Got a sample from my darling MzPriss, which I am drinking in the nook for Saturday AM tea time!!!

This is good stuff. Pleasant and sweet. This is a great nook tea for a cold day. 9 degrees and I am not going anywhere today!!!!

Preparation

Note – this was originally posted in the wrong spot. Verdant had another version of a cornfields shou in a bird nest shape. I deleted that and moved it here, to the correct place.

I’m a little bummed. All the reviews on this are amazeballs, but I really didn’t care for it. I don’t know that I got the same thing as previous stock. The pic shows little bird nests, but mine are a flat disc and the wrapper is different. The little discs were very tightly compacted and had a pretty heavy fermentation flavor.

I did a rinse and rest to let the cake expand, and I used very short steeps. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Happy new year!

Maybe I used too much tea. I’m in my nook, so I wasn’t measuring. Also, I may need to let the water cool a bit more. This was pretty darn bitter, even with just 10 second steeps. I’ll try again soon. Switching to shou for now!

Brian

Yea. I’m noticing the more Sheng I experience, weight is key. No matter the flash brew time. Give it another try. (I’ve nvr had this tea btw). I wouldn’t change the temp. Puerh should be just off the boil as far as I have learned. Just drop the weight.
As I’m sure u know, the tighter the press on the cake, the more it will open up. ;)

SarsyPie

I normally use 200 degrees for all pu’erhs, but the kettle in my nook only boils, so I can’t set a temp. I’ll definitely try less tea next time :)

Not bad at all, but I am kicking myself for not drinking the 2002 last. Sadly, nothing seems as good as that one. But this is quite lovely. No complaints! I can taste a hint of fermentyness. No astringency or bitterness. Definitely full of yums!

The wet leaves smell pretty freakin’ super. Fruity, smokey (very slight). A bit of leather maybe? Really good aromas!

This is so smooth. Been using that word a lot lately, but I’ve also been drinking teas that are a bit older. I hope I’m this smooth in 10 years!

I’m enjoying this in my tea nook with my TeaFFs on a cold Sunday AM. Bummed about going back to work tomorrow, but stoked that I am off Thursday and Friday next week! I’m almost done with 100 squares on my knit blanket and all the pups are snuggled on the bed with me. Abby is snoring!

So maybe I’m just in a really good mood, but yeah. This tea is super. It’s been aged well and just has a bit o’astringency on the end. Happy tea. Of happiness!

Hell-fucking-O

This is the shit right here. Zero fermenty funk. It’s just smooth and gorgeous. Holy crap. I love it.

And son of a bitch. It’s sold out. FFS. :(

Only a 97! – Are you sure you enjoyed this shu? ;-)

SarsyPie

No. It was awful. If they get more, DO NOT buy any.

More for me. :p

looseTman

Are you a George Carlin fan? ;-)

SarsyPie

Jeez, looseTman. Isn’t everyone?

looseTman

I bet you’re a Richard Pryor fan too! ;-)

Terri HarpLady

I always buy a brick, when it comes to master Han!
I, who grew up on George Carlin, was thrilled when one of my sons ordered the entire set of every standup he ever made, hours & hours of hearing laughter from both sons. They still listen, it never gets old.

looseTman

Yea, George is definitely a classic!

Woo woo in a cake.

Here are my notes and impressions:
- dried leaf smells fresh and fruity
- wet smells like leathery dried apricots
- Broth color is pale yellow
- Feels nicely woo woo

As I was drinking this and skypeing with MzPriss, I found myself losing track of the convo. Luckily we do text chat, so I could go back and see what she was saying LOL

I wish I could do a whole cake of this. It’s a winner fo sho and I think it’s going to age amazingly. Like me. But at least I am happy I got to try it, and for that I am grateful!

I want to drink tea & Skype with people!
I tried to set up a google groups tea drinking hangout, but it never happened…we’re all busy, nobody was available at the same time… :(

SarsyPie

Aaaaww! That is a bummer, Terri. We are in close time zones and are early birds, So we usually chat early on the weekend. How have things been going for you? I miss my Steepster peeps!

MzPriss

Terri! Yes please skype with us

Terri HarpLady

what are you gals doing right now? I’m just goofing off at my computer…

Terri HarpLady

I’m on Skype as terri.langerak

Terri HarpLady

sars, life has been good! Busy, but good. The recording project got cancelled, so I’m in full goof off mode now. No students until Jan 5th, & although I do want to get some things done between now & then…
“Like organize EVERYTHING”, Ms Theresa inserts,
I also NEED to just sit around with tea, catch up with my steepster friends, & really just relax for a few days. Maybe monday I’ll start trying to accomplish something. :)

MzPriss

I just went to get a rock tumbler but I’m home now

MzPriss

And I just sent you an add thingie

I have a sample from Yunnan Sourcing. I’m not 100% sure that it’s the same tea, but I’m too lazy to add a separate entry right now. If it’s wrong, LMK and I will move the review.

ANYWAYS, this was a sample from my lovely MzPriss. I’m digging it lots. I am in my tea nook, so I’m using water that’s just under boiling. No fermentation ughy flavors here. I’m on a pretty serious tea probation after my Verdant shenanigans, but I would really love a brick of this.

Smooth, leathery, slightly cool finish, a little toasted wood. It’s campfirey! I wish I had s’mores now.

boychik

I loved this one so much that a brick coming my way. I’m getting it fr YS, don’t want to take any chances fr other sources

AllanK

Who put you on probation?

SarsyPie

boychik – I am enjoying it, but I just don’t know about the cost…
AllanK – I did. I have more tea than I’ll drink in the next several years. So I am trying to only buy samples and then just pick up the few things I love. I went overboard with Verdant tho for CM. The sale was just too good…

AllanK

How strong was the aged flavor? Sometimes it can be like bamboo and very strong.

boychik

Allan, I didn’t get any bamboo flavor. For me it was strong dried persimmons. And strong cha qi

boychik

Sarcy, I think it’s $75

boychik

I think I saw it somewhere cheaper but really don’t want to take any chances. storage could be different. It may not be the same

SarsyPie

I may get a sample from DTH and see how it compares to the one sold from YS

AllanK

DTH sells it for 17.99. I doubt it can be the same tea unless YS is overcharging.

SarsyPie

Yeah, seems unlikely. I want to try it anyway tho :p

AllanK

Let us know how it is if you buy it. I am thinking about putting in an order with DTH so maybe I will buy a sample but I think I want to put in a Puerhshop order first. They have a LBZ that I want to try for about $80.

AllanK

I did not remember that I have drank this tea. My review is right on the tea page. I honestly don’t remember buying it. I think I bought a sample but am unsure.

AllanK

I have the one from DTH.

Yum. I haven’t been drinking lots of young sheng lately, but I did enjoy this one.

On a side note, how are y’all? I’ve been busy with work, so I haven’t been lurking as much, but I am subscribed to several discussion notifications, so I feel like I am still in the loop, kinda. I at least see what my tea friends are up to. <3

Mmmmm lucky gal! Need to make an order with these guys soooon

SarsyPie

You do! Such great teas!!!

Dexter

Looking for recommendations…. is there anything that is a MUST try Sars…..?

SarsyPie

Yes Dex!!!! The 2005 Naka is my fave. Sadly it’s very pricey, but you should try it. Amazing tea!!!! Repave is an excellent tea with a lovely Qi. The Little Yellow Mark is a good one too. These are my 3 faves from White2. :)

AllanK

I have a sample of the 2005 Naka that I bought with my last order. I am waiting for a day where I can afford the caffeine to steep it 12 times or so before I try it. If I really like it I may splurge and buy a bing.

Dexter

Thanks Sars!!!! Will take a look at those. :))
