From DAVIDsTEA

Looking to add a little passion to your sipping? Maracuja’s the word. Known as passion fruit in Portuguese, this mineral-rich fruit is treasured in South America for its sharp tang and irresistible sweetness. It’s so good, we just had to get in on the action. So we created this thirst-quenching blend of sweet black tea and ripe mango, with a big splash of exotic maracuja. If this delicious tropical delight doesn’t fill you with passion, we don’t know what will.

Writing this tasting note as a way of sort of putting it down in writing, for those who don’t get into a DT often, that this tea is officially… retiring!

I’ll be honest; I’m personally apathetic towards this blend. I don’t think it tastes bad at all, but it’s a rather underwhelming mango and passionfruit note and I really do believe that not only can DT do better but DT has done better – with both of these flavour notes! However, it does seem like a loss to me that we’re losing a fruity black tea from the core selection. Hopefully it’ll be replaced with something better.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Is there a NEW retiring teas list?

Crazy question, but you wouldn’t happen to know of a discount code I could use on the site for free shipping under $50?

Roswell Strange

Yes – but much smaller; Maracuja Mango, Mango Madness, & Sparkling Sangria. I’m not aware of any shipping codes atm.

I bought this tea because of the lovely mango-passionfruit scent. I should have known better. The tea starts off tasting rather bitter and then morphs into a weird sort of artificial-tasting sweetness at the end of each mouthful. The only fruit flavours I’m picking up are that of blackberries (from the sweet blackberry leaves I assume). What is it with DT and putting stevia/licorice root/other sweet herbals in all their teas lately?! If you want a sweet tea just put sugar or honey in the damn tea because nothing else is going to replicate the taste accurately!

Gross, I never even got a chance to smell this one but doesn’t sound like I missed out at all.

I got this and I don’t know why but I was worried about drinking it. Nonetheless, today I decided to make it iced to take with me when I drove to my sister’s place in Mimico. I was actually pleasantly surprised by this one. I am getting a nice top layer of passionfruit, sweet not tart, with notes of sweet mango popping up throughout and in the aftertaste. I’m detecting candied pineapple at the end of the sip while the whole flavor is sitting on a solid black tea foundation, which has body to it to make the drink feel full without imparting flavor (I hope that makes sense to people other than me). All in all, I am enjoying this tea quite a deal more than I thought. I will try experimenting in the future to see if my enjoyment is real or simply excitement over trying a new tea but for now I’m pleased.

I went in on the day this came out, and got it as my $1 iced tea. It’s actually quite lovely. It reminds me of Green Passionfruit, but with a mango kick to it. So if you like green passionfruit, I think you’ll like this tea too! (Provided you like mango) I also like that it’s a black tea as well. More flavour!

Somehow I missed that this has blackberry leaves in it. They give the tea (and all teas with it) a weird taste on my tongue, which is more prominent when the tea cools down, and it is somewhat artificial tasting. Blech, It was a free tea though, as I got a new travel mug, since my beloved kids mug recently cracked internally, rendering it unusable now. So I will drink it, but it is not my fave…would likely love it more had it not had blackberry leaves in it.
