4 Tasting Notes


I found a Mighty Leaf variety pack of full leaf tea bags in my local supermarket and decided to give it a go. This is my first Mighty Leaf experience. It smells and tastes like a creamsicle, as many have suggested here. I completely agree. With the addition of a lot of floral characteristics. It is a very pleasant tasting tea. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I am impressed with the quality of the tea, since it is in a tea bag, and I generally only drink loose leaf, I wasn’t expecting to like it so much!

Since I have been drinking loads of caffeine in the form of diet soda, yerba mate and oolong all day long, I thought I would slow down a little tonight and steep a little herbal “tea”. This is a fruit infusion that I bought from Tea Desire, and it came highly recommended.

The nose of the loose product is INTENSE. This is a blend of blood orange wedges, apple, lemon grass and mint. It smells candy-like and sweet and immensely cool and fruity. Normally I would choose a warming cup of rooibos for a non-caffeinated night-time drink, but I thought I’d give this a try.

The color of the steeped liquid is, well, it looks a lot like apple juice. The flavor is bright, a little bit acidic, but in a refreshing, thirst-quenching way. It is very fruity. I am sure that is the whole intention of this blend. The flavor of the lemon grass is more prominent on my palate than both the blood orange and the mint. Luckily, I love the flavor of lemongrass, but it may be a little overwhelming for some. I find the mint mostly comes out on the finish and it is very pleasant. The blood orange is a unique touch, and adds beautiful color and flavor to this infusion. This is definitely a candidate for iced tea. Blend it with a little iced white tea and a touch of honey, and I think the flavors would come out very nicely if not a bit more subtly.

I like this one, I enjoy the unrestrained intensity of the big, bold flavors and aromas. It’s not complex, it tastes exactly like it looks like it’s going to taste, no surprises. Sometimes, that can be a good thing.

I love Earl Grey, but I found the bergamot in this one to be quite overpowering. I added a bit of milk and sugar, which I wasn’t planning to, and it was much better. It just balanced out the super floral-y, super bergamot-y flavor. It was more drinkable then, and I was semi-pleased. But this is definitely not my favorite Earl Grey.

I received this tea from The Metropolitan Tea Company this week, in a package of several samples of their great tea. The blend contains Ceylon tea with natural vanilla and grenadine oils to add flavor and character to the black tea. It also contains calendula and sunflower petals. Story goes that Tibetan monks invented this blend, to keep them alert and ready for their daily toils, and as a stimulant for long periods of meditation and reflection.

The dry leaves are nice, tight little rolled up dark leaves with pretty bits of yellow petals. They smell of vanilla bean infused sugar, and a little, I mean a little, light citrus perfume. It sort of reminds me of Earl Grey in its composition, a great black tea with natural oils added for flavor and embellishment. This is very promising.

The infusion is a reddish-coppery, color. The fragrance is intoxicating. A little robust coffee, notes of vanilla, sweet and hints of floral character. Molasses aroma. Right away, I seem to taste a light, very delicious, but subtle creamy cherry flavor. Toasty, roasty, a little nutty. This is an amazing, full flavored, medium bodied black tea. I like every characteristic, every layer of flavor, the lingering finish, the chocolaty undertone…

Tea drinker’s will love this, and even coffee fanatics might fancy this one. It’s rich, robust, highly flavorful. It is spectacular. One of my new favorites. Thank you Metropolitan Tea Company for introducing me to this traditional tea. It is very, very good.
