From Taiwan Tea Crafts

GABA Tea is one of a rare bread of teas that was initially developed, not only for its resulting drinking enjoyment, but rather for its purported health benefits. If you are not familiar with this aspect, check out the info tab below. Now that this is said, we need to admit that the best thing about GABA tea is that it is wonderfully good in the cup! This tea is one of the most accessible, easy drinking teas we propose. The special, oxygen-deprived environment that increases the content of GABA while oxidising the leaves, also smoothes out the tannins leaving a crisp, slightly tart, but never bitter feeling in the mouth. The nose is all fruit, field berries to be more precise. As soon as hot water is poured on the leaves, a wonderfully inviting aroma of wild strawberries jam and ground cherries invites us to taste the cup. Generous and refreshing, GABA tea not only makes a beautiful hot beverage, it is fantastic as a refreshing iced tea! This Lot 505 is made by the same grower as our previous lots, but this spring we requested a mixed leaf assemblage of lively Si Ji Chun and creamy Jin Xuan cultivars in the making. With the exuberant qualities of this spring’s crops, this tea is ripe with wild field berry notes and distinctive wild strawberry aroma. Yet again, our best Gaba so far!

Dry leaf – FRUIT, NUT: variety of dried fruit (mango, strawberry, cranberry), Mexican hot chocolate, peanut shell, roasted peanut

Smell – SWEET: scented candle wax, dried strawberries, yams, carob

Taste – FRUIT, ROASTED SWEET: yam, carob, roasted marshmallow, caramalized sugars off of a baked sweet potato, waxy cranberry/green apple tartness in background, hints of papaya.

Well, this is different. Complex and various flavors run throughout this one. From the notes above, you can see how I struggled trying to pinpoint the flavors. Here’s why – this thing tasted like the smell of someone baking a sweet potato casserole in a room with a holiday scented candle. Figure that out. Perfect for sipping while you prepare an ACTUAL sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving or something.

Fruity, caramel-y, savory, aromatic. Really a treat if you need to reinvigorate your taste buds with something different.
