Tea of the Week for August 2, 2021!

It took some tweaking to get this tea where I wanted it to be. It even took some hibiscus! (Gasp!) Under most circumstances, hibiscus is a nope. Generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of hibiscus. When overdone, it can overwhelm a blend. When oversteeped, the hibiscus will get very thick & syrupy (not a very pleasant texture to me, personally) & unpleasantly tart (again, too tart for me).

But, for this blend, it helps enhance the tangy notes of the blood orange just enough – as well as provide a pleasing raspberry tint to the steeped liquid. (Just make sure that you don’t have too much hibiscus in your measurement when you steep it – one flower per serving should suffice.)

The base for this blend is our amazing Genmaicha. I added a bunch of dried blood orange wedges, some vanilla beans & a bit of hibiscus. The result is a tea that is sweet & creamy, just a little bit toasty from the Genmaicha & bit tart from the blood orange & hibiscus. It tastes like an amazingly delightful twist to the classic summertime creamsicle treat … only better, because TEA!

This blend is organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & all natural!

organic ingredients: green tea, toasted/popped rice, blood oranges, hibiscus, vanilla bean & natural flavors

Tea #6

Mood for citrusy green tea today morning? Well, let’s search for some. With this TTB I can fullfil any wishes of my family members as well as mine.

It was my craving actually, and this sounded good. I have opened the small sachet and it was indeed an interesting mix of blood orange and genmai, but I put 5 grams to fillable tea bag; reading later I should use 3 grams for 12 oz. But maybe that did quite the trick, as it was lovely genmaicha with creamy aftertaste. The blood orange? Wasn’t sadly much present, but it was noticeable as a slightly sweet note. Also, for me it was a rather “orange” orange, not the blood kind.

AJRimmer Advent tea #3
Unfortunately, this one was a bit of a miss. I mostly got toasted ricey genmaicha, and a little bit of cream but I can’t say I tasted any orange flavor. The genmaicha was nice, but unfortunately not the only thing this tea is supposed to be. I might try the rest of this iced and see if that brings out the creamsicle orange flavor any

Sipdown 42

This wasn’t even in my Steepster cupboard for some reason. This was okay- not my favorite 52Teas genmaicha blend, but still a nice light creamy orange flavored on the genmaicha.

Hmm the elements of this one are slightly disjointed for me. I mostly taste genmaicha, and I think the toasted rice is sometimes too strong here. The first time I tried this, it was almost bitter in its strong toasty quality. I also tasted a soft orange, not really sour at all, plus some creaminess. However, things aren’t really blending together smoothly. The elements sort of hit at different times and don’t really become one cohesive whole. I wish I could taste that delicious orange more, but it’s really covered up by the rice. Adding milk sort of helped smooth everything out, but I’m still not interested in trying this a third time. The resteep tastes only like toasted rice.

Mastress Alita’s Sipdown Challenge February 2022: A tea flavored like a favorite snack food

Technically two favourite snacks: marshmallow Rice Krispies and citrus fruit (all of them). Unfortunately, this last cup doesn’t quite deliver on the citrus (although subtle, my first two cups did capture some floral “red fruit” blood orange essence). It’s definitely creamy in the way that only melted marshmallows are (in butter with Rice Krispies.).

It’s not my favourite of Anne’s Genmaicha dessert blends but it does fine in a pinch (I also liked how the small amount of hibiscus was employed here).

Sipdown! (14 | 466)

This one is pleasant enough, but I don’t really get much orange from it, if any? Which is a shame, given I love orange teas. Mostly it tastes like a somewhat creamy genmaicha. I would’ve almost guessed it was the marshmallow treat one? Not tasting hibiscus either, even though I know there was some in my scoop. Not surprised by that though, since the steeped mug is very pale in color.

So it’s enjoyable, but mostly just genmaicha he he.

Not overly orangey but some nice creaminess, with the distinctive genmaicha base. Not a favourite, but enjoyable enough.
