drank Genmaicha by DAVIDsTEA

Genmaicha was one of my go to teas for years and years until I discovered DAVIDsTEA. I used to purchase my genmaicha from the asian grocery stores (250g for $6-7) and I didn’t think it tasted any different than the DAVIDsTEA version. The only big difference between the two is that the grocery store version contains twigs and branches from the tea plant while DAVIDsTEA doesn’t.

The look and taste of the two are very similar. When steeped, the tea is a light green colour…almost yellow. The taste is similar to freshly popped popcorn (without the butter of course!). It’s still a go to if I want a straight tea.

The colour of the tea is really dark. My first sip was a little taken back. I taste a lot of smokiness in this tea…almost like Lapsang Souchong. Nothing on the label mentions smokiness so I was caught by surprise. The smell from the bag didn’t indicate any of that either.

drank Coffee Pu'erh by DAVIDsTEA

I am not a coffee fan. Keep that in mind. The colour of this tea came out to a really dark colour, the same as coffee (obviously). I have tried coffee before, so I know what to expect. This tea gave a light version of coffee without the bitterness. I am not a fan unfortunately, but I gave it to my boyfriend who loves coffee, so he might like it :)

I guess you can categorize this as a standard black tea. I found this tea to be sweet, like DAVIDsTEA Nepal Black tea. I enjoyed the lighter taste that I get. It’s not bitter at all and has a nice fruity smell attached. It remains neutral with me—mainly because I am not a huge black tea fan. However, don’t let my opinion sway you away from this tea. If I were to recommend a black tea, this would be one of them!

Not an earl grey fan, but I didn’t find this tea too terrible. What I really liked was the citrus note to make this tea nicer to drink. I don’t have much to say about this one lol

I found this tea to be really confusing. I didn’t really get a chocolate taste out of it. This tastes like Chinese five spice powder, which I don’t like unfortunately. It has the licorice, sweet, spicy taste that tries to make up a chocolate taste. My tastebuds unfortunately don’t like it and it’s not going to be a repurchase for me.

I have 10 g of this but haven’t tried it yet because, despite the chocolate in the name, it’s not calling to me! I find it really odd/interesting that the ingredients list carob and no chocolate. Carob doesn’t taste much like chocolate at all to me though my parents used to try to get me to like it as a chocolate alternative (health nut parents).

I know what you mean. The sales rep at DAVIDsTEA kinda felt the same about the tea as well. It’s a weird blend.

Wow, wow, wow. Smelling this tea in its tin/bag was absolutely amazing. It was described to me as fruitcake in a cup. Sort of, depending on the fruitcake ha! My mom usually makes her own and it’s close enough.

The flavours came out nice and smooth, sweet and citrusy—which I like. You can pick up on all the added pieces to the tea and overall this tea is one of the best ones I’ve tried. It is adding itself to be on my to buy list!

I can’t believe that DAVIDsTEA is getting me to try new things…and I am loving it! First it was chocolate, but now it’s peppermint!

Smelling this tea in the bag was heavenly. I really enjoyed the sweet smell against the fruity note of the black tea. It definitely did smell like candy canes. Upon first steep, I picked up on a lot of the strong black tea. I was just a tad disappointed because I was hoping for more of a pepperminty taste than robust. Regardless, I still got a faint taste of candy canes alongside the strong flavour of the tea. I found that the tea started to taste better as it cooled down significantly.

I tried it again for a second steep but with unlimited steeping time and I found that it tastes a lot better than the first one. It’s much lighter, the peppermint flavour is faint at this point, but it seems great for a light tea if you want something lighter.

Meh. For some reason I taste soap. That’s the only thing I can really say about it unfortunately.

The taste and smell of this tea is fairly consistent. I can’t pick up on the vanilla, but I can pick up a bit of cinnamon. Drinking this tea reminds me of eating delicious mint dark chocolate :)
