1st Day of Christmas 2021: Coconut Eggnog Black Tea!

Tea Description: We start this year’s countdown with a brand new tea: Coconut Eggnog!

In Puerto Rico, they make their eggnog using cream of coconut & coconut milk rather than heavy cream & they call it Coquito. This blend wasn’t inspired by coquito – it wasn’t a coquito that I had in mind when I crafted this tea – in fact, it wasn’t until I started writing this description/review of the tea that I learned of the existence of a coquito. My inspiration was simply to make something eggnog-y & then I decided that coconut would go nicely with eggnog.

So, call it Coquito, if you like – or you can just call it a Coconut Eggnog tea. This tea starts with a blend of organic black teas (Assam, Yunnan, Ceylon & Vietnamese black teas). I then added some vanilla bean & some eggnog essence (don’t worry, it’s vegan!), a bit of cinnamon & just a touch of nutmeg (eggnog needs nutmeg, in my opinion!) & a bunch of coconut.

This is LOVELY! Sweet, coconut-y deliciousness – so smooth & creamy & it tastes positively decadent. It’s silky on the palate. So, call it coquito, if you want – or you can just call it Coconut Eggnog – whatever you decide to call it, I think you’re gonna LOVE this tea!

organic ingredients: black teas, coconut, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla bean & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch before you measure – there’s some ingredients that may want to shift to the bottom of the pouch & you’ll want those ingredients in your measurement! Use 3g of leaf to 12oz of nearly boiling water (205°F) & steep for 3 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 10 minutes – the flavors need time to develop. The flavor intensifies as it cools a little.

This does not need additions. I drank it without sugar or milk & it was super creamy & sweet. I did try it with sugar & while that did enhance some of the spice notes a little – I quite enjoyed it without so – try it both ways to see which way you prefer it! I quite like it without any additions.

The TTB has arrived! So big, so many teas… no chance to try them all!
Tea #19

I will start with food pairing — a eggnog flavored yogurt.

Well, this was okay mostly. Coconut flavoured black tea. Rich and creamy coconut. Some spices there too. However again, not much of eggnog in my opinion. My yogurt was more flavourful in this way.

I wonder if it is because not being that fresh as others had it, or I had some teaspoons without all necessary ingredients, or what went “not that good”?

AJRimmer Advent Day 7

I brewed this one up at work between meetings yesterday and was initially concerned that I didn’t have milk on hand, since most eggnog teas I’ve tried were best with a splash of milk. But this one was lovely without any additions! The coconut flavor was spot-on, rich and creamy but not artificial. The eggnog flavor was more subtle, coming through at the end of the sip with just a hint of warming, nutmeg-forward spice. This might be my favorite sample of the calendar so far!

I only taste coconut and black tea. The coconut is fresh-tasting, not roasted, which I would have preferred. I don’t taste any eggnog, unfortunately. This one is just too one-note and boring for me. It doesn’t stand out from any other coconut tea, and coconut teas just aren’t something I love.

Never really got eggnog out of this, but I thought it was a tasty coconut black tea.

Yum! Digging the spicing of this tea, and the coconut adds a nice touch of creaminess. Also pleased with the base tea, which was malty and smooth.

Twelve Days of Tea 2021 – Day One

I was sipping on this during my exam today (yay, for online courses and exams at home). This is, hands down, one of the better “eggnog” teas I’ve had in a long time (RIP Butiki). I don’t really love eggnog on its own, and am still feeling rocky (eggnog is not generally what you want to smell when nauseous), so love that coconut comes out slightly more. It’s so incredibly smooth and decadent, without being cloying or hiding the base. It’s a real winner and improved my day exponentially.

I feel your pain with the online exams at home. Glad to hear this tea brightened your day!

Crowkettle

Thank you :)

Evol Ving Ness

Hope you are feeling much much better. And surviving this online experience are well as can be expected.

Crowkettle

In this scenario I’m grateful it’s online and open textbook. I got to write my exam in my PJ’s, with refillable tea, wrapped in blankets. My fever and neck/joint pain mostly subsided literally 20 minutes before the start time and it was nice not trying to get ready and commute with that extra hurdle. Small fortunes :P

Martin Bednář

Some exams were good that they were online, some would be better at place. Depends mostly on the teacher, IMO.

EmmaM

Talk about timing! That’s wonderful. I hope the rest of them go well too. Hopefully, you are on the mend now.

Evol Ving Ness

Small fortunes indeed.

Evol Ving Ness

Glad it worked out.

Crowkettle

The teacher and subject matter definitely makes a huge difference in the overall success! The lab portion kind of sucked because we missed out on “hands on”/kinesthetic learning; looking at grainy pictures of different rocks & minerals online and trying to ID them by clicking on random tabs is as exciting as it sounds :P

The First Tea of Christmas!

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this day – I’ve only tasted all of the teas in the 12 Teas of Christmas box once or twice (depending upon what was needed for testing) but I generally reserve a small amount for my pantry of each tea & I definitely did that for the 12 Teas because I want to do the 12 Teas of Christmas thing too. I don’t really need to conceal anything about each tea from myself. I’m not yet that far gone. Close – but not quite there yet.

This is one of four brand new teas in this year’s box. For a large part of the year and a half, I wasn’t able to work on coconut teas (product/ingredient/supply availability due to the pandemic and/or trade issues) so there was about a year there that I didn’t craft any coconut teas. I’ve made up for that (I think) in the last few months – but as I do love my coconut – you can count on me making more in the coming year.

I really enjoy this tea, it’s creamy with notes of coconut, eggnoggy custard & hints of vanilla. (A triple threat of creaminess.) It’s sweet & lovely. The black tea base is smooth yet strong enough to hold up to the strong flavor of coconut. Hints of cinnamon & nutmeg.

Certainly a nice way to kick off the 12 Teas of Christmas!

52Teas 12 Teas of Christmas: Day 1!

This month is flying by, and today I cracked open the 52Teas holiday box! I’ve been struggling with sleep on and off, and this morning I woke up around 4:45 and couldn’t fall back asleep. Eventually I got up, lit some candles, and brewed a cup of this little number while watching Murder, She Wrote. :D

It’s good! Really good. It’s also my first time trying 52Teas; I scored one of the holiday boxes after putting myself on the waitlist, and I’ve been biding my time before starting it (I want to open the 12th and final tea on Christmas day).

I’m really glad I indulged myself and ordered two advent calendars/holiday tea boxes this year. The anticipation alone is worth it! Last year’s holiday season was miserable thanks to the pandemic and my cancer diagnosis, so I’m trying to make the most of this year now that I’m done with treatment and can celebrate with my family again. Indulging myself with tea is helping me make this season extra special. :)

Anyway, I happened to be craving a coconutty black tea the other day and hey presto, here it is! I’m really impressed with the way the coconut brings a creaminess to the cup without being overwhelmingly flavored. There’s a nice custardy note to it, and the spices/flavors are reminiscent of eggnog without being overpowering. It’s really tasty! And after so many days of the B&B advent blends, which tend to focus more heavily on the flavorings than the tea base, it’s nice to finally have a blend where the black tea base seems to be integrated into the overall flavor profile.

A very auspicious beginning to the 52Teas holiday box, I’d say!

I’m sorry last year was not good for you! I hope this year will be bright and shining!
My cancer diagnosis was Dec. 21 ten years ago. It stinks to go through Christmas completely numb. I am glad you are still with us!

52Teas

I’m glad you’re both still with us! Definitely a reason to celebrate this season!

Kelmishka

10 years — congrats on reaching that milestone! I’m glad we’re both still here. :)

Adventaggedon Day 13: Tea 7/8

I love eggnog so much so I was super excited that this was the tea we were kicking off the 52Teas advent/12 days of tea with! The dry leaf aroma smelled great. Pretty eggy custard and vanilla type of nose to it with hints of coconut and a bit of spice. Steeped the focus was a lot more heavily on the coconut than the eggnog but some of those thicker sweet notes still came through and the undertone of warming spice was lovely.

In the future I’ll try this tea with milk, but it was nice to just enjoy it plain!

2021 advent-ure begins! I lost track of just which advent calendar/holiday boxes I got this year, so I’m going to be doing this for a while, I think. =P Starting with my favourite arteasan, 52teas. And off to a great start, too. I can’t find any trace of this blend on their site, so the Steepster entry’s incomplete, but I just had to record it. If it ever goes on sale (again?), I’m grabbing a whole bunch of it.

This blend is bold and delicious. The dry whiff is definitely coconut and definitely ‘nog. There’s nothing weird or fermenty in the steeped leaf fragrance, either—it’s pure dessert, through and through. And it tastes so good! I used my entire sample in one serving, steeped in hot water, which is really unfortunate. I’ve got some plant-based ‘nog in the fridge and I would’ve loved to boil this in that on the stove, like standard chai prep. I think that would’ve been amaaaazing.

Tiffany :)

This is one of my favorite companies but the first time I was doing the advent and this one was delicious (I made my whole packet into a cold brew 64 oz pitcher). :)

Nik

Oh, that sounds rather lovely, Tiffany!
