I enjoy this tea ALMOST as much as Stormy Night. I love the spiciness of it that pairs so well with the chocolate and earthy black tea flavours. A few years ago, before it was made a year-round selection by David’s, I would stock up on it during winter to try and make it to the next holiday season. Even then, I would finish it up early and have to wait for what seemed like forever for it to come out again. So there’s always been this lovely wintery excitement to this one for me. David’s page recommends spicing it up further with a shot of cinnamon whiskey. This intrigues me but since I usually just drink the black teas in the morning I guess I’ll have to continue to wonder about that. Cinnamon whiskey for breakfast might be a bit much.

Got this as a sample from a recent David’s order. It’s an interesting mixture of flavours. There’s spearmint, apple and gooseberries mixed with floral notes of marigold, safflower and rose. It’s described as citrusy and when I first opened the package, it definitely had a prominent orange-like aroma. There’s a nice tartness that comes from the gooseberries and floral ingredients. It’s not overly minty but it does have a nice hint of it. All in all, I enjoyed the cup. Not sure that I would buy a full bag of it though. Maybe if it was on sale. In general, sweeter trumps tangy for me.

This is a decent autumn tea. It reminds me of a freshly baked pumpkin pie with hints of cinnamon and clove flavours. I prefer my chai teas more spicy than this one though and found the caramel and pumpkin candy sweetness were almost masking the chai flavour (although it does get spicier as it cools). I preferred the spiced pumpkin (herbal) from David’s and the pumpkin spice (black) I had from Murchie’s over this one. Won’t have trouble finishing it, but I guess I was hoping for a better balance of the chai and pumpkin flavours.

My absolute favourite that I’ve had over the years since I got into the whole tea loving experience. Was quite sad when it was discontinued at David’s! When I got the email this month that they were “raising it from the dead” for Halloween I was so excited. I immediately ordered 250 grams of it online but now that it’s out of stock again, I’m regretting not ordering more. I’ll just have to slow down and savour what I bought over the next year. Hopefully they raise it again for next Halloween or consider relisting it.

So why do I like it sooo much? I think it’s the complexity, there’s so much going on in it. With chocolate, vanilla, coconut, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, chipotle and ancho chilli ingredients there’s a lot of different flavour accents. Even the appearance of it is awesome. It has a deep amber colour brewed that has a really nice sheen on the surface and the cinnamon and spices are suspended and happily swimming throughout the liquid. In the bag dried, it smells completely decadent with prominent chocolate, vanilla and coconut aromas. Once brewed, the cinnamon and spice aromas come out wonderfully. I love all the different distinct flavours as well as how they mingle and merge.

Only 1 tea receives a score of 100 from me. This is the one.

Nice! Glad you could benefit for them bringing it back. It’s like me with luscious watermelon in the summer time :)

CelticBrew

Lol nice. It would be so much simpler if we loved things in their permanent collection the same way eh?

Ugh yes. On one hand I understand they keep rotations going to pique interest at certain points and to make sure they are making money, but it certainly can lead to frustrated customers. I know I’ve been in DAVIDs and I’ve seen occasional customers asking about getting a tea from 2 years ago, and it turns them off for sure.

A nicely comforting tea with no caffeine so it makes a great after-dinner treat. The ingredients include whipped cream, pumpkin pie, maple almond flavouring in addition to maple crystals, cocoa shells and pumpkin pieces. So it has a lot going on in it. The pumpkin spice comes out very prominently brewed and there’s a creaminess and pastry-like flourish. The maple flavour is excellent, I was worried it might be over the top because the aroma is so strong dried (it almost smells like a maple liqueur dried). But a lot more of the other flavours mingle and come out when brewed in this lovely autumn tea.

Really liked this one. It smells wonderful and looks awesome with the big popcorn puffs. The apple and maple really work well with the buttery popcorn flavour. The green tea blends well with the sweet and savoury notes. Reminds me of a lovely fall kettle corn. It smelled so good in the store that I bought a tin of it. Glad I did now. Can be a bit hard to get the right mixture of ingredients. The popcorn is quite bulky. Had to dig my spoon around to make sure I got a good amount of everything.

I’ve had this a few times now and figured today was the day for reviewing it. It’s quickly become a new favourite of mine. I’m a bit of a peanut butter junkie, I’ll admit it. I don’t keep the stuff in the house because I can literally eat it out of the jar with a spoon. If there’s ever any choice to be made with peanut butter in it, that’s the one for me. So when I heard about this tea in David’s Fall collection I knew I would be trying it. I can say that my peanut butter cravings are nicely met with this tea. There’s a wonderful creaminess to the flavour that tastes decadently rich and chocolatey. The nut base is almond instead of peanut but that doesn’t detract from it in any way. Only one tea receives a 100 from me (Stormy Night by David’s Tea), but this one comes close. I liked it enough to order 250 grams for the winter.

There’s something rather medicinal about this tea with all of the spicy ginger goodness to it. I found it very soothing on the throat and a nice clearing sensation to the sinuses even though I don’t have a cold or any real stuffiness. I’ve been having it towards the end of my day throughout this week and it has an excellent settling sensation to the body. Quite pleasant indeed.

Oh, I love this one. I don’t have it in my collection though because I have two herbal spice teas and I’m trying to save money :(

CelticBrew

I hear you! Tea can be quite the expensive hobby.

Not my first time enjoying this, but it is my first review for it. The tea smells amazing in the package, it has a creamy and nutty aroma that wraps itself around you in such an inviting and comforting way. Brewed up, it has a lovely green tea flavour mediated with nutty tastes of almond and walnut. The coconut and brittle brings a really nice creaminess . I don’t really taste the pineapple in it, but there is supposed to be some in there too.

This tea really works for me. The toffee and chocolate aromas are strong but the flavour is nicely blended with the saltiness you’d expect from the name. Definitely has the tastes of a lovely treat without the guilt. Very enjoyable.

Bio

I’m a mid-thirties tea loving guy on the West Coast of Canada. Only really got into tea in the last 6 years largely because my exposure to tea was always bagged rather than loose before that. It wasn’t long for me to become hooked with loose leaf tea though.

My favourites are fruity black teas, chocolate and dessert teas and fruit/nut blends.

Other interests include films, meditation, reading, writing and computer games.

Working on living healthier and sweet teas are a nice alternative to full desserts and other sugary snacks and drinks for me.

I only rate teas once and use the following spectrum:
100 – Only one tea receive this from me. It’s that good.
95 – Only three teas receive this from me. They are that good.
90-94 – These are top rated teas for me but fall just short of my top 4 or ultimate tier teas.
80-89 – Very pleasant, enjoyable. Would definitely purchase again but wouldn’t necessarily rush out for it.
70-79 – Decent teas. They had their charm while they lasted but I’m undecided about buying them again.
60-69 – Alright teas. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing amazing either. Unless it’s on sale, I won’t buy again.
50-59 – Meh, I can take or leave this. There’s something about it that borders on dislike for me.
40-49 – Sorry this one’s just not for me.
30-39 – Definitely not for me. Wasn’t able to finish it.
0-29 – How dare they call this “tea”.
