This tea is supposed to be a vanilla / caramel / pastry blend. And it is! Or at least, it smells like it, but it doesn’t taste like it. Maybe my bar for Mariage Freres is too high (there have been blends from them that I didn’t like, after all) but I did expect more from this tea.

It’s totally drinkable and lovely when it’s warm and hot, but it doesn’t seem to hold the flavour very well, unlike many of their other teas. And once it’s cold, it just tends to taste like water, which is pretty disappointing. I still recommend it and if it were the only thing on the menu I wouldn’t complain, but I wouldn’t purchase it again.

Lots of feelings for a tea that is somewhat middle-of-the-road, lol.

I asked for an Earl Grey when I was in the shop and this was what was recommended to me! I love this blend. It’s warm, sweet and creamy and has a sort of a dreamy quality to it. Still definitely an Earl Grey but it has a lovely body that I think some Earl Greys don’t always have.

My goal is to taste it in a tea latte with lots of milk, but so far it’s just perfectly lovely on its own and I’ve been enjoying it black. Super sweet without being cloying and just a pleasure to drink.

Flavors: Bergamot, Cream, Earl Grey, Milky, Vanilla

Every time I finally bite the bullet and get this tea and ship it all the way to my house, I unpack it and pour a cup and wonder why I order any other kind of tea ever. This tea is truly the best tea I’ve ever tried and any ‘dupe’ I’ve enjoyed, while reminiscent of it, doesn’t truly hold a candle to the original.

I love it so much! It’s so layered and spicy and so sweet and so nutty and has so much to recommend it. I drink it when I’m having a good day to celebrate the fact that I’m having a good day. I drink it when I’m having a bad day to console me. It is truly a tea you can smell and taste, it doesn’t just feel like hot water with flavourings in it. I appreciate it so much.

It is truly the tea that got me started drinking tea and I will always love it with the whole of my heart. <3

I bought this tea because I’m always looking for an afternoon tea that is black, but not super caffeinated. This was really lovely! It tastes better than some of the higher-end teas of the same ilk.

This is a black tea and a green tea blend, and sometimes the tea can feel very separate, but in this case, they suited each other very well and worked well. The tea is sweet, but has a nice caramel base with lots of toffee flavour. I like it just below boiling and brew it a little more like green tea though it’s also lovely (and still very flavourful) when it’s gone cold as well.

It’s sweet, sort of buttery, but not oily and just feels like a very sophisticated tea. I’ll have to come back for more.

This is one of my favourite teas from Murchie’s and has been a favourite for like eight years, despite the fact that I only bought it once before. When you open the bag, it smells like maple syrup. And not like, table syrup, but actual maple syrup, which is just lovely.

There are apparently fruit notes in this tea, though I don’t taste them. It does feel a little acidic at times, but that feels more like the the tannins from the tea than any fruit flavour that might pop up. It has a lovely flavour when it’s hot but it does start to taste more like water as it cools.

Still, really warm and buttery and comforting. I enjoy it a lot!

This full-bodied tea is a foundation for so many builder’s brews all around the world. It’s strong, but still has plenty of flavour and isn’t over-powering, like some black tea bag-type teas. Brewed too long it can be bitter and astringent, brewed just right it can be lovely and really wakes me up in the morning.

What I like about it is that the strong body of the tea means you can pretty much flavour it however you like and it will still taste like Yorkshire tea.

A trustworthy tea and a totally dependable brand.

I’ve had a lot of honey flavoured teas in my time in the world, and, sadly, this one is not one of the best I’ve had. It’s perfectly mid and acceptable but I often forget what flavour it is halfway through drinking it.

The leaves are a beautiful ceylon-brown and then there’s lovely yellow flowers and chamomile to make it a very attractive blend. The flavour of it is of a very sweet, floral honey, but I am missing the smoothness and the body of the honey in the tea.

This tea smells so lovely out of the tin. It does have a very strong smell, but it’s a burnt sugar, caramel, nutty smell that I love. It’s made with Irish Breakfast so it’s a full-bodied black tea, malty taste which means it is possible to oversteep it.

But! It’s lovely. It’s sweet, warm and has a lovely almond flavour. It feels like burnt butter or burnt sugar, the crispy bottom of a cinnamon roll, that sort of thing. I enjoy it because the sweetness has a real depth and taste to it, it’s not just blindingly sweet. It’s lovely in autumn, but also perfect for any time of year.

When I purchase tea, I generally do so in one big lot, with a wide variety to cover all my bases. So, there’s usually a breakfast tea, an earl grey, a smokey tea, an afternoon sort of tea and then a couple of vanilla/almond/marzipan/maple teas. I bought this tea to be my afternoon tea and replace the Wild Cherry blend this company also sells, which, is fine and drinkable but not great.

So I think the biggest thing with this tea is it is a black and green blend. Looking at it in the tin, I find that’s so easy to forget, because it looks like a majority of black tea. I’ve brewed it once before and it was sweet, delicate and smooth. You can definitely taste the blackberry, there’s a sharpness and a sort of soft vegetal-ness that tastes like blackberry leaves, but I don’t particularly taste the maple. It is sweet, but from what, I don’t know.

It is possible to oversteep this tea though, which is what I did today and I found it a little bitter, but once I added some cooler water it was totally salvageable. So, brewed well, this tastes delicate and light and green, brewed too hot, it understandably tastes like grass.

But an enjoyable tea and lovely as it cools!

I am not a huge fan of earl grey tea (unless it’s a latte) or unless it has other flavourings (lavender, lemon) but was intriguied to try this one. It’s beautiful! It’s quite astringent without being flat, which I like in an earl grey. The grapefruit comes forward right away, then there’s the bergamot flavour, but then there’s a subtle sweetness that I think is mandarin after that.

So it’s quite layered! I drink it black but I’m not sure how it would do in a latte, but I would be curious. A welcome edition to my cupboard and something I would love to share with my mum, who loves an earl grey and who often complains you can only smell tea flavours, not actually taste them.
