drank Ginger Lime by Teastore

I’m not a huge fan of herbal teas, but I drink them in the afternoon when I know I won’t be able to get to sleep after anything with more caffeine.

I’m not a huge fan of lime or ginger in general, unless it’s cooked into meals. This tea smelled absolutely delicious and I decided that if I didn’t like it, I could always turn it into iced tea. To my surprise, it was amazing. It’s very citrusy without being overpowering. The ginger is quite mild, and compliments the tea nicely. It’s definitely for those who enjoy fruity, floral teas.

I’d probably buy this again. It’s a great summer tea, and I’m sure it would taste just as nice on a hotter day.

I had recently abandoned my variable temperature kettle and lovely cast iron pot for more convenient teas, and boiling water on the stove. It was pure laziness.

I took a roadtrip to Tea Store in Ottawa and chose this one on the recommendation of a girl there. When I got home, I pulled out my trusty old friend and my special kettle, and I was mindblown. Despite my being sick and having no taste whatsoever, I had a strange sense of calm come over me. It was beautiful.

I am thankful that this oolong is re-steepable (is that even a word?) because it is quite expensive ($25 per 100g).

Tastes: Well, milky (obviously) and smooth. The first steep had a very high-quality black tea type quality, and the other steeps have had a high-quality green type qualities. Wonderful.

drank Kanpe Tea by DAVIDsTEA

I nearly bought this tea on the basis of the cause alone. That, and the aroma. It’s one of the strongest teas I’ve ever smelled.

I only bought 30g of this. I took this to work the other morning and brewed it right then and there. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood to enjoy it, but I had issues after the first few sips.

Sips 1-3: Nice and fruity, lots of cinnamon and banana hints.
Sips 4-6: Less fruit, still some notes of cinnamon, still delectable… Is that hibiscus?
Sips 7+: Hibiscus is overwhelming.

I finished the cup and tried again a few days later with similar results.

It definitely is a nice tea, but it isn’t something I can drink every day. I’m not sure I’d buy it again. I wish David’s would do more tea for a good cause.

drank Swampwater by DAVIDsTEA

It seems like this tea is a, “love it or hate it” kind of tea.

When David’s first introduced teas geared towards children, I got really excited. I was looking forward to child-friendly flavours and fancy teaware (which is adorable!). Swampwater piqued my interest just from it’s name and delicious smell. The clerk at the store insisted it was amazing. I’m a huge rooibos fan.

I brought it home and tried it. I was not expecting the colour. Something that looks like it was scooped out of a backyard pond. The flavour was underwhelming. I put it back in the cupboard and tried it again two months later. I added more leaves and upped the steeping time. Still no dice. There was still no flavour.

Cute teaware and stickers aside, I think I’ll stick to less gimmicky teas next time.

This is the second time I’d drank blueberry tea. I may be biased because the first (unbranded) tea was worth a score of 100+. When I found out David’s was carrying blueberry tea, I got really excited.

Initial thoughts: Lovely aroma— the smell of the loose tea fills the room. I didn’t have any issues with the stevia, and I normally hate any sort of sweetener. It was delicious. Nice and berry-intense with a lesser taste of black tea.

I drank this a few times through the summer and finished it happily. I’m not sure I’d go back for more because David’s has so many other teas that I’d much rather try.

drank Dragon Pearls by DAVIDsTEA

My go-to tea for sushi, or something to save for special occasions. Bought 25 grams of this. I wish I would have bought more. Delicious, beautiful, and aromatic. Can’t say enough good about this tea.

This tea requires a fairly low temperature and a quick steep time. Otherwise it becomes bitter and overbearing. I quite love my temperature-controlled kettle for this reason.

drank Caramel Spice by DAVIDsTEA

I loved the sweet notes of cinnamon and caramel. Seemed a little sharp and bitter at times, or maybe I didn’t steep it long enough. Wonderful on a fall weekend morning while reading. Not something I’d be buying lots of, but it fits certain occasions very nicely.

My foray into steeping happened with tin of Oreo cookie and salted chocolate caramel tea, back in college in 2009. I probably bought them for the novelty more than the taste— which sounds like a reason for many of my college-era purchases. The lovely little tea store was bought out by David’s Tea soon after I finished college. While I do enjoy getting tea from places other than malls, it’s difficult to find quality without going online. Most of my stash ends up being from there due to convenience.

I’m an early childhood educator. Tea is a big part of my daily life. I’ve yet to find anything as soothing and as energizing as it.

I’m on a big kick of blacks and herbals, especially straight ones.

90-100: Must get more of this. One sample isn’t enough.
80-89: Great! Would drink it again sometime
60-79: Decent, but probably won’t go back for more
40-59: Glad I tried, but one cup is enough
~40: No thanks. Never again!
