drank Black Currant by Harney & Sons

I bought four ounces of this and ended up swapping or giving away all but two cups’ worth. I wish I’d bought a sample size, but I usually get bigger sizes in order to get the best deal per ounce. Then I have so much tea to work through, it’s silly. I could tell as soon as I smelled the dry leaf that this wouldn’t really be my sort of thing, so I procrastinated trying it. Now, here I go! The berry flavoring they use is just odd to me. I guess it tastes good, but at the same time, it’s so strange. I can’t taste the black tea, only the strange flavoring. I do kind of like this, but I’m not sad that this is the end of the tin. I’m drinking a second steep of it cold right now, and I may prefer it cold.

I have an issue with Harney’s berry flavors too. They always taste chalky to me and remind me of mixed berry Tums… XD

I really wish we could know what was actually in the artificial or natural flavorings used in teas, or at least the specific brands used by certain companies… I have issues with certain flavorings sometimes, and other times, no issues at all. I’d love to try to pinpoint if there is a common denominator, like if all the flavorings I have a problem with contain a specific ingredient in them, but since they don’t have to give any more information than “artificial flavor” or “natural flavor” I’ll never know if it’s, say, a specific chemical that gives me an off-taste or whatnot. The way you describe these ones as chalky, I’ve had certain flavorings taste metallic and coating.

Chalky berry Tums seems pretty accurate! Yeah, it would be really helpful to know specifically what ingredients are the strange ones. Luckily, out of the many flavored teas I’ve tried, there haven’t been toooo many bad ones.

I’m an event planner who always has multiple mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, listening to podcasts, and playing with my troublesome kitties.

Favorite flavors: dessert flavors, nutty, melon, mint, strawberry, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free or black. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
