Maca is a powerful adaptogen that has long been used to treat menopausal symptoms and is now being prescribed by many health practitioners as a safe, effective alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Maca has its origins in South America in particular the country of Peru. It is also known as the Peruvian ginseng and it grows in its hilly plateaus called the Andes. Since the ancient race of the Incas, Maca powder has gained a respectable reputation as a medicinal herb that has many redeeming qualities.

Maca powder is light tan in color and very sweet with a hint of spice. It has much more natural sugar than cocoa. This fine powder can easily blend in with Matcha to make a tea with an exotic flavor and delicious smell that entices its drinkers to partake of it. Furthermore, the health benefits that Maca Matcha provides cannot be undermined because it;

Adds vitality when stamina is low and energy is flagging making it ideal for busy people.
Boosts libido in senior citizens and those with low libido issues making it ideal for all couples.
Renews fertility in those with impotency problems making it ideal for growing families.
Aids the auto immune system to fight off infections making it ideal for ailing people.
Rejuvenates the adrenal glands to protect the body when required making it ideal for vitality.
Revives those suffering from debilitating fatigue and lethargy making it ideal for those with depression and stress.
Replenishes the endocrine system to produce the necessary hormones for the body.
Treats menopausal discomfort in older women.
Adds to the body natural starches, proteins, sugars and minerals such as phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and iron.
Adds also trace elements such as B range of vitamins, oleic oil, linoleic oils and upto 18 necessary amino acids.

Maca Matcha

Buy it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/maca-matcha.html

This is one of the more interesting matcha I have tired from Red Leaf. I wanted to try some flavors that I had never tried before to expand my horizons and in effort to “give back” to Red Leaf by reviewing some of the matcha that was lacking any reviews – especially since they have such a generous “Free Matcha” Program which you can find here:
http://www.redleaftea.com/free-matcha/

My matcha was composed of the following:

Options:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g) which was purchased for an extra 3.00 (price is going up to 4.00 soon which is still reasonable.)
As always I recommend you get the container – the lid screws on and off which keeps your powder safe from spillage and fresh!

I find the flavor of this matcha to be very creamy, sweet, caramel like in flavor with a slight cocoa flavor as well but then there is this little bite to it that is almost fruity. I have to say this is harder to explain than the mangosteen matcha because the mangosteen was mostly fruit flavor but this one has more depth to it and is by far richer in its mouthfeel!

The green powder base flavor comes through stunningly in this flavor of matcha and its grassy, earthy, and wholesome tasting but then I take another sip and I swear I am having a milkshake!

I tired this both straight and in my typical latte form which consists of matcha mixture, ice, about a quarter cup of milk and about an eighth of a cup of vanilla creamer.

This matcha has a much thicker texture to it than other matcha from Red Leaf tea and gives you that feeling of satisfaction if you are hungry.

This is a far more green earth flavor than any of the other matcha I have tried and the base flavor really comes through nicely even with the addition of milk and cream yet the flavor of the maca itself does not seem to be lost in translation even though before this matcha I have never had maca so I am not with experience in what maca actually tastes like I am loving the flavor I am getting!

I did find some interesting information on Maca here: http://www.wholisticresearch.com/info/artshow.php3?artid=233

Don’t be afraid to branch out when it comes to the more diverse flavors Red Leaf has to offer! Expand your horizons – this one is really quite wonderful!

Thanks for all the info/links. Just one of the many things I want to try and having it brought up like this is a gentle reminder that I need to research and start the journey.

Azzrian

:) you won’t regret the journey!

tunes&tea

I may have to pick your head a little, since you are so helpful/accomodating to us new to tea folk. When I’m ready I will PM you some questions since I’m too lazy to research when I see an opportunity arise to circumvent it.

Azzrian

Sounds like an ominous plan! :) Here to help if I can! :)
