From The Tea Spot

Our best selling green tea! This blend of fine Japanese Sencha and high grade Chinese Dragonwell combine to create a rich yet refreshing base, while wild strawberries and rhubarb flavors add a subtle twist. This tea yields a bright liquor with a luxurious aroma and brisk, vivid flavor. The ideal accompaniment to dark chocolate.

As a couple other reviewers have mentioned, this just doesn’t do it for me (hot, anyway). I like my green tea to be green tea, and Boulder Blues is just totally out of balance if you’re expecting any green tea character to shine through. Sweet, overpowering rhubarb at the front, blueberry on the back. It’s an interesting one-two punch but definitely not my choice for a morning cup.

I wonder why this got bad reviews. I get the flavors fine. But then again, there might be something I’m missing. I taste the sencha and dragon well mingling well and sweetly, which is an awesome thing since those are the only two green teas I’d constantly drink anyway. The rhubarb and strawberry sweeten this so nicely and make it incredibly natural and fresh. I’m so glad I picked up a sample. The flowers are also a visual delight. I was able to steep it up to three times. So classic, so enjoyable.

I was underwhelmed by this one. The smell of the dry tea was great (very fruity), as was the smell of the teacups after we had finished the tea (they smelled sort of like Virgil’s cream soda), but the taste of the tea itself was rather weak. I could tell that it was vaguely fruity, but neither the taste of the tea nor the taste of the fruit was strong enough. I don’t like most flavored teas, with a few notable exceptions (like Earl Grey), partly because I love the taste of tea, and I find that the other flavors often overwhelm the taste of the tea. Here, though I feel like both the tea and the fruit underwhelmed each other. My wife enjoyed it, but it was just missing something for me. Oh, and it was difficult to get the smell out of my French press (as is the case with many flavored teas). I just wish I liked the taste as much as I liked the smell.

I got this one from carol who in a mini swap. It’s sweet and slightly tart. I like it. I don’t have a lot to say about it. It’s not overwhelming, but it’s nice. I placed an order with The Tea Spot just before I tried this (I meant to try it before I ordered, but my brain isn’t quite 100% right now with this blah I’ve got going on) and I completely forgot. It worked out okay because I don’t think I would ordered this, but it was nice to try.

The second steep wasn’t quite as sweet or tart, but it was still there.

I’ve always been a fan of the combination of strawberry and rhubarb, it reminds me of my grandfather who always made strawberry rhubarb pie when the berries were fresh in the garden. I’ve never had the combination in a tea before and I’m not sure that I would order it again, it was pretty artificial tasting. The dry leaf smelled overwhelmingly sweet, which wasn’t all that surprising, if you’ve ever had rhubarb before then you know just how bitter it is, so I was expecting something really sweet to compensate, but this was a little much for me. I will that that I enjoyed this much more at room temperature than hot, perhaps it would have made a better cold steep.

I would like to thank The Tea Spot for sending me this free sample

Actually, I believe you’ve also had Butiki’s Ruby Pie :-)

Short Sorceress

You’re absolutely right, I only had enough for one cup so I completely forgot about it.

I got this as a free sample so at least I’m not out of any money. The name of this tea is a turn off…I hate Colorado, let alone Boulder, so…When I opened the pouch, I was excited…it didn’t look like much beyond dried grass shavings with some purplish fronds mixed in, but it smelled just like strawberry Bubble Yum! I couldn’t wait to steep and taste! Granted, the loose tea unfurled beautifully and looked quite pretty, but my excitement waned as soon as it hit the mug. The delicious aroma disappeared and the tea resembles old pee. The taste, super light and unremarkable. I didn’t even want to waste any sweetener on it. Not knocked out, not disappointed. I’d drink this again if I absolutely had to, but I’d never buy it.

The label says “gourmet green tea” but it has many non-tea ingredients. Should state on the front that it is a very floral infusion.

Also, I’ve found it impossible to brew without a bitter, almost acrid, aftertaste. The aroma is fruity and wonderful, but the aftertaste is unpleasant.
