three times the price of the Hunters, they better be. I think they have simpler ones that are not leather-lined, though?

Can I also just say how much I respect that you’ve done so much research, and that you look for ONE quality item rather than fifteen fashionable ones that last a season? I seriously love that.

Anna

I’m pretty sure they moved production somewhere around 2008, 2009 or so when they were bought up to become the new Mulberry/Burberry quality-turned-trendy fashion phenomenon.

Courtney

Do you have any Le Chameaus of your own? It seems there isn’t a ton of stuff out there, it looks as though I’ve read nearly every review, blog post, and comparison haha. I feel good about my choice, but I haven’t chosen the leather-lined ones, sadly. I am truly hoping they will last a long time, and not the 1-2 years I’m reading about with the newly manufactured Hunters.

Le Chameau moved production? I did read a couple things about boots saying “Made in Morocco”, but in the same reviews comments that quality had not decreased. The ones I have my eye on do say they are imported from France, but so long as the quality is up to snuff, I’ll be a happy camper.

Anna

No, no – I meant Hunter’s moved production, sorry to be unclear. And yes, I do own some LCs, in addition to other sporting boots that I didn’t mention because I didn’t feel they’d be fashionable enough. It’s odd for me to talk about a brand like Le Chameau in a citywear context, but I’m completely impressed by that level of interest in quality.

And yes, Le Chameau do have a production facility in Morocco, but they have for ages as far as I know (and I only know because I read an article on it in some in-flight magazine a while back) and I doubt this would affect current quality.

Le Chameau have never let me down, but, then again, what I know are the hunting/outdoorsy boots, and if they do more fashion-oriented lines now, gah, you just never know.

Either way, fingers crossed for your boot search!

Sil

I have tretorns…..I can’t handle the lining in some of he the other ones….makes my feet too hot. Eventually I’ll get at least one more proper pair of wellies….just undecided still from where

Not really getting a toffee or anything other for that matter taste aside from creamy matcha. That’s not a bad taste, but since it’s supposed to be flavored it gets a reduced rating.

It smells similar to the caramel sample I received in my first order, so I was excited to get some of that smell translated into taste but it didn’t happen. This is the April sample so I’m guessing it’s basic grade matcha and delicate flavoring. May need to boost up the flavoring if I were to order it.

2 chasaku scoops dissolved in 175F water, then added 8oz heated light soy milk.

To be fair, I got this little packet in a trade, and I have another little unopened packet that I got straight from the company. Not knowing how old this trade one is, I’m going to completely reserve judgement until I try the one I know is new.

So, I made this in my usual way, blender, cold, milk, a little sweetener. It’s fine, but doesn’t taste much like toffee. If the other sample isn’t a big improvement, I can’t see myself ordering this one over caramel (which I love). It’s not bad though but if I didn’t know what flavor it was supposed to be, I don’t think I could tell by tasting it.

mj

I ordered a free sample of this from Red Leaf Tea (only have to pay shipping- woot!). I’ve never had a matcha powder blended into milk, so I am looking forward to trying it! I love drinking milk by itself anyway, so this sounds delicious.

Marzipan

I do it 1/2 t matcha, a bit of sugar, 8 oz milk and a couple of ice cubes in the blender.

CelebriTEA

Hmmm…I was thinking about ordering this flavor, but didnt…
I am not so crazy about caramel flavor…just OK to me..
I LOVE Eggnog though

I really, really appreciate the free monthly samples that Red Leaf Tea is offering. It’s giving me a chance to try things I might have otherwise put off or ignored completely.

Hmmm, this was delicious but it tasted very similar to the caramel matcha. It was creamier and maybe even a little sweeter, but a bit less buttery. It definitely had that burnt sugar caramel/toffee note going on, though. I didn’t really pick up any chocolate like others are mentioning, but with the sweetened vanilla almond milk I tried with it, I definitely got a delicious nutty toffee flavor.

While I really enjoyed this one, I think the caramel inches it out as the better dessert matcha for me (And the acai one is still my favorite overall).

Stephanie

I’ve been really loving the samples too! I always want to taste the flavors before I purchase them :)

boychik

so, if you want to get 3+1 free deal what would you pick? ;)

Stephanie

Me or moraiwe? I would definitely get Coconut- it is in my opinion the best matcha flavor of all! I’d probably also get the French Butter Cookie because I’ve been hearing how amazing it is, the Almond because it is very highly rated and I love nutty things, and maybe Cheesecake for the last one because it seems to go really well in fruit smoothies. What about you guys? :)

boychik

I only tried Cheesecake sample and i love it :)

moraiwe

Right now? I’m totally stocked on Caramel, so I’d probably hold off on that, but I’d replace Cheesecake with it normally.

So, I’d go Acai because it’s amazing, Cheesecake because Fiance likes it and I like it in smoothies, Coconut because I keep hearing everyone rave about it, and probably Tiramisu because it’s my favorite dessert ever and I really want to try it.

The Eggnog one is surprisingly good too, but I think I’d burn out of it fast when not over the holidays.

boychik

Coconut mmmm… i love it. everywhere. i’m so glad Chobani started making coconut yogurt. i need to visit RLT website;)

Cheri

Cheesecake is on sale on their site right now. I’m debating placing another order because I enjoyed the sample, but I’d like to up the flavor to a stronger level. And then I could get the English Toffee sample…

From MissB and I am definitely a matcha newbie!
I’ve always been interested in matcha and I figured that the mystery pack that she was doing was the perfect way to get just a small amount and IT’S GREAT.

Yes. Matcha newbie. Definitely don’t know how to prepare matcha and it was a total fail this morning but IT’S ALL GOOD I STILL ENJOYED IT SO I AM FINE.

This tea is great though. I could really smell it from the package and it was super nice and I definitely don’t know how to make this tea so I’m going to shut up now.

Stephanie

lol, how did you prepare it? Do you want/need some tips? :)

boychik

i need tips:) got my sample and afraid to try

jump62359

Oh my gosh, yes please!
So I totally don’t have a matcha bowl/whisk/scoop so I had to make do with what I had.
I read somewhere that if it’s your first time, you shouldn’t have more than 1/2 tsp because of caffeine and things and I was like.. Okay then. And I read that people had it with milk and I thought that was pretty cool and I totally had no idea how much milk to use though.
SO MY PROCESS (I give you permission to laugh. I seriously had no idea haha)
1/2 tsp of matcha through my strainer to get rid of clumps, straight into my mug.
Boiled a bit of milk and I let it sit to cool down
Poured 8oz(ish) into my mug as I stirred with a fork beause I like… Had nothing else.

Dude. Matcha is just… FREAKIN WEIRD, MAN.
But I’m going out in a couple weeks to buy some matcha essentials (mainly the whisk, possibly a bowl?) and actually figure out how to prepare it and things haha.

jump62359

Seriously, this entire morning my roommate and I were just laughing at each other because KNEW this wasn’t how it was supposed to be done! But it tasted decent at the end so at least it wasn’t a complete waste!

Stephanie

LOL…ok, well first off, I (and most people around here) tend to like flavored matchas with milk. For a hot latte I recommend microwaving the milk until it is warm (NOT hot or boiling, it’ll scald the matcha!) and then using a fork or small whisk if you have one to add 1/2 tsp of matcha and between 1-2tsp of sugar or honey depending on your tastes. An iced latte can be accomplished by either shaking the same amount of matcha, milk and sugar with 3 ice cubes in a mason jar or cocktail shaker, OR putting these things in the blender to make a frappe! Good luck and let me know how you like it as a latte :D

jump62359

Oh okay, so I kinda //sorta did it okay hahha.
How much milk do you usually put it? I’ll probably try again Tuesday morning :)

Stephanie

Yeah, you didn’t do it wrong really. I do 8oz milk for 1/2 tsp matcha and 1-2tsp sugar or honey :) Just made one myself, actually, with Rich Berry Pie flavor matcha :D
