From DAVIDsTEA

Now that’s fresh

When it comes to rooibos, some say green is the new red. Because while red rooibos tastes great, some say the new wave of unoxidized green rooibos is even better. What’s so special? The production process, which is similar to that of green tea, gives it a smooth, fresh taste. Here we’ve topped it up with the tropical flavours of papaya, apple, mango and peach. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified South African green and red rooibos, apple, mango, papaya. With artificial and natural flavouring*.

Hrm. I could have sworn that I reviewed on here the cup of this that I got as a free tea from DT on… February 29? Or perhaps I wasn’t yet a Steepster at that point.

Anyhow, I first tried this in last year’s advent calendar, and thought I liked it, then had a bad experience with it from the store (it made me gag a bit, so I went back and had them add sweetener, and I still was gagging, and ended up pouring it out). I picked up a small bag of it to try out myself to see what the deal really was.

The aroma is fruity… but it’s a sort of fruitiness that doesn’t really agree with me. Like another tea reminded me of Mango Diablo (which I dislike), this one does too. I’m starting to wonder if I dislike DT’s dried mango… (is there mango in Long Life Oolong too??)

The flavour is kind of sweet-ish, and with a strange taste, which must be the green rooibos. It’s not as medicinal as the red can be, but still, I’m not really enjoying it here. Yeaaaah, this is not my cup of tea, at all, and as it’s unlikely to be an infusion problem, I’m going to have to attempt to get rid of the remainder of this one (a cup’s worth) through other means. Blecchh.

This tea does the same thing to me, maybe you’re right about DT dried mango… I ditched what I had left this summer in a cold brew, and that unpleasant after taste was still there!

Kittenna

It’s funny, because I adore dried mango as a snack. But there’s something in this blend, Mango Diablo, and Long Life Oolong that makes my stomach roil. And it can’t be a base tea, because they’re green rooibos, green tea, and an oxidized oolong, respectively (but I would have suspected flavouring of some sort anyhow).

Buy the Stars

I had a similar experience with this; tried it in-store for their free tea give away on February 29th, loved it, then bought some of my own to brew and it was just awful every time. Sometimes added sugar or agave helped, but more often than not it was just awful, no matter how long I steeped it. I like Mango Diablo and some of their other teas with dried mango, so I really wonder what it is with this tea.

Kittenna

Bleh. Oh well, it doesn’t really hurt me to encounter a tea I dislike! There are plenty I love :D And thankfully I only have one cup’s worth left, so I’m not stuck with a ton of something I hate. To be fair, I actually seem to remember my first cup of Mango Diablo being not terrible, and the reason I disliked it was because it tasted like bell peppers… but since then, I’m associating it with a flavour that just makes my stomach churn…

Green and fruity sounds like it should have a green base rather than Rooibos (even if it is green Rooibos).

In raw form this tea has a mango and apple scent, very exotic and juicy. Also very sweet.

Once steeped this tea is orange in colour with the same tropical fruit (mango, papaya type) scent as it’s raw form.

Flavour is very Rooibos heavy and sweet with only half the fruitiness it promises from it’s scent. A little disappointing but oh well. Still enjoyable just a little too Rooibos and thick for my liking.

Fruit wise it’s peach/mango like in mild form with the sweetness from the Rooibos lightening it up a little.

Would not buy again.

A green rooibos that is better than this one is jardin sauvage by Lupicia. Really good iced too!

bookshark

I totally second the jardin sauvage rec! I didn’t find the rooibos too strong in that one.

omg, OMG, OMG!!! Oh My God!!

I waltzed into DAVIDs today with the intent of buying 10g of 10 teas that I am not 100% sure I will be crazy for right off, and this was the tea I purchased as my “to-go” tea and why I did not get 100g+ to take home with me I do not know! I have yet to meet a tea at DAVIDs that has papaya in it that I did not like.

This will be on my permanent shelf for when I want something cold to drink, that does not have the incredibly high sugars of juice.

Last sip…. Oooooo, my GAWD!

Jenn

Such a good tea! It was one of my first from DAVIDs and it’s one of my faveroites :)

MaddHatter

So good! If I was not running out of cupboard space I would have gone back for 100g today… lol

Erin Hurley

So much OMG here. Maybe next month. I’ve already spent my entire tea budget!

MaddHatter

It is really good, REALLY good, and since I am trying to break my Crystal Light habit (Bad me, BAD!) this is better than crystal light and twice as tasty.

Jenn

You are some kind of evil tea genius! The flavor combo totally makes sense and I can’t wait to mix some up.

MaddHatter

I think this one would work with Lemonade if I were to serve it to children, but no Crystal Light, I am trying to get away from “Chemicals in a bottle”

MaddHatter

Taryn, that’s odd. I was told they can’t do anything under 10g because the scale doesn’t register the price correctly. Hmmm, where ever you are getting your DAVIDs from is using poor customer service.

I finished up the last sachet of this at work a couple of days ago. I was sad to see it go, but I’m sure it will eventually come into my life again… just not anytime soon, since I just received my massive Teavana order.

Cold brewed a good amount of this in an extra large mason jar this morning, and I’m just drinking it now. This is delicious! It’s absolutely fruity, in a very “tropical” way. And the green rooibos makes it a very light and refreshing brew. It’s sweet enough to serve cold without any additives. I might have to pick up some more of this once summer rolls around.

I did a lot of cleaning today and was pretty exausted and dehydrated so this tea was perfect. (Also because I always forget to remove the strainer when I’m cleaning and this tea is really good even if I forget and let it steep for 5-10 or 30 minutes)

It’s my favorite ‘’refreshing tea’’.
It is super good, it is like drinking juice but without tasting really fake and sweet.

The green rooibos is really perfect and make me feel like i’m having a treat without feeling guilty because I know it is good for me ;).

The only thing is that it is not as good the second steep, the flavor is really weak.

It’s one of the tea I always have in my cupboard!

Yummeh!
I went in to David’s today to buy 4 teas, and this was my to-go iced tea. It tastes kind of like a fruity bubblegum. It’s super yummy. I love it. The end.

Until we meet again, G&F.

This tea both confuses and disappoints me.

I first tried it on February 29th, when David’s was having a free tea to go special for either this or North African Mint, and since I already had North African Mint I decided to try Green & Fruity, and I absolutely LOVED it. I got a cup and immediately texted my friend to come and get some of her own, and then she had some and loved it, and we were both very, very pleased and she agreed that maybe rooibos was a pretty good tea after all.

I was so happy that I bought a 100 gram tin of it a few days later and every subsequent time I brewed it was continually disappointed.

This tea is everything I technically should love: rooibos, mango, and papaya. I was even willing to overlook the ever-more-present artificial flavouring, but after trying for… half a year now, I think I’m going to have to lower my rating for this drastically.

I can’t get any flavour unless I sweeten it ridiculously with agave or honey, and though I don’t mind adding a little bit of sweetener these days, a tea has to be able to stand on its own for me. And if I have to use THIS much sweetener just to make something palatable, I don’t see the point of trying in the first place.

It leaves a dry, artificial taste in my mouth that actually leaves me feeling thirstier than before I drank anything. So once my current stash is out, I’m definitely not going to bother with this again.

I had this tea last night in a pot, and decided to have a few glasses of it with milk. I was thinking it would be gross, but it was far from it. I really like that I took a chance and tried something new. Cold, hot or with milk, Green and Fruity is a delightful tea. And perfect for the night so I am not super-cafinated before bed.

So delicious! The name says it all…this green roobios is indeed fruity. This is my ideal antioxidant packed daytime tea. You can actually see the bits of dried fruit in the tea, and I love the flavorful punch they pack. Yum!!!!!
