Choconut Oolong

Hmmm? Why is this tea so unpopular?

I got it as a free sample with a David’s Tea order. It looked delicious so I immediately tried it. It has an awesome smell, just like a good hazelnut latte. The first sip was kinda weird, I’m not gonna lie. It doesn’t exactly tastes what its smell promises. I kept drinking it, trying to understand the tastes. I found out that the weird taste was probably coming from the cocoa husks, it indeed has an husk-y flavour. But then I found out a quick dark chocolate note and a sweet/addicting final. The more I was drinking, the more I could find the slight hazelnut taste. All of these associated combined in a rich and creamy tea, it’s not bad at all. At first I didn’t think I would buy again but now I kinda changed my mind; I would.

When I bought this tea, I had NO clue that there was licorice in it, and yeah, you could have guessed, I hate licorice. BUT, I must say that I didn’t taste too much licorice in mine and I actually do like it quite a lot! I read that the cooler it gets the less licorice you taste so I waited for it to get more on the warm side to take my first sip. I did put quite a bit of honey in it, so that might be why I didn’t taste too much licorice. I think that it keeps growing on me.

This is probably the oddest looking oolong I’ve ever seen in my day, but nonetheless, I had to try it.

Trying it turned into buying 100g of it. It has a very rich chocolate and hazelnut flavor, making it taste almost exactly like Nutella.

And as I am a Nutella fan, I am a Choconut Oolong fan. Great dessert tea & it also works great for keeping my hands warm and my mouth occupied for long nights at the hockey rink. (YAY TIMOLINOS!)

I think it’s brilliant.

Okay, dry leaf smells amazing.
I used two teaspoons for about 6 minutes (I like my tea stronger). Just plain, I was not too impressed… tastes like coffee and a bit like jumpy monkey which I HATE… wah. However, a slight creaminess at the end of each sip.
I NEEDED to add sugar which I never do… and it tastes much better! Yay! It seems the cane sugar brings out the chocolate-y notes. It may need to grow on me. I have 25gs but I don’t know if I will re-buy.

I try everything once and I have tried a lot of chocolate teas but have never found one that I’d buy a second time. Surprisingly, this one grows on me with each sip. At first, I was like, meh, but after a second cup, I kinda like it. I’ll likely drink this after dinner for a guilt-free treat. Choconut Oolong tastes like chocolate and hazelnuts with only a hit of oolong in the middle. A strong hazelnut and liquorice finish.

Very disappointing and upsetting cup because this is the tea I was the most excited for in the winter collection this year. I hate it. My first sip was licorice, with undertones in licorice and more licorice. It’s smooth which most likely comes from the chocolate, but there is no real taste of chocolate. No real taste of oolong. Just sadness as I take another sip and hope it doesn’t taste the same as the last :( (Okay, so I got a little emotional there, but still I wanted to love this tea so bad!)

Now this is a rich, flavourful tea. It’s also my first experience with oolong!

I added a bit of agave and hazelnut creamer because I wasn’t expecting this tea to have so much flavour all on its own.

As a result, I didn’t even taste the licorice flavour. It wasn’t noticeable to me at all (which is good, I’m not a huge licorice fan). But the chocolate and hazelnut clearly comes across while sipping. And in retrospect the agave wasn’t needed at all – this tea is sweet enough (and rich) by itself.

I’ve decided I love this tea. I know before I was hesitant on the liquorice, but I’ve decided I quite like it! I’m interested to try some other liquorice teas and see what I think. I do love the chocolate nut flavour of this tea. I am not sure if I’d like a less chocolaty liquorice tea! I’m considering going back in and stocking up before this tea leaves in the spring. Haha..tea leaves..

I was excited to try this one, as it presented a departure from my normal fruit-based oolongs. And it smelled amazing, and the first few sips tased really good. But then the flavour got really strong and really weird and I struggled to finish it. Maybe it was steeped for too long and/or had too many leaves, but this flavour sadly left a bad taste in my mouth.
