From Butiki Teas

Three Friends (Orange, Marshmallow, Chocolate)
One day we got a call from Marina, a local shop owner, asking us if we would be interested in selling packaged tea in their store, ShowCase Collective, in Bordentown, NJ. We were very excited to be a part of a shop that sells high quality products from local artists. We got to spend a good amount of time in the shop handing out samples of our tea and getting to know two of the owners, Marina and Roya, and got to hear about how creative the third owner, Cindy, is. The two owners were so amazing and inspiring that we wanted to create a blend for the shop that would speak about each of their personalities. Marina is energizing, fun, and has a wonderful spirit. For her we chose orange. Roya is warm, friendly, and family oriented so we chose chocolate for her and the Zhen Qu base tea. Cindy, the creative owner, gets marshmallow because it adds that extra creative element to the blend. This tea has strong orange notes followed by marshmallow notes and dark chocolate notes that linger. The chocolate is very dark and just misses being bitter. Three Friends really shines with a little sugar. The dark chocolate becomes milk chocolate, the orange is juicy, and the sweet marshmallow remains prominent.

Ingredients: Chinese Black Tea, Chocolate Chips (vegan), Organic Orange Peel Pieces, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 3 minutes
Recommended Amount: 1 1/2 teaspoons of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 212 F (boiling)

I can’t believe I didn’t try this sooner, whether by ordering some or asking for a sample.
It’s really good. Doesn’t taste fake at all (and I’m the opposite of vegan so I’m always wary of the weird chemical and soy crap that goes into trying to duplicate something natural like meat or dairy, (though arguably neither of those is particularly natural these days) but Butiki’s teas never taste weird or fake!) and the flavoring is really delicate, not punch you in your face cloying or overwhelming.

Believe it or not, I can actually taste all the flavors, chocolate, orange and marshmallow, sure enough!! Imagine! Regretting not buying this sooner.

Reminds me a bit of Kusmi’s Euphoria, also chocolate orange, but mate rather than black tea.

I really like that one but i might like this one even more :)
It’s a flavored tea done right!

Chizakura

I’ve been wanting to try this too! :) Normally I don’t like tea that has chocolate in it (vegan or otherwise) but judging by Peppermint Patty, she manages to make it really good! :D I want to try both this and raspberry truffle.

ohfancythat

Raspberry Truffle wasn’t for me when I tried it, but maybe in the future that will change :)
This one though, this is a keeper for sure!!

Sil

Yeah raspberry truffle wasn’t my favourite from Stacy. I prefer two friends to three friends but i’m silly like that lol

ohfancythat

Two Friends??? Did you just make that up? Hehe

Sil

well sort of. lol i think? we landed on calling it two friends but stacy made me an awesome side creation of orange and chocolate with the assam base because i was having serious problems with three friends. I was SOOOOOO excited for three friends because i love chocoalte orange but no matter how i steep it, there’s a weird after taste that i get.

ohfancythat

Ohh ok!! Cool :) it must be good! Is it going to be available to the public?

Sil

not sure. I know kittenna, terri and i all ordered some…

Terri HarpLady

and I’m drinking it right now :)

Butiki Teas

whatshesaid-It’s not going to be available online but if enough people are interested I can do a small batch of it.

Nitoo6of6

Now I am so excited!!!! I put an order in for this as well as quite a few other Butiki teas (like cantaloupe and cream, maple pecan oolong, and creamy eggnog).

ohfancythat

You won’t be disappointed!! (Well hopefully :))

SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!

Really nice chocolate, orange and marshmallow taste in this tea! With a fab black tea base to boot! Totally reminds me of Terry’s Chocolate Oranges and chilling out with my Dad.

I had some interesting steeping observations, I noted on my blog:
I had a few steeping times that were off due to impatience or not paying attention. I accidentally oversteeped it by 30 seconds and the marshmallows really popped out. The marshmallow was interesting, but I preferred a weaker marshmallow flavor. I found at the 3 minute steeping mark you get a good balance of the chocolate/orange/marshmallow. The 2:45 minute mark there is very little marshmallow flavor in the first steeping.

Ysaurella

Rob Rauschenberg

This tea sounds amazing…. just added to my shopping list.

Rob Rauschenberg

How could I resist Chocolate, Orange, and VEGAN MarshMallowy goodness!?

Thanks Stacy!

This is a real gem!

The Black Tea base is wonderful in itself but the creamy-smooth chocolate gives a sugar but velvety goodness to it. That bit of marshmallow comparison is a neat touch, too!

It’s fun because I can taste both milk chocolate as well as dark chocolate flavors within this one! The orange is perfect here along side the other ingredients, too!

I want to say this is candy in a cup but then I think – NO – Not Candy…CAKE…NO…dessert…NO…just Awesomeville…squared!

It’s creative, it meshes very well, it’s different that other orange chocolate flavored tea, and different than just an average flavored black – it’s WAY above average, folks! It’s Excellent!!!!

YUMMERS.

Delightful! I could drink this everyday!

Sil

waaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnntttttttttt

Crystal

Ordered some of this today after reading your review. So excited for it to arrive 8D

Soooo I got my Butiki Teas order (THANKYOUSTACYILOVEYOU!) and everything I’ve tried is SO good that I am thinking of selling all the teas I don’t care for in one big package. Just to make room for more Butiki.

No time to say more at the moment, but I’ll be back after work!

All I’ll throw in for now is that the base of this tea is amazing and the flavours perfectly blended. THANK YOU for a creamy chocolate orange tea that doesn’t taste like fish (sorry DavidsTea, your puerh leaves a lot to be desired). It’s just.. so.. perfect. Ahhhh

Rob Rauschenberg

This is on my shopping list. Sounds so good!

Daisy Chubb

Definitely worth it!

Rob Rauschenberg

I haven’t placed a Butiki order yet but I loved the Cantaloupe & Cream so much, I think I need to this month. I know exactly what you mean about the fishy tastes of Puerh sometimes.

Plunkybug

I love the DT tea, and I don’t get fishy leaves from the Pu Erh, but I’d love to try this too. It’s on my list. The Cantaloupe and Cream is so amazing. I can’t wait to order more, though I am hoarding the last bit I have from my sample, I think.

TheTeaFairy

Daisy, funny you should mention that, I realize that so many of my favorite teas are now from Butiki that I totally loose interest in some other companies I used to order from on regular basis… I have a sample of this to try, tonight is the night :-)

I made a terrible discovery today. All of my emails from one account were going to Spam and not getting forwarded to my main email. So I have to sort through months of emails. So, if you’re one of those people out there who has emailed me and never heard back, that’s why.

I think this may be my favorite flavored tea. Creamy chocolate, slight nuttiness, orange. Nothing overpowering but so good. The best part of this blend is the base. It’s one of the most chocolaty black teas I have ever tried. I almost feel bad that I just drank the last of this because I will miss it…I sense a Butiki order in my very near future.

This is a fantastic tea : I can detect the 3 flavours without problem and distinctively, lovely.
Just love the way the orange works with chocolate.
I love the tea base, so mellow, so comfortable for the palate.
Even if I am not a fan of marshmallows (in France we call them Chamallows) at all-I remember being very sick with some when I was a child – I had several marshmallow teas and this one is from far the best one.

I love it but I agree with Azz, it sucks to have only one sample of it :)

“Chamallows”? I didn’t know that, how cute :-) Here, we just call them plain boring “Guimauves”… I knew I should have ordered this one couple of weeks ago! Oh well, something to put on the list then…
P.S. Being sick from marshmallows doesn’t sound too good! Goowee!

Ysaurella

chamallows is the name the brand haribo uses in France for these kind of guimauves (little cubes) look at the advertisement in French this is this one which made chamallows the classic name used for these types of guimauves :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPp2WydRMTQ
we say now a chamallow exactly as we say a frigidaire (nickname frigo) (which is an old brand) to speak about a fridge in place of réfrigérateur

Well now I just have to write a note about this tea since I’m down to my last cup! Love the smell of the dry leaf. Seriously like a Terry’s chocolate orange. I’m having trouble finding marshmallow in this blend, though, but I really don’t mind. I’m honestly just looking for that perfect chocolate orange tea, anyway.

Whenever I follow the steeping parameters, the Terry’s aspect doesn’t seem to come through in the taste. I did notice that this time around though I added a little more than the recommended amount of leaf since I didn’t have enough left for two cups. I also semi-forgot about it as I was browsing the internet and let it steep for probably an extra minute or two, and would you know that it’s better this way? All the times I’ve had it before and followed the instructions, the tea felt a little thin, and the chocolate orange flavour was weak, and now it’s been kicked up a notch a bit. I can even taste the base more too.

I added some half and half and it’s really more like orange milk chocolate. I see what some reviewers mean though by some semi-weird aftertaste, perhaps from the marshmallow. Otherwise, I’m actually happier with the way this last cup turned out. Would I repurchase? Maybe, but maybe if Stacy would be cool with it, I’d like to order the Two Friends sometime. :)

Sil

incendiare – we can likely coordinate making a batch when we all need to replenish. that way shes making a bunch in one go.

TheTeaFairy

I’m an over steeper, I always end up steeping longer than recommended! I’m glad you found your sweet spot with this one :-)

Butiki Teas

If there is enough interest, we could do another small batch.

Sil

nothing like having three friends harass you to give your address to one of those friends.. grin

The rain finally let up in Napa, but it’s expected to return soon. I don’t mind since we really need it! Even though the weather was nice, Casey and I decided to continue our bad movies and good tea marathon tonight. We are drinking this tea and watching Curse of Chucky. Oh, yes.

This tea reminds me so much of Christmas! I used to always find a chocolate orange in my stocking from Santa. I’m surprised at how close this tea tastes to a real chocolate orange!

The first part of the sip starts out with the light and tangy flavor of orange, tightly hugged by the dark chocolate. The tea base seems to support the chocolate orange flavor beautifully — lending itself well by adding bitterness to the orange notes and richness to the chocolate. The marshmallow makes for a very soft and smooth finish. It’s fluffy and silky. Delicious! I wish I could detect a bit more marshmallow (I LOVE marshmallow teas) but overall, I’m very happy with how yummy this blend is! A permanent spot in my tea collection!

Josie Jade

Oh I love those chocolate oranges that you whack to break up all the segments! Is that what this one tastes like?!

QueenOfTarts

Yep! Those “whack and unwrap” oranges! If you love those, try this blend! It’s fantastic!

Lariel of Lórien

That one sounds really good.

Josie Jade

It’s on my list! :)
