Trying to get rid of this one.

Today it turned out bitter.
It certainly has potential to be a perfectly acceptable cup of tea, but I feel like I’ve had a Monk’s Blend from another company that I liked better.

Lowering my rating from 83… at this point I’m just ready for this one to reach sipdown status. I still consider it a “flavoured tea” – mysterious or not. I’m not so keen on these anymore.

A sample from Janelle!

I have all but given up on DTT, but this one just sounded too good to be true, so I asked to try a bit.

Surprisingly, I guess, since I haven’t enjoyed a DTT in a long time (used to love them, but my tastes have evolved, clearly)… i did like this!

It was a half decent dessert tea. Definitely had the artificial flavouring thing going on but it was still a nice cup in the afternoon.

Caramel and spicy pumpkin and marshmallow are 3 flavours that I am down with. Mini marshmallows included!

Doubtful that I would purchase this, but I am glad I got to try it. It’s been awhile, but in my mind I would say it’s as good as Davidstea’s Pumpkin Chai…maybe better.

Thanks Janelle!

Sipdown of an older sample, I believe it came from Courtney but I could be wrong!

Made this at work yesterday, enjoyed the inclusion of a big blackberry in the bag!

I may have steeped a bit too long. I haven’t tried too much guayasa in my life, I think it has a bit of a planty taste. Not sure I dug it. I could see how the blackberry lime might be an interesting combination, but this is not a Butiki tea that I mourn the loss of. Thankfully, because that list is already long enough. If I dedicated 5 minutes per tea to cry about every day, I’d be crying forever.

Thanks the the sample, Courtney! (?)

Dustin

I don’t think I like guayusa very much. I keep getting this cigar ash taste and I think it might make my tongue slightly itchy. Weird, right?

ohfancythat

Yeah, it was too oddly planty for me. Not planty in a good fresh green tea sort of way. Just – odd.

Courtney

Oh dear, I loooove this one hah. But I’m glad you got to try it at least!

TeaNTees

This one sounds very interesting. I have a fondness for guayusa, but I can see how it may not appeal to everyone.

I’ve been drinking this at work lately, but I haven’t yet reached the amazing mindblowing cup that I had the first time I made this tea and rated it 94. I may need to experiment a bit more, good thing I bought a whole tin.

I feel like in my mind I preferred the Harney and Sons version, but sadly that one isn’t as easy or cheap for me to get in Canada.

Sooooooo I went with this one.

I think the first time I had it, I used the entire sample pouch for one cup, which made it extra potent and delicious. I made it yesterday at work in my gravity steeper, the whole sample pouch (i had a couple left), and did 2 steeps. They were delicious, but not quite as amazing as the first time.

Of course, being at work, the tea got cold as I wasn’t able to drink it all at once, and I did notice it went through phases… hot tea obviously not as easy to pick out flavours. Then it cooled a bit and I got a weird hint of cinnamon. Then at the end when it was pretty much cold it was different again.

I will be playing with this in the future when I can sit down and pay attention!
For now I am lowering my rating just a tad, even though it’s still a yummy tea.

Yup, yummy. My professional opinion.

sipdown!

One more review for this one, from the resteep i had last night.

Surprisingly tasty, to the point where I’d actually consider buying it again! I think I like this sort of oolong over the roasty type.

This was really delicious and slightly floral and a very enjoyable cup. I wonder if a similar tea would exist from a company that is more readily available… hmmmmmmmmm

Drank this one last night – it was at least a 2 year old sample (oops), but given the fact that it’s a straight green oolong, I was a bit hesitant.

I went for it, and really overleafed to use it up, which made for a pretty potent cup even though I did a short steep.

I was surprised that I actually enjoyed it! It’s a nice natural tasting floral green oolong, but not OVERLY flowery.

I will probably do my resteep tonight.
Sorry I waited so long!

And thanks to Shmiracles for sending it along, a million years ago :)

The flavours in this are pretty true to form, but I’m not sure it’s the tea for me. I find it a bit bitter – too grapefruity I suppose.

Maybe someone will want to trade me for Praline or Pistachio Horizon ;)

Plunkybug

I gave some of mine to Bear With Me and he was ecstatic…he kept sniffing it when i gave it to him with his other surprise package.

I think I can officially say I’m over DTT.
I decided to keep this one in my stash 10 months ago, but I made it today at work when a dessert craving struck me and my observations are as follows:

- even though i used a TON of leaf, it’s still weak in flavour and colour after i added some milk.
- whatever black tea base DTT uses, I don’t like it. And all of their black teas have that weird taste. yuck.

I had rated this 86 once upon a time, but I’m just going to remove the rating. This tea is 2 years old.

It still SMELLS amazing, however. I bet some people would still love it. I have just moved beyond.

If anyone wants the rest to try, it’s YOURS!

Sil

i had it narrowed down to only really liking the lime/lemon and orange chiffon teas…the rest i can live without…and given i haven’t placed an order with them in forever…guess that means i can live without.

Fjellrev

This is the only one from them that I have left, and thought worthwhile keeping around, so I hope my tastes haven’t changed or it’s lost a lot of flavour. Damn.

sample sipdown!

Finished off the lot of this sample sent to by from Nattie – I decided to dump the rest of the package into the Adagio ingenuiTEA that my husband got me for Christmas.

This resulted in a much stronger, very flavorful cuppa. Really noticable chocolate and coffee notes, along with the requisite spices.
I added 10% cream, of course. I don’t know that I’m the biggest proponent of chai tea, but with dairy, it’s a nice once in a while treat.

I may have let it steep too long and it became slightly bitter, and gave me a bit of a dry mouth, but overall this is a chai I enjoyed. That’s actually saying a lot, trust me.

Thanks again Nattie!

Drinking this as I type.

I need to bump my numerical rating up from 77, because I suspect when my bag is empty, there will be days I get all wistful whilst rocking gently on my imaginary rocking chair, in my imaginary front porch, reminiscing about the crazy delightful espresso melon tea that the now nonexistant amazing tea company called Butiki made, once upon a time, in the good ol’ days.

(Check back for that tasting note… in like 3 months when my bag is gone, assuming I can drag out the crushing goodbye process that long :))

PS I AM GETTING MY HAIR DID TONIGHT! BIG CHANGES IN STORE! AHHHH!

Hello!

I love tea. I love my mini-me daughter, my husband, my dog Wally, Netflix, shopping, and tea. Some other stuff too, but these are the most important!

Some favourites -

My new favourite tea company is A Quarter to Tea. I love the flavouring used and how it doesn’t seem fake, and the combinations are so delicious. Right up my alley.

My favourite teas are black, I love Laoshan Black and Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black tea from TTC. Also many of Teavivre’s black teas.

Butiki teas RIP, I loved how the flavours were subtle and not fake tasting and didn’t overwhelm the tea base. Trust that I am dramatically mourning the loss of this company!

Teavivre, Whispering Pines and Mariage Freres are some more tea companies I appreciate. Along with Davidstea as it was the ‘gateway drug’ to my tea addiction. Though I’m mostly over it now, I’ve definitely moved on from the artificially flavoured teas and am trying more quality straight teas!

My ultimate goal is to try as many French teas as possible – and to finally find a source in Canada for Mariage Freres so I can buy Wedding Imperial, and Black Orchid for sure.

I would like to try any Taiwanese Assams that exist in the world!

Also continuously on the hunt for Fauchon – La Naissance. If anyone has some of this I would pay for it!!! It’s my number one all time favourite tea.

When I rate, it goes like this:

85 -100 = WIN! awesome, I love this and keep it on hand
70 – 85 = pretty darn good but I don’t NEED to own it
55 – 70 = not necessarily terrible but not a tea for me!
30 – 55 = missed the mark as far as I am concerned. Wouldn’t drink it willingly.
0 – 30 = I likely won’t rate this low very often, so if you see it, consider the tea a great big FAIL and probably disgusting.
