Thanks Sil for this sample.

Drinking this at work today. It’s really light, both in color and flavor. Doesn’t look like a black tea to me, it’s the color of apple juice. Not sure if the color is influencing the taste, but I think it tastes light and fruity too.
It’s not so much that I dislike this, it’s more that it’s not what I expect out of a black tea.

yeah, first flush darjeelings are kind of like a cross between green and black tea to me.

Dexter

Always happy to try new teas, but this one is not for me. I’ve pretty much given up on Darjeelings. Don’t think they are my favorite blacks….

ifjuly

you’re certainly not alone, seems a very common take on Steepster. and you definitely know you’ve given them a fair shake! helps to cross stuff off the endless list, i think.

Sil

i’ve had a couple darjeelings that were like OMG WOW but 90% of them are disappointing because i want them to be black teas…which they really aren’t.

Dexter

And that’s fine – them not really being black teas (that hurts my head but will accept the theory), but I want them to be black, because I LIKE black teas. If they are sort of a green/black cross, and green isn’t my favorite – I’m ok with crossing them off the list and sticking to things that are more in my favorite profile. :))

ifjuly

yeah, i tend to think of first flushes much like the greener end of the spectrum of oolongs (even though each’s unusual lightness is for different reasons). i’ve noticed both are divisive, heh.

Once in awhile I find one that is enjoyable enough as an afternoon kind of thing, but not enjoyable enough to purchase.

I’ve been waiting to try this one and the other darjeeling that Alice sent me because one is first flush and the other is second. I haven’t had an opportunity to try darjeelings like that side by side. they’re not the same darjeeling but i figured it was better than nothing :)

This has a lightly floral aroma as well as taste. It’s not overly floral but it’s there. I quite like this one – i think it helps that i’ve figured out how to brew darjeelings from the darjeeling day i had a while back :)

This is also a really fresh sort of tea. no astringency…a delight!

I started a new job this week and my workplace doesn’t have a kettle (what?!) so I’ve not been drinking too much tea, mostly coffee. I did an overnight cold brew of this though and it is delicious, like sunshine in a cup.

I’d never cold brewed a darjeeling before but it worked really well. I left it a bit longer than I usually would because I slept in and it is really interesting to get the flavour of a darjeeling that strong without the astringency.

SFTGFOP

Do you know what year the Darjeeling is from? Good luck and congratulations on your new job.

alice

I think it is last years but I can’t remember. The tea centre cycles their Darjeeling offerings seasonally so what is available is generally reasonably fresh.

SFTGFOP

That’s good. I always drank their tea in the shop (In the CBD) in Sydney. I really wished I had just bought their tea and drunk it at home!
