drank Dublin Cream by Teaopia

I found this to be pleasant, though I admit, it’s been many months since I last had any. I had picked some up to take to a friend as a gift, but…well, I pilfered a small amount to test, you know, for quality and such. I think it was pretty smooth, and not too strong in either direction. It wasn’t an explosion in my mouth of WOW! but sometimes I dig the milder and smoother tea blends.

For a bagged green tea, I have to say, it is some darn fine genmaicha! I used to take this to work with me, due to it being easier to use there than loose leaf, and I never had a bitter cup, even if I forgot about it and over-steeped it, and that’s saying something! Green tea, if not brewed properly, can get quite bitter. I haven’t found this locally, and I admit that I do prefer loose leaf, but I’d buy this again.

drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

I tried this in a more latte style (nuked a little milk for 1:20 and used more tea and less water to steep), and well, it’s just ok…it is so mild tasting, but in accepting this tea for what it is, rather than what it isn’t (it isn’t very chai, but it is sorta pumpkin spice), it is fine. It is not offensive to the tastebuds…but not terribly stimulating either. Now this isn’t necessarily bad in my book. There is a sort of comfort with this…mild, creamy, and sweet isn’t always bad. I think I might see how Teaopia’s Pumpkin Spice is in comparison. This was the last of this bag. I don’t know if I will repurchase. I might try the Carrot Cake instead, or…just hoard some more Buttercream. ;)

drank Movie Night by DAVIDsTEA

I’m a bit undecided if I actually like this tea. It was my first tea from DAVIDs, on suggestion from a friend who was having some Genmai Cha when my DH and I met up with her for lunch on her recent visit out here…I mentioned that I loved Genmai Cha as well, and she told me about DAVIDs and Movie Night. I told her we had just gotten a DAVIDs here (she used to live here in Victoria but lives in Toronto now). Anyway, back to the tea…

Pros
-It smells wonderful.
-It tastes great.

Cons
-It tastes nothing like what I’d expect. I got absolutely no popcorn taste at all, and additionally, I got very little green tea flavour either. I got maple and apple all the way, and thought I was drinking a tisane/herbal tea.
-There is very little actual green tea in the blend…it is take up mostly with the popcorn and apple.

This tasted nice chilled…very light and refreshing, like crisp apple juice. I have been told that the steeping time, and amount of tea used, greatly affects the taste. As of yet, I have not been compelled to try more, as I am too busy trying other teas instead, and have found some Holy Grail teas (MUST stock up on Buttercream before it’s gone!). Maybe if it is still around come next spring or summer, I’ll get some again and play with the steeping times.

Not my favourite. I think it might have been more suited as an iced tea, but something was just rubbing me the wrong way, and I suspect it was the stevia in it. I can’t handle sucralose and other sugar substitutes/replacements well, and I suspect the same is with stevia. I took it back and got some Secret Weapon and The Skinny.

I don’t like this. It smells wonderful, and this is the tea I got the most of with my birthday teas, and it is the one I like the least. That said, I learned that I can bring it back and exchange it. Anyhow, the reason I don’t like it, is because it seems too fragrant and floral, almost perfume-y, and I don’t like to drink perfume. Also, it bothers my head a bit.

Well, I’ve only had a few brews of this, but I’m not sure whether I like this or not. I don’t dislike it though. It’s on the mild side, I think. I like ginger, orange, and oolong, but I am not sure I like the orange and ginger together. I think I might like this as an iced tea though.

drank Toasted Walnut by DAVIDsTEA

This is one awesome tea (!), and I am so grateful to the SA that showed it to me, as I would never have thought to try it on its own. It was recommended to me as I had mentioned I love Genmai Cha. I love the fruity and nutty flavours of the Toasted Walnut, and I love that it is light, but hearty at the same time. I know that sounds weird, but it is a similar feel as with the Genmai Cha…I guess it is the starch from the rice in the Genmai that makes it feel hearty, but the green tea feels light…so maybe it is the walnuts that offer a similar feel to the Toasted Walnut tea. I don’t care what it is, I just know I NEED MORE!!! For the record, I have found that this tea blends well with Happy Kombucha and works well chilled or iced as well as hot. Drink this tea my friends, and you will be happy!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I need to get a huge tin of this before it’s gone and hoard it. It is by far my favourite tea from DAVIDs thus far (a few are close ties though). I’ve never had milk with a white tea before, but I guess there is a first time for everything. This really is much better and creamy that way. I’m tempted to up the amount and steep it in milk straight. This tea just makes me so happy though. :)

This one literally reminds me of my Mother’s buttercream icing… YUMMMMM!!

Wow oh wow wowie! Can I just say that this tea makes me feel all warm and cozy inside? I love the chocolate/raspberry/almond blend and the chicory adds a depth of flavor that is more robust like coffee, without being coffee. I only had a small amount of it to try, but I will repurchase, and I’ll see how the mate is in terms of energy. This is my first mate tea, and I didn’t really pay attention to my energy when I had it before…I just adored the taste, and it is really good with vanilla soy or almond milk. I plan to buy a Timolino travel mug/infuser and try taking this to work and see how it goes. Oh, and for the record, this blend is similar to Love Potion #7 (I think that’s what it is called) and I actually like this better, for the sake of the almonds and chicory adding an extra dimension of flavour.

I generally like a lot of tea. I do find I have a preference for flavored over unflavoured, but I do love a good straight tea as well.

Likes are too hard, since there are a lot. Dislikes are easier, so here they are…

Hibiscus. Blech. I can tolerate a little, depending on the brew, like Berry Good from Davids and Ruby Pie from Butiki…but in general, it’s too tart and too strong for me.

Licorice. Anything that remotely resembles licorice is out too, so that includes fennel and anise. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Florals. I’m cool with petals in the tea to make them look pretty (except rose), and I’m cool with teas like oolongs having a floral note, but strong florals can give me migraines. Rose and jasmine are the biggest offenders. This is one where it can vary on the blend, as I can handle Teavivre’s Peach Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea because there is very little jasmine actually detectable in it.

Rooibos is hit or miss. I can do some, but not others. I handle green better than red, and honeybush better than rooibos.

My ratings don’t have a particular scale or method, and may on occasion contradict themselves, but I’m honestly not fussed about that. Sometimes I don’t even rate at all.

Um, I have an extensive wishlist. It is both a list of things I want to get again, and things I want to try. If you are sending me something, and you want to know which is which, I’ll tell you via PM.

Yes, I do trades…usually on request though. See something you want to try in my cupboard? Just shoot me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

Uh, guess that’s it.
