1184 Tasting Notes
Yep, tried steeping it at a lower temp than recommended again and it works so much better.
Now this tea tastes smooth and I am definitely getting the hot chocolate notes in it, not a full on hot chocolate but a light, nice, smooth one!
Upping the rating a little.
Citrus and jasmine—-I never would have paired these!
I haven’t tried this before because I was concerned about the lemon being overpowering.
It was actually a good balance of flavours.
1st steep: (94*, 4 min) good balance of lemon and jasmine, light oolong flavour in the background
2nd steep: (96*, 5 min) the lemon isn’t as strong, the jasmine is still there, with a little more oolong coming through (my favourite steep)
3rd steep: (boiling, 7 min) not enough jasmine left for me to still enjoy it as much.
Still to come: cold brewed (like so many of my other teas)
Yum! It was very creamy and refreshing. I was suprised by the amount of creaminess in this tea! That pretty much sums it up!
Speaking of refreshing, I will have to try this cold-brewed or maybe as a popsicle!
2nd steep: (less than boiling, 10min) less creamy, but still ok
I love this tea! It does have a nice creaminess, without adding any milk to it. I actually have never had it with milk and wonder what that would taste like? I do find the flavour of the second steep to be much diminished, sadly, even when I use fresh hot water and let it steep for an extra few minutes. It’s still very good, but not as good as the first pot. Overall it’s one of my favourite teas, and I’m looking forward to trying it this summer during the 30-40 Celsius weather!
Aroma: orangey in the bag, more caramel when steeped.
Taste: I was very suprised by this blend. I got 50g as a gift and would never have bought that much for myself. The first couple of times I had it, it was bitter. I learned to keep the steeping time shorter and it is less bitter with less of a weird cinnamon taste.
I like the dark caramel taste with the small hint of orange and cinnamon.
Just make sure you steep more toward the 4 minute mark rather than the 6 minutes.
Not sure yet what I think about this tea, it is more cinnamon-y than I thought it would be and less floral. It is not a bad tea.
I decided to try a 2nd steeping and liked it much better. It got rid of some of the strong cinnamon taste and brought out the floral notes more. But, I steeped the first steeping too long I guess (4 min) because the 2nd steeping is a little weak.
Next time I will steep for only 2-3 minutes and then do a 2nd steep and see how that turns out!
It took me a long time to try this tea because I was really unsure of popcorn in tea. I am glad I did!
Aroma: sweet caramel popcorn
Tea: smooth sweet caramel popcorn! I steeped this for 5 min, and it was a little bit light on the green tea taste but I really didn’t mind at all because it is so good!
2nd steep: almost boiling water for 8min, it was a little too weak for my liking. If I was going to do a second steep again, I would have to shorten the first steep. Not sure if I would resteep or not or just increase my steeping time to 6.5 minutes and only enjoy once. I will try to shorten the first steep next time and see how I like it.
Anyway, I just got a very small amount of this tea, but I will be stocking up soon I am sure!
So, I decided to try something different. An employee had suggested some time ago to try this as an iced latte.
I find I like the flavour of most teas cold-brewed rather than iced, so I gave this a try.
I cold-brewed 2-3 tsp of Forever nuts for about 18 hours in the fridge in 1 cup of water. I added 0.5 cup of milk.
It was pretty good, a nice treat, but I like it hot plain, with milk, or with eggnog better.
So I decided to try experimenting with this tea a tad bit. The package states to steep this at 98degrees but I thought that it might be scorching the white leaves.
So, I let the water cool off about 2 minutes after boiling and tried it that way.
I got a lot more of the chocolate flavour steeping it this way! Yum…
I am not going to increase the rating at this time because I want to try it once more steeped this way.
This is one of my fav’s from Davids!
Thank you so much for the lower heat time. I heated my water to 185 degrees/85 and steeped for 6 minutes. I get the chocolate and caramel flavors and the flavors are very much prominent more than at the hot suggested temperatures.
