A general note before the review: I usually read every single review posted and I keep scrolling down page after page until I get to one I have already read. Then as I scroll back I click “like” all the way. My likes are disappearing! I really am reading your reviews! Now on to the tea…

A few days ago I put this in the refrigerator to cold steep. After it had a few days in the fridge I added some simple syrup and started drinking it. I find that I like this one either completely unsweetened or sweetened more heavily than I usually do.

This is very good and fruity, and so refreshing after sitting outside in the heat with the mosquitos as hubby cuts and stacks firewood (will it ever be cool again?) and the chickens dust bathe and scratch about.

I am glad to find out how well it cold steeps! The color is nice and clear and the flavor of the tea AND the passion fruit comes through loud and clear.

Kittenna

Yeah, I’ve had issues with likes lately as well. :(

Nicole

Mine have been gone occasionally, too.

Fuzzy_Peachkin

The likes disappearing happens to me too sometimes!

Indigobloom

I just liked this note for the second time. Hmmmmm.

Iced tea of the day…….

I probably have enough left for one more pitcher. This one comes out crisp, slightly brisk, and with overtones of a tangy sweet fruit. It is excellent iced, but I like the Lychee better!

Usual iced method. No additions but ice!

ScottTeaMan

I love the sweetness of the Lychee tea.

This is a sample I got from Harney and Sons and thought I’d try it out this morning. I noticed the leaves have a musky-melon kind of smell, is that a characteristic of a passionfruit?

I steeped this for around 4 or 5 minutes and I admit I did put soymilk in it. :) The black tea base is nice here and the tea is lightly fruity, tropical, still kind of musky, mostly sweet but a tiny bit tart. It’s enjoyable enough but I don’t think I would need to keep any on hand but if someone offered me a cup, I would not turn it down. I think I might be more of a black currant or mango kinda gal. This would be really nice as an iced tea, however.

This one is a little odd to me as well, and it’s not a passionfruit thing, it’s more this tea I think. My favorite Passion Fruit black is thepuritea’s.

hum. is this a passion fruit taste? i can’t make up my mind…

the dry leaf gives me different values than does the steep: ripe apricot, raspberry and blueberry, each of them very distinctly. the steep is definitely fruity, but not along the same evolutionary tangent as the dry leaf.

the apricot remains… but differently than before.

my question is this: IS this an accurate passionfruit taste that i am not recognizing because of my lack of fresh familiarity?

i have had fresh passionfruit only a handful of times, but have always loved the flavour in juices and smoothies.

either way i think i’d like the flavour to be more robust. i will hold off on a numerical rating until i’ve tinkered…

And now for something completely different. This tea has been on my list to try for a while, as I love passion fruit, but I hadn’t ever gotten around to it for some reason. Now thanks to SimplyJenW, I have a sample! I really want to try this one cold steeped, but I wanted to try it hot first, so fortunately I’m finally getting around to it.

The dry leaf smells very passion fruity, in a very nice way. Maybe it’s because it’s not a common flavor for candy, but I feel like passion fruit flavor always seems more natural than some fruit flavors out there. Steeped, it retains that very juicy, fruity aroma, but it’s joined by Harney’s fruit-flavored tea base. It’s gotta be the same for all of them, right? It definitely seems like it. Anyway, the combination adds an interesting third dimension to the scent, but I can’t quite figure out what it reminds me of just now.

I’m surprised that I’m not getting a ton of passion fruit flavor out of this one. It’s definitely tart, but I don’t get a lot of that sweeter side of the passion fruit flavor (and here I’m not talking about acutal sweetness from the cup, but the not-actually-sweet flavor of sweet fruit, if that makes any sense). Even the black tea base isn’t what I was expecting; compared to the Lychee from Harney I had the other day, this base doesn’t seem to meld as well with the fruit. The cup as a whole is slightly astringent, oddly. So unexpected! Harney has some of my favorite teas, but then I’ll try one that seems like it should be perfect for me and it falls flat to my tastes (like all their Earl Greys!). C’est la vie. At this point my favorite Passion Fruit Black is thepuritea’s.

Dry: This is a bagged sample from my last Harney order (thanks H&S!). I can’t really see the dry leaf in the bag well, but it looks like a short black CTC type. Smells really fruity- tangy and super sweet. I am not sure if I would say passion fruit, but maybe stone + passion fruit blended together?

Steeped: Dark brown clear liquor. Smells like a nice black base with a less candy-sweet passion fruit aroma now as compared to the dry bag.

Taste: I like that the tea flavor is still coming through in the sips, though the passion fruit flavor has taken on a decidedly brisk/astringent edge. Still fruity and tangy as a brewed tea, but I’m thinking the 5 minutes listed on the label is too long for whatever base this is. This wouldn’t be a reorder for me, but if I had it again I’d try maybe 3 minutes and see how it goes. This one might also be best served iced. Glad I was able to try it though!

I tried a sample of this out of the “Considering Another Traveling Teabox” Teabox.

Like all Harney and Sons teas that I have tried this has a solid black tea base. It is nice and very fruity and tart. But all I can say is….nice. I don’t get anything super passion-fruity specific flavors. It is a nice generally sweet black tea. Kinda non-descript.

a bit sweet at first then a tiny bit tart (I didn’t add anything to it.) I don’t love passion fruit, but I like that this did not taste fake or overpowering, and that there was no hibiscus to be seen!

While I’m not sure I got so much Passionfruit from this, it was a really nice sweet fruity tea. Similar to what I had hoped Harney’s Apricot would be. I’m sad that I only had the one sample as I’m sure this would be absolutely amazing iced.

A good black tea when in the mood for one with a fruity nose. Nice body and a natural sweetness, too.
