From DAVIDsTEA

Nice on ice

This summer, we decided to make the best iced tea ever. It had to be sweet and fruity, but a little bit tart. Familiar, yet unexpected. Delicious on its own, or with a splash of gin and a mint spring. In a word, perfect. And after searching high and low, we found a tea that fits the bill. A bright, flavourful blend of pear and apple with a hint of vanilla, it’ll quench your thirst but leave you wanting more. As if summer wasn’t already perfect enough…

Ingredients: Apple, pear, rose blossoms, vanilla beans.

I made this one the other night to stick in the fridge. Based on reviews I read, I sweetened it a bit before cooling it… and I think I ended up with a too-sweet tea. I think the next time I make this, I’m going to go ahead and leave it plain. It’s quite good, but definitely far from perfect.

This was a sample from my DT order in July. Had it iced with dinner a while ago. It was sweet and tasty as an iced tea, but didn’t really blow me away. Wasn’t really pear-y enough for me, but perhaps that’s a pear variety difference issue between Tasmania and Canada. I wouldn’t order again, but if I happened to be in a store and the iced tea $1 special was on, or it was TOTD, I wouldn’t knock back a cup.

I have been having the worst craving for pears today. They’re not necessarily the fresh ones either, but ones that are soaked in syrup.. Mmm. This tea is interesting! I do notice a soft pear flavor. It’s light and delicate. There is also a tiny bit of vanilla sweetness, but that’s towards the end of the sip. The strange thing is that there is an overwhelming tart flavor that makes this taste a bit like hot sour cream or cottage cheese & fruit. It sounds disgusting, but it’s truly what I taste. If the vanilla and pear could be more pronounced without that tart flavor, this tea would be lovely!

Made this iced using the brew hot and concentrated/dump on ice method. Added some agave because I had read that it was a bit tart. Tart doesn’t begin to describe this. This is straight up SOUR. Now, my fiance who loves sour candies found this tea pleasant and said he would drink it again. I took one gulp, started flapping my hands around and going “Baahhh NOPE!”
No rating because I couldn’t drink enough to analyze the flavour. That said if you like sour candies, this might work out for you.

This definitely was tart! Made it this morning (or last night, I get confused with the overnight shift :))When made hot it’s just so so. As other reviewers stated, it stand more out as an apple when it’s hot then as a pear. Probably would taste really good iced…

The dry tea smells exactly the way I hoped it would… Rich and sweet, like the perfect pear. The dry mix is chunky and heavy, so you don’t really get much bang for your buck with this tea. Twenty grams only gave me 2 – 3 cups worth.

The steeped tea has a very, very weak pear smell. The tea steeps to a lovely light yellow, but little bits and pieces sneak through even the finest infuser and end up at the bottom of my cup.

At first sip, the tea is tart. But with a few more sips, I’m able to hone in on the aftertaste – a lingering, true apple pear combination. I’m not really tasting nor smelling the vanilla beans that are included in the ingredients. The tea is fruity but sharp, true to the description… And a touch of sugar makes a world of difference. The tartness tones down, and it lets me focus on the part I like most – the fruity taste!

When iced (with sugar), the tea reminds me of Vitamin Water, oddly enough. Light and refreshing, mildly sweet. Additionally, I can finally taste the vanilla! Mission accomplished.

I have to be honest and say that this tea probably won’t be a repeat buy. It’s definitely best when served iced with sugar, but it still doesn’t compete with some of the other iced varieties I’ve tried. It’s a touch too tart for my liking, like a mixture of pear with granny smith apples.

I didn’t have quite enough of this one to make a 16oz cup like I usually make, so I just used all that I had and didn’t fill up my 16oz steeper all the way.

I don’t care for pears… I really don’t. I think most of the reason for that is the texture. Something about it isn’t right. I feel silly in some ways for saying it, but it’s just the way I feel.
I had read another review on here that this one didn’t taste like pears and so I thought I might as well dive into the sample I had.

This one smells lovely. I could have used it for an air freshener… but taste-wise, I didn’t care for it. I did taste the pears and I just… I don’t know… It’s not for me. I think I might have made it too strong or something, I don’t know. I could see how people would enjoy it, but I don’t. :(

I had this tea only once and I remember some kind of chemical taste to it, I didn’t like it for that reason…

Cold-steeped for about 14 hours… wow! This is a lot more tart than I was expecting. Then the vanilla really moves in for the aftertaste. Weird! I think… I think I like it? I’ll try it hot next and see how it works out. I was expecting the pear taste to be more like pear jellybeans, but I think it plays off the apple and becomes quite sharp.

Another great tea iced – I haven’t tried it hot, and I don’t think I will. I’ve had it iced in store several times and shared with the kidlet. My 10 yr old loves this one iced w/ a shot of agave.

Definitely going to pick some up on my next trip to Davids!
