This is my first guayusa! :) Got this as a sample from Butiki.

(A little bit scared as I sip it though to be honest. I tend to be super caffeine sensitive, so I’ll find out if guayusa makes me crawl up the walls from this or not… haha … ha)

Moving along, the smell of the leaves were very dreamy. Like a lemon sucker! :) The good kind of lemon sucker, where it’s still kind of tart, not the ones where they taste kind of soapy. GOOD lemon candies tend to be my favorite of candies, and this is exactly what the leaves smell like.

The tea itself is not disappointing! :D It has that same ‘best lemon candy ever’ taste to it, with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. There’s something about it that feels really refreshing too, almost like you popped a mint.

The lemon taste in this is incredible; as of this writing — though I doubt this can be topped — this has the best lemon taste in any tea I’ve ever tried.

All in all, I love it! Assuming the caffeine levels don’t make me loopy, this will definitely be something to keep on hand. :)

EDIT Hooray! I’m fine! The caffeine levels didn’t bother me at all! This will now be a cupboard staple :D

I don’t remember what specifically it is but I remember that there is component of the guayusa that evens out the caffeine over an extended time instead of causing jitters and a crash. Glad you are enjoying the flavor.

Chizakura

Ah I see, that makes sense. :) I think to be on the safe side I’ll keep it as a morning tea, and not drink it in the afternoons. I’ve goofed myself up sleep wise with white tea, and it’s just awful tossing and turning all night wondering why sleep won’t come.

I’m super excited to try out a few more of the guayusas! :) I thought I’d grab some the Killer’s Vanilla and Tangerine Creamsicle along with this one :D

Is this one your favorite of your guayusa blends?

Butiki Teas

Chizakura- Definitely best to keep this a morning drink. I’ve made the mistake of having a few cups very late and then not been able to fall asleep for hours. This is my absolute favorite of the guayusas. The cider is a close 2nd followed by Winter Fire and The Killer’s Vanilla. We will be adding another guayusa in the next few months. :)

Hello! I’m a 24 year old Canadian, currently working at Starbucks while I figure out what I want to do with myself in life, haha.

Like most everyone else, I grew up with teabags, and then discovered the grass really WAS greener on the other side with loose leaf. Nowadays I drink nearly exclusively loose, but will drink a bagged tea if I don’t care what I’m having.

My favorite kind of tea is black, and unflavored, although I do enjoy an occasional dessert black. I like whites second best. I’ve recently been dipping my toes into honeybush tisanes, greens and oolongs.

My favorite vendors are Butiki Teas and Verdant Teas. Both have fantastic teas, above and beyond customer service (especially Butiki), and fair prices for their very high quality teas. I can’t recommend them enough.

Purely for tasting notes references, I don’t use any additives for my teas. Older tasting notes for blacks was with milk+sugar, and then with just milk. Whites, oolongs, greens and herbals are all drunk straight unless otherwise specified in the notes.
