661 Tasting Notes
Thank you Nina’s Paris for this free sample. I really enjoyed this tea. Dry it smelled delicious. I think it was the strawberry I was picking up. Brewed up, I could taste rooibos, strawberry & vanilla notes. I didn’t really pick up the grapefruit but maybe because it was brewed with boiling water. I wonder if the grapefruit would come through if it was brewed cold. There was only enough for one cup so I guess I won’t find out.
Flavors: Kalamata Olive, Strawberry, Vanilla
Preparation
Tried this one out today. After a quick rinse did a 10 sec steep and added a bit more for the next steeps. I could definitely smell hay and honey from this tea. I could taste mushroomy notes with a honey sweetness and it didn’t fade much with each infusion. It was a pleasant cup but after 4 infusions I was tired of the tea and wanted a change. I put the leaves aside to see if I can do a steep on them tomorrow.
Flavors: Hay, Honey, Mushroom
Preparation
I had this tea two days ago and never left a review. I definitely picked up the chocolate notes in the dry and brewed. It did have that slightly smokey pu-erh taste. Somehow nothing stood out with the taste but I’m still new to pu-erh teas. I think this tea deserves another chance before I rate it as I was pretty distracted on the day I had it and never noticed if there was any change in my cha qi either.
Preparation
When I opened my sample pack of this tea and smelled it : HEAVEN. I don’t know really how to describe the scent. It’s like rich sweet nutty grass in a forest. Brewed it still has the same scent but sweet buttery, nutty smoothness . It goes perfectly with the song playing on my Itunes right now: Lovers – from the House of Flying Daggers soundtrack.
This is one tea I will definitely have to have once my samples are gone.
Preparation
I love it when tea companies capture a fruit flavour so well making it seem it just naturally was part of the tea. That is so with the peach flavour in this tea. It really does taste like peaches and even though it’s the prominent flavour, it doesn’t seem to overpower anything. The jasmine notes were very subtle and hard to pick up. I see someone here solved that problem by combining straight jasmine pearls with these one. I’ll have to try that on my other sample. The green tea pearls were on the astringent side with a slight bitter edge near the bottom of the cup.
Preparation
Dexter3657 sent this sample my way so I’d have another sheng to try. I wonder why there’s only one review on here for this tea…
I brewed it up, quick rinse and then 20 sec. It was strange but I didn’t taste much of anything (like Sil in her review). I tried another infusion but still wasn’t getting anything. By the 4th infusion, I figured I would use up the other part of the sample and do gong fu brewing like on the Tao Tea leaf website. I thought I must be doing something wrong. On the website they say this tea has complex flavour with hints of chocolate , vanilla and the tartness of raspberries and a bit of white wine. It sounds wonderful. Maybe i don’t have a refined palate for tasting but to me all I got was a weak pu-er earthy flavour with a bit of bitterness. I suppose there MIGHT have been a hint of chocolate. Even doing gong fu brewing didn’t bring out all those flavours for me. I’m puzzled that a tea described sounding so wonderful was nothing like that for me.
Glad I got the chance to try it though. Thanks Dexter3657!
Preparation
I had this tea yesterday. I took it in my Timolino. Don’t know why I made that crazy decision since the Timolino is not the best thing to brew and drink tea in. I usually stick to mildly flavoured teas that I’ve had before. I had never had this one before. It was a sample from Tao Tea Leaf. Even from my Timolino I could tell this was an excellent tea: buttery , mild vegetal. I don’t think it’s from 2014 crop but it’s still good. Wish I had brewed this up properly as it’s all gone now but I still enjoyed it for the day.
Preparation
I still have some Design A Tea samples in my cabinet untried! So this morning pulled out Chestnut Raspberry Oolong. Not bad! Definitely the chestnut flavour is prominent followed by lighter notes of raspberry. I’m not getting much of the oolong base because the chestnut is pretty strong but overall it’s still a pretty decent cup. It is after all my own weird combo. Definitely nice to try but not a winner for buying more. Of course Design a Tea makes it so easy to try out many different combos.
Preparation
This is one of the samples i got from my Teavivre order. It’s very similiar to Tealux’s strawberry oolong. I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.
It has a very subtle strawberry flavour that just goes perfectly with the nutty buttery oolong. The strawberry flavour becomes a little stronger as the tea cools but nothing overdone. It goes perfectly in my fine bone strawberry coloured china cup I bought today at the flea market. I am so spoiled.
