A big Thank YOU to Kittenna for this sample!
Well I am a self proclaimed Not a DT fan but this is just darn fine!
I did add a little german rock sugar from Butiki to my tea.
Its perfectly sweet, tastes like blueberry jam and not one little bit tart which is one thing I do love about this tea! Sometimes blueberry can be a tad too tart for me.
I got a nice sample with tons of blueberries in it! Either Kit was very generous or this tea is riddled with lovely little blueberries!
Seemed to be an equal ratio of blueberries to tea!
As good as the blueberry is a nice simply black base comes through.
Not very complex of a tea but really does take care of the sweet tooth craving!
LOVE IT!
Thank you Kit and I do hope one day to place a DT order. Its funny that I have managed not to as of yet.

The tea is jam-packed with blueberries! Or at least the sample I got was. So no special treatment from me :) Glad it was another hit!

Azzrian

well its AWESOME!
Thanks again !!

TheTeaFairy

I just received my order of this, Kittena my pouch is as loaded with blueberries as yours was, DT did an amazing job with this one!

Kittenna

Did you eat the blueberries after? They were still super tasty :D

Azzrian

HA you know it!

momo

I will fully admit I made blueberry jam today because of this tea.

Azzrian

No shame in that! :)

TheTeaFairy

Of course, how to resist? cute mini blueberries taste like candies! And the fact that there are no artificial flavor in this one makes them taste even better to me:)

Kittenna

There is stevia in the tea though, sadly. I did notice more sweetness than expected, but only when comparing it to 52teas Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish (that I got from Azzrian, of course)!

Azzrian

I need to place an order with them

tigress_al

Yep, my pouch is full of blueberries too! This one is so good

drank Lemon Zest by Joy's Teaspoon
807 tasting notes

My daughter and I made lemon cupcakes with buttercream frosting thinned a little with fresh lemon juice.
Instead of adding water to the cake mix (yeah we didn’t go homemade we took the lazy way out) we added this tea.
Let me tell you these are the best cupcakes E V E R.
Like fluffy airy clouds of melting lemon yumminess floating on your taste buds.
Yay for Lemon Zest!
:)

Daisy Chubb

Great idea! Lemon anything is the best choice ;)

Azzrian

Oh yeah :)

JoysTeaspoon

Awesome idea. I am going to have to tuck that one away.

They were gone the next day! :)

drank Black Pearl by Mandala Tea
807 tasting notes

I am exhausted and the day is only half over considering I got up at a reasonable time today. However I know I will have my second wind around midnight so I have a ways to go.

So I began my day with this tea by accident. I had ordered two yixing pots from Mandala and one was called Black Pearl. Instead of that I got this but I am not unhappy about it. I almost ordered this with my yixings and other offerings but took it out of my cart to stay under my budget. You see the black pearl tea in the 4 ounce quantity is almost the exact same price as the yixing pot! Needless to say I wrote Garret and said I would keep this tea and get the second yixing soon. So happy accident. The best kind!

The first thing I thought when I saw the tea was “wow those are some big balls”. Okay if you are done laughing – they really are large when compared to say gunpowder green or jasmine pearls etc. So I now have a very immature and yet affectionate name for this tea.

I had two steeps this morning then ran errands, went to our tiny local Asian shop, grabbed some Pad Thai noodles, some siriacha sauce, ube ice cream, and white rabbit candy. No really knock out teas there but its not like I need more tea.

Then I came home, seasoned my yixing pot which is now soaking, and am having my third steep.

The tea is awesome. Toasty, chocolate notes seem to be what really grab me. I also enjoy the malty notes and the grain notes as others have mentioned. It has more than endured three steeps and I project can go at least 2 if not 3 or so more.

I stepped 4 pearls in my Kali Tea cup with infuser (8 ounces).

First steep 1 min, then 2 min on steep two, steep three I was distracted by several things, my daughter’s soup I was making, neighbors dog loose, a fire truck showing up down the road at another neighbors, (hope she is okay), etc and so on.

This steep got a good 10 minutes or more and it is SO rich SO yummy yet it is not astringent, nor bitter! WOW!

Perhaps I won’t be able to get those other steeps since I totally over steeped this one yet on smelling the leaves they still seem to have far more to offer! The leaves now have a lovely vegetal aroma to them! The following steeps will be interesting indeed!
More to come if I remember to note more.

TeaBrat

This is a great tea! Happy you got your order.

Azzrian

Yeah I agree Garret is awesome and I am sure he will kick himself for the error but it was an honest mistake. This tea is so worth having. :)

Garret

uggghhhhhhh!!!!! I cant believe that happened!!! I saw black pearl and I immediately thought of the black tea. I apologize! But… I am so glad you enjoyed the tea!!! I bought these black pearls during the last couple trips to China and I love love love love them!!!

Azzrian

Oh yes I do enjoy them and will prize them as well! They are lovely. :) Don’t worry about it Garret – I was confused at first where the other Yixing was and then saw the tea and realized the confusion lol kind of funny really.

Thomas Smith

What tea are you seasoning the pot with/for?

Azzrian

Seasoning for Shu – will do Sheng in the other yixing when i get it.
I used Bu Lang Gong Ting from Mandala to start the process.

Kittenna

Azzrian – are these like the Fengqing Black Pearls from Teavivre? Also – I love white rabbit candies!!! I can eat a whole bag (probably) in one sitting, but I haven’t had them in a while. Perhaps when I’m visiting my parents in a couple weeks I can convince them to get some :D

Azzrian

I don’t know I don’t think I even have those – if I do I have not tapped into them yet. Unless I did and forgot about it. I really don’t think I have tried these yet.

Thomas Smith

Shu Puerh seasons so nice and easily and you don’t really need to work about pot material as long as it’s an fixing pot rather than a terra cotta mimic (shape and size is still important, though). I didn’t realize how lucky I got with my first Sheng pot, though, until I tried seasoning three more pots for gifts and found a lot of issues depending on material. Wound up keeping one and only use it for tea that’s 20+ years old since it’s a great pot but doesn’t work well at all for younger tea.

Thomas Smith

Gah, stupid autocorrect. work=worry, fixing=yixing

Azzrian

LOL yeah I knew what ya meant but yes auto correct can be a pain sometimes!
How many pots do you have?

Thomas Smith

Currently just 9 yixing pots since I season and give some away as gifts and am down to my personal use ones (I just sold two other personal use ones, which I won’t list here). 100mL Zi Ni Squat Modified Shi Piao for loose, small leaf Shu Puerh; 220mL Zi Ni Shi Piao for larger leaf and compressed Shu Puerh; 220mL Duan Ni Rounded Shi Piao for young Sheng Puerh; 110mL Zhu Ni pearl-shaped pot for traditional style Tieguanyin; 180mL Zi Ni Rong Tian for Fenghuang Dancongs; 180mL aged coarse Zhu Ni Rong Tian for Da Hong Pao; 180mL “Black Zhu Ni” (I think it’s just very dark Zi Ni, really) Rong Tian for roasty Wuyi Yancha, Shui Xian, and Rou Gui; 110mL thin-walled Zhu Ni Rong Tian for non-roasty Gaoshan Oolongs; 150mL Qing Hui Ni Shi Piao for 20+ year old Sheng Puerh (paired with matching cups).

Azzrian

Well you are WAY WAY ahead of me LOL I am still a youngin when it comes to yixing but learning all I can :)

TeaBrat

I only have two right now – for wuyi oolongs and for sheng, but I need one more at least for shu. I am not quite as advanced at Thomas, here. :D

Azzrian

I just have the one still lol getting one more from mandala on payday for shu and maybe another for oolong but I think THINK I will stop there. Then again I have said that about teas before too :)

Thomas Smith

Ultimately it’s best to just have ‘em for the teas you enjoy by yourself on a very frequent basis. I’m kinda bummed how little I use my Gaoshan pots (just sold one for the roastier Gaoshans that I drink more frequently). I also wish I used my aged puerh pot more, but that’s an issue of supply rather than demand ;p
I definitely recommend matching the shape to the tea, though. Rounder with a higher lid clearance for teas that will expand or (more importantly) have a greater amount of light aromatics to retain; more squat and larger volume for allowing settling and opening of compressed teas while retaining temperature.

@Amy: So says the person with more than 10x the reviews on here, hahaha.

Azzrian

Now that is some sound advice! I never thought about shape before! Thank you!

Well dang – again – a tea that is riddle with hibiscus flavor and fails to impress. I am so disappointed at this point I am done ordering ANYTHING that has hibiscus in the ingredient list unless I have heard from others that FOR SURE the hibiscus does not take over the whole tea!
Disappointment.
I should have read the other tasting note BEFORE ordering my fault.
BAH BAH BAH!

momo

I almost got this to cold steep but it looked so full of hibsicus I changed my mind!

momo

oops, hibiscus. Fingers too fast for my eyes!

Azzrian

You were right to change your mind.

CHAroma

Awww, I’m sorry! :( Hopefully the next tea will be better!

Azzrian

Thanks :)

This is delicious! Thank you Missy and Dylan for sending me a sample of this!!
You know I have not had the best of luck with coconut flavored teas – with the exception of several good coconut oolongs and pouchongs. This however is a really good tasting tea! I like that it is a mix of rooibos and black as I enjoy a soothing morning cup now and then.
The flavors are vanilla, coconut, and cocoa.
Not over powering, very smooth, just YUM!
Steeped the same way that Missy had in her notes and while I was skeptical about the short steep time it works perfectly!

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 2 min, 0 sec
Missy

hehe I’m still scared of long steep times. Glad you enjoyed it!

Azzrian

Thanks it was great!

Indigobloom shared a sample of this one with me. Thank you Indigobloom for all your generous samples!
I am not sure this is my cup of tea.
Its naturally sweet and has a nice body of flavor but it just has a flavor that is not hitting me right today.
Its a little sour tasting but not bitter or astringent at all – a little like something that sat out on the counter for too long.

Indigobloom

I wasn’t sure what to think of it either! it wasn’t bad… just very different! need to review it

My gut said not to use boiling water and upon checking a few notes here of others I was validated in that so went with a 195 degree at 3 min steep.
Results:
Smell – I am picking up the green tea aroma quite nicely! Peach is lush and juicy smelling, a small aroma of the black base coming through as well.
Mostly smelling the lovely green tea base however then peach.
Color is a light reddish brown – I can see the bottom of my cup.
Flavor – the green base is most present, peach is light, a little too light for me but I will say not artificial whatsoever. Very fresh, juicy tasting ripe peach. The black base does not over power at all but is lightly present minding its manners.
After taste of the peach is more present now which is lovely. I may have to take back what I said about wanting it more predominant, this is nice to have this light fresh after flavor.
Very bright cup, I know I keep saying it but VERY juicy.
No astringency, no bitterness, I recommend this temp and steep time.
Flavors become more predominant as tea cools somewhat but I find that with many teas.
Not sure how it would fair iced and since I only have the sample I will remain unsure but I agree with the other person who suggested the Joy’s Ocho sampler! I love my little tins and have washed some of them out to send others samples in! Great for the crafty sort of people who want to store gems, beads, pins, buttons, etc.
This is an excellent tea for those who like a light flavor that is very authentic tasting in a lovely mixed green and black base.
Personally when I have a flavored tea I like a tad more punch – I either go ALL natural with straight teas or all the way to the other spectrum with super sweet teas. The ones that lay in the middle are just not my thing but I can sure appreciate this tea for its super good quality, excellent flavors, and wonderful base. Artfully mastered!

drank Champagne Rosé by Lupicia
807 tasting notes

So delicious!
When I ordered it I THOUGHT that it was Strawberry Rose not Rose’ – I did not pay attention when ordering on Lupicia I guess.
Order frenzy you know – things just get added to the cart sometimes.
I am not huge on Rose teas but at the time thought oh well I’ll give it a shot.
Boy was I confused and surprised when I first tried this one!
I have to say I am SO THRILLED I LOVE champagne and wine infused teas!
This is by far one of the best I have tried to date!
Really good when it gets cold too!

Will Work For Tea

Happy accident!

Azzrian

The best kind of accident LOL yes it sure was!

This is something I must have more of!
Now I am not sure why – maybe my palate is just different from others but I get a definitive spicy element in this tea! Chaiapple tea perhaps? I know that the description says nothing about spicy but I was absolutely getting a chaiesque flavor in this tea! The delicate floral oolong base was outstanding and came through loud and clear. The pineapple – superb! Not one artificial flavoring element within this tea whatsoever – perfection!
I ate all the pineapple out of the leaves after the second steep and I do not recall ever having such tasty juicy sweet delicious pineapple before!
I will absolutely get me more of this wonderful stuff!
I still am confused over the spicy element in this tea but I loved it – was a nice surprise!

Butiki Teas

That spicy element is so weird. I will have to brew a cup and see if I can get that. Spicy like cinnamon or something else?

I taste tested 5-7 different freeze-dried pineapple brands to make sure I found the best tasting one. This was by far the sweetest and most delicious (and most of expensive, of course).

Azzrian

LOL of course!
Let me know if you get that spicy element! Probably PM me since I can’t seem to keep up with comments on here well. I am curious if it was just me or if I accidentally contaminated it with something else I brewed previously although I can’t recall brewing anything spicy before hand. I don’t even have many chai teas right now unfortunately.

I have only skimmed the tasting notes on this one as I am not feeling well. This is my comfort tea for today. I did notice in my skimming of the notes that many people seem to turn to this tea in times of illness or emotional upset. This seems to be the go to tea for that sort of thing.
It sure is interesting for a green tea. Its one everyone should try.
I just want to slink back onto the sofa and indulge in this one.
Roasty, toasty, vegetal yet chocolaty – a bizarre mix that just works for me!
Sorry for such a lame tasting note, need to get rid of this incessant headache and clear the sinuses.
Next time I will use less leaf and or lower the water temp – seems to be a little finicky but I love it none the less.

TeaBrat

feel better soon! :D

Azzrian

Thank you :)

Hesper June

I hope you feel better quick!

Azzrian

Slowly getting better. Headache is gone, still have spinny head but managing to spend money on tea stuff regardless so I can’t be THAT sick lol – hope I have energy to get on the treadmill later. Uggggg

Indigobloom

awww get well soon hun! glad your headache is gone xx

Azzrian

Thanks :) its strange – I get hungry and nauseous at the same time! I eat and feel better but get hungry AND nauseous again about an hour later. I am wondering if it is due to my newly developed treadmill workouts lol if so this isn’t going to do much for getting into shape! I am taking a day off the treadmill today – just no energy for it.

Missy

Hope you feel better soon!

TeaBrat

Azzrian – I hate the treadmill. It makes me feel like I have motion sickness!

Azzrian

Thank you MIssy :)

Amy it does me for a little right after I get off but it has never made me sick like this before – then again I have never done it three days in a row before lol yeah three whole days and now I have to take a day off already Ugggg it better not be the treadmill the thing was expensive and is taking up a whole small room in my house! BAH!

Missy

How long of a session?

Kittenna

Eek, I hope it’s not the treadmill! I had the spinny head/headache a couple weeks ago when I first got sick. Not fun at all feeling dizzy all day. I didn’t have the hunger/nausea problem though.

Mark B

I’m crazy about this tea. Strangely enough I just bought some High Mountain Fog Green Tea from Wing Hop Fung. I’d bet that’s not really it’s name. I took a picture of the the jar. Maybe someone can translate it for me. Point being, it’s kinda the low-rent version of this. It’s fairly cheap, but satisfies in a similar way. I’m still going to save my Verdant for special occasions when I can really appreciate it. But it’s nice to have an alternative in the same wheelhouse.

Feel better!

Azzrian

Missy I have been going for about 20 minutes – 1 mile. per day.

Krystaleyn – It could have just been a little bug – I am feeling a lot better today.

Mark – I think that is a good idea – have a similar lower priced one for daily drinking and save the verdant for when you can really sit with it and enjoy throughly!

Most of my reviews will be “snippits” of full reviews that can be found at http://sororiteasisters.com/
Posted every evening at 6 EST.
I usually try to post the exact date that the full reviews will post however sometimes post dates need changed so it may not always be correct. Generally the dates are correct however.

About Me:

Most of my reviews, although not all, will be quite favorable of the tea. This is not because all tea is excellent, but more so because I generally will not waste my time on an inferior tea. If I do not care for a tea I won’t continue to drink it let alone spend time reviewing it. If you see a review by me you basically know it is a quality tea. Granted it may not suit your specific taste buds, we all like different things, but as for a tea on the whole it is a good one, from a good company.

I am a spiritual advisor by profession.
I have two “young adult” children.
Four cats and three dogs.

Some of my hobbies include gardening, essential oil therapy, natural perfumery with essential oils, and cooking.

I look for complexity overall in any tea, dimensions to the flavors.

I believe tea should evoke a feeling, thought, emotion, or attitude.

I enjoy most all oolongs, blacks, whites, and greens.

I always love to try a good yellow tea.

I favor unadulterated teas but I do have my longings for a good flavored tea now and then so I don’t rule them out by any means!

I enjoy green rooibos don not like red rooibos.
