I’ve been drinking this for 2 nights now. Tonight I’m having this for dessert with a taro mochi. It’s pretty much your typical chai, and it has no medicinal rooibos flavor.

I’m a tea newbie, and this was my first wild-picked sheng to try.
I feel very unqualified to judge here, as I’m still getting used to the taste in general.
Brewing as directed on the package made the tea extremely bitter for me. Next I tried pseudo- gongfu with my ingenuitea with 10 sec rinse followed by 30 sec steep. There was still a bit of bitterness, so I’m thinking a 5 sec max steep would work. I’m not giving up on this tea!!

If you’re finding the bitterness overwhelming, you could try aging this for a few months. It ages quite fast, actually. I believe this tea is no more than 3 months old :)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

You could also try dropping the temperature to 160ºF :)

Thank you so much for the tips! I was hesitant to post anything, but I really hoped that I would get some tips. I will definitely try that.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Oh no worries! I am grateful that you didn’t rate it though :)

I am actually playing around with it right now and 160º for 10 second steeps seems to produce zero bitterness…but I also have a high bitterness tolerance I’ve noticed :/ haha

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Here’s a short aging guide if you decide to age it. This tea shows great promise for aging and will change quite a bit over the next 6-9 months. http://lifethroughthepines.blogspot.com/2014/03/aging.html

Thanks again! I’m getting out my thumbtacks!… But I’m going to try it at 160 in the morning

Saradiann

It worked! Tea tastes great this morning

Cheri

I haven’t tried this one yet. I was thinking about trying it today, depending on how hectic things get.

Yummy maltomeal goodness! I may have to start making this my go-to breakfast tea. I love it black prepared as the package instructs, but I may have to put some honey and milk in there to transport me back to those childhood breakfasts.
I think it was teafairy who said this was total pudding mouth…. And I get it now!

Total pudding mouth :-)

Holy wow! I received a sample of this tea and decided to give it a try after having some problems trying to brew the WP arbor mist version.
I followed the package instructions by using boiling water, 10 second rinse followed by 5 second steeps in my ingenuitea.
I’m still getting used to the flavor, but the sheng feeling is great! My tongue got a little bit tingly there for a bit!
I definitely have to try brewing the arbor mist the same way.

Oh this was so tasty, especially after my extreme newbie experience with the ye sheng that I ruined this afternoon!
I just HAD to get the bitterness off of my tongue from that debacle, so I did add agave and milk after my first sip. …. Ah, the newbie shame!

Lol, don’t beat yourself over that sheng experience, you’ll get other opportunities :-)

Saradiann

Thanks! I’m waiting on a little teapot to arrive so I can do a proper gongfu session. That stuff really tasted like poison after brewing 2 min in my ingenuitea.

I was extremely pumped to try this tea. I love it, but I’m not getting the apricot or pluot flavor that others taste.
I know it’s not proper, but I drank the second steep with milk and agave syrup just for kicks, and it was a delicious cup! It tastes vanilla/mocha/malty to me.

Boiling 1 min, 45 sec 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

My Sunday afternoon pick me up. Not sure why this is called big red robe….. Better look that up…
I’m not tasting any flavors at all. I used the recommended amounts of tea and water…
Will reevaluate later

I actually drank this again last night before bed. I loved it so much that I got online and ordered more before falling asleep…..
I had forgotten that I already ordered some from whispering pines….
Oh well…. ;-)

Terri HarpLady

Sounds like you were doing some of that ‘sleep tea ordering’ that we were taking about the other day.

drank Thai Chai by Adagio Teas

Received as part of the chai sampler. It’s funny that it is described as having chicken soup flavor. My first thought when I started drinking this was that it tastes like my favorite soup from our local Thai restaurant. I wouldn’t describe it as savory, though, and I enjoyed it with milk and honey

3 min, 45 sec 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Cream by Adagio Teas

This is my first cup of cream. It’s a nice breakfast tea. My only complaint is that the leaves are really broken up so that they make it through my filter.
Otherwise, I will definitely drink this again and again.

New to tea. I am a milk and sugar coffee drinker, so I’m slowly adjusting to drinking tea without such adulterations.
So far I love Darjeeling and high mountain oolong.
