74 Tasting Notes
I stopped in at David’s while at the mall today, and decided to try a cup of this because it sounded great. The smell of the dry leaves is amazing. I do enjoy the combination of chocolate and rosebuds.
Upon first sip, I loved the combination. The chocolate is obvious and quite sweet without making it syrupy or tasting terribly artificial. I thought the combination of the sweet chocolate with the powerful floral taste was interesting. As the cup cooled, the taste became a bit overwhelmingly floral for my liking. Not so bad that I didn’t enjoy it, but I could have done with slightly less rosebud.
Overall, I thought it was enjoyable, but not one that I would bother to restock. I think that the novelty would wear off quite quickly for me.

Edit: I’m not sure what’s going on with this post, but the small paragraph I wrote shows up multiple times and can’t be edited for some reason. My apologies. There is some kind of glitch.
Ehh.. Not my favourite. This is the first cup in a very long time that I couldn’t finish.
Ehh.. Not my favourite. This is the first cup in a very long time that I couldn’t finish.I’m not sure if it’s the ginger that I find too strong (it definitely burns on the tongue, but I like the Super Ginger, so I’m not sure what’s going on here), or that I feel like it’s missing some other component to balance all of that ginger. I found the base tea to have an almost salty taste to it. I’ve had other pu-erh blends that I’ve enjoyed, so although I’m inexperienced I don’t think it’s a general pu-erh thing I don’t like. Something about this is just off to me. Maybe I’d like it better if I used some form of sweetener or blended it with something sweeter. I do tend to enjoy a bit of sweetness in otherwise spicy teas.

Another of my Tea of the Month picks.
I actually really like this one. I’m quite visual when it comes to tea, so the peachy pink colour of this tea in my clear mug makes me very happy. The oolong itself doesn’t blow me away, but this tea sits nicely in what I’d consider my fruity tea niche. It’s got an obvious floral and citrus taste to it without being overwhelmingly tart. It’s also subtle enough to bring out the oolong base. I think it’s pretty well balanced. Maybe the reason I don’t find this either tart or bitter the way some others have is because I tend to use a relatively short steep time.
Whatever the reason, I do enjoy it and will miss it when it’s gone. It might not be an all-time favourite that I’d consider essential enough to restock before my big move in April, but I definitely enjoy this one enough to drink it all day while I try to not bore myself to death with studying.

A friend very generously brought me a bag of this from the little tea store in Canmore, where he lives. It’s absolutely delightful. I’ve never tasted a blend that contains both black tea and rooibos before, but it works amazingly well. The subtle fruitiness adds just the right amount of sweetness to get me completely hooked on this tea. The base tea is high quality, and the fruit flavour is natural and in no way overwhelming. It’s the perfect balance between the comforting and subtle black teas I’ve been so in love with all winter and the juicy, fruity blends I tend to fall for every summer. This was a new and wonderful experience that I would recommend 100%.

Another Tea of the Month pick.
I really like peach. I find it very rare that I actually dislike a peach-based herbal tea, simply because I find it both tasty and calming. This one is no exception. Today I’m feeling agitated and somewhat overwhelmed. Based on the name alone, I decided that this one might help me to calm down a bit and look on the bright side. It did what I hoped it would.
I can’t speak to the objective quality of the ingredients in this, because my attachment to subtly sweet, peachy herbal teas is an emotional one. I can tell you that I really like this tea on days where everything sucks and I just want to hide under a blanket with my Netflix.

Thanks a lot to YUNOMI for the free sample! It came beautifully packaged with a pretty postcard from the company.
As for the tea, I really enjoyed it. The more I steep it, the more I like it, actually. 10g might not seem like a large sample, but at three steeps and counting I’m really getting the most out of this tea. To my knowledge, this is the first straight sencha I’ve tried, so although I can’t offer the most educated opinion, I really enjoyed the experience. The first steep was more astringent than I’m used to, but from then on it mellowed out immediately. I’d definitely recommend a short steep time, as it’s quite bold. Overall, this one is very enjoyable. The customer service provided by the company is excellent as well.

I haven’t had a cup of this one on its own in quite some time. Will have to brew some in iced form later today.
Right now this is another of my favourite guayusa-buddies. When blended in, it adds a subtle but very nice bit of sweetness to my boring caffeine-vehicle of choice. I need that today. Biochemistry is kicking my butt. This tea is also delightful when blended with straight green tea. I find it works wonderfully with the Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls, which give it a bit more of a fresh taste to balance out the sweet strawberries.
This tea has a nice sweetness without being overwhelmingly sugary. It also manages to be pleasantly citrusy without needing a bunch of hibiscus. Overall, I really like it.

I don’t have many opinions about this one on its own. It’s grassy and kind of boring-tasting, which is exactly what I need it to be. I mainly use this one for blending with different herbal teas on days when I need a caffeine boost but don’t think my stomach can handle coffee. Today is one of those days. I’m on my third cup already.
I give this one a high rating because it serves a great purpose for me. The taste on its own is nothing I’d get super excited about, but it serves as an excellent base for my tea experiments. It helps me get through bad days with a smile. It also lacks the strong aftertaste of the mate teas I used to drink under these circumstances, so it’s one I’ll definitely restock. Good stuff.

I like this one. Normally it’s one that I would choose to make iced during the summer months, but today I’m drinking it hot. I even blended it with a bit of straight guayusa to give me the kick in the pants I need to study. I think I’ll need more than one cup, though. It’s one of those days.
I find this tea pleasantly fruity without being overwhelmingly tart. A lot of citrus herbal teas throw in a bunch of hibiscus to add a kick, but this one seems gentle in comparison. It has just the right amount of lavender to balance the fruit. It’s also beautiful to look at. I only have a bit more of this leaf, and it’s one I’ll miss when it’s gone. Oh well. Plenty of other teas to finish before the Big Move in April.
