I became obsessed with barley tea after trying it in a Korean restaurant. I was suspicious of this brand because I never usually make tea from teabags but my suspicions were thrown out the window after I tried this tea for the first time.

It’s extremely easy to make but I think the flavor does improve when the water has been heated. For iced tea I steep the bag(s) overnight and for hot tea I use boiling water (212 F) and I steep the tea for a couple of hours. Barley tea tastes great with some honey added or by itself. I have yet to try a wedge of lemon with my tea but I’m sure the citrus would contrast well with robust barley flavor.

drank Wuyi Oolong by Rishi Tea

I found this tea to be a little too bitter for my liking, perhaps it is more oxidized than the oolong teas I am used to drinking. The flavor is quite robust and holds up to a number of steepings (~6). I absolutely love barley but I didn’t detect a strong barley presence due to the overpowering sweet raisin notes.

I was happy to try this tea but I don’t think I will be purchasing more in the future.

drank Peppermint by Rishi Tea

Delicious and soothing with an amazing smell! I love to drink this iced with a bit of honey. It can be steeped about 2-3 times and for the last steep I usually leave it in for a long time since this tea doesn’t turn bitter.

If you have a cold or an upset stomach I definitely recommend this tea.

drank Sweet Matcha Original by Rishi Tea

I thought this was pretty delicious and sometimes I mix it with unsweetened matcha. Now if only I can purchase a larger amount…Rishi only sells it in small 125g pouches on their website and I think the larger tin pictured here is out of stock.

If you’ve never tried matcha and you have a bit of a sweet tooth, I’d definitely recommend this tea!

I find this matcha surprisingly hard to mix…even using a Magic Bullet or blender. I found myself having to constantly remix or shake my drinks.

The flavor was pretty good but I was not blown away because compared to other matcha powders I’ve tried, Teavana’s is too expensive for the quality/taste.

Try mixing this with some unsweetened rice milk instead of water for a more robust flavor. I’m planning on mixing the matcha with some ice cream soon to make my own green tea ice cream.

drank Coconut Oolong by Rishi Tea

This is by far my favorite tea from Rishi Tea. It is heavenly tasting! The Bao Zhong used is good quality and the toasted coconut flavor is perfect. The coconut does not overwhelm the flowery notes from the Bao Zhong.

You can steep this a number of times (3-4). I think this tea tastes best chilled but it’s also lovely hot.

drank Monkey-Picked Oolong by Teavana

I decided to try this from Teavana despite the price to compare it to other Tie Guan Yin’s I’ve tried. I’ve got to say I found this tea to be too subtle and rather bland. Where is the flavor? I thought it would get better with multiple infusions but it didn’t.

The next few times I made this tea I used a lot more tea leaves than suggested but it still didn’t meet my expectations.

Needless to say I was very disappointed and I will not be purchasing this tea again.

drank Rooibos Sweet Amore by Teavana

This tea is definitely better mixed with others but it’s still pretty good by itself. I am pretty miffed though that the Teavana associate who last sold this to me lied about it being discontinued in order to get me to purchase much more of this tea than I normally would have.

I do agree with other members the rooibos flavor does overwhelm some of the other ingredients. The flavors of peach, pear, and apples are bit muddled.

drank Wild Rose by Rishi Tea

Hm I am surprised at the low ratings. I really enjoy this tea! It’s the very first Rishi Tea I tried and I still can’t get enough of it. I think this tea tastes best with honey or rock sugar and with also additional rose hips added. But if you are not a huge fan of roses, stay away! The flavor of roses is quite strong.

I’d say you could steep this tea about 3 times.

drank Jasmine Pearl by Rishi Tea

This scented green tea is quite delicious and has an extremely fragrant jasmine aroma. Last time I made this with my boyfriend we actually stood there and inhaled a lot of the steam that was released…very relaxing!

I consider Rishi Tea’s jasmine pearls better than Teavana’s jasmine pearls, having tried them both a number of times. The tea can be steeped a number of times (6-7) and although the aroma of jasmine dissipates with each steep, the subtle flavor remains.

You’ll be surprised at the volume of tea leaves that’s left after the pearls unfurl. A few pearls go a long way!

Profile

Bio

I’ve been a loose tea drinker since 2006 and I really started getting into tea during my college years. My favorite types are oolong, scented green, white, peppermint, and rooibos.

My husband and I drink it on a daily basis and we love our trusty Zojirushi water dispenser. Some of the tea we drink hot, and the rest we chill.

I enjoy tea with honey or german rock sugar. I also try to seek out unique honey for my tea. My favorite so far is unprocessed Hawaiian white gold honey.

If I’ve rated a tea over 90, it’s something I will definitely be drinking again in the future.

Lately I’ve been enjoying a lot of authentic Chinese tea that was gifted to me from my mother after her last trip to China. Unfortunately I won’t be able to write notes for those teas on Steepster.
