652 Tasting Notes
Evidently I’m losing my everloving mind because I guess I never reviewed this either, even though I’ve had it a while and drank it several times. OOPS.
Anyway, I made this after the great Caramel Cream green tea debaucle. It’s interesting to me how much more forgiveable a green oolong is compared to green tea.
I was NOT picky about this yet it turned out just fine. So much better than the bitter disgustingness of the last tea.
It’s sweet caramel over the roasty oolong base.
The leaves looked very pretty after they all unfurled in my gravity steeper.
I liked this. Not sure I would buy more, but I will drink what I have left.
Also – I’ve been postively starving all day. STARVING!!!!!!
So I didn’t review this one either!? WEIRD.
Anyway, tried to make a mug this afternoon but I think I overleafed (trying to sipdown) and also used too hot water.
I tried to drink it but it was seriously KILLING my tongue with its horrendous bitterness. I know I can’t blame the tea for my carelessness.
I used to like this a lot. But at this point I’m ready to move along.
I had to dump it out. Sorry, tea.
Odd, I was sure I rated this one before but it’s not showing up. Steepster’s eating my notes again!
I made this at the end of the day yesterday, my second time having it.
I reached the conclusion that it’s not a favourite of mine, though I do appreciate the chance to try it!
1) I guess I’m not much of a chai fan, but when I drink chai (albeit rarely), I want the strong black tea base so I can add milk and really make it a dessert. This is an herbal.
2) I am starting to realize that the only herbal teas I truly care for (aside from cacao obviously) are the fruity ones that I make iced tea with in the summer. Not so much to drink on a regular basis.
3) Something about this seemed kind of metallic, it left a weird taste in my mouth and slightly numbed my tongue. Maybe the ginger, but I really enjoy ginger and I’ve never noticed that happen before.
4) something about the smell of the tea was offputting to me… every time I took a sip I caught a whiff of this sort of sour note.
5) I didn’t really get any coconut from this!
It’s not a bad tea, I just think it’s not for me. But drinking it twice helped me redefine my tea tastes, so I can’t complain about that!!
But surely you can see why I wouldn’t want this tea to be my 600th tasting note, even though I drank it yesterday, prior to the one I actually used for my 600th tasting note.
I have some left if anyone would like to try it :)
Thanks to Anlina for sending me this in the Secret Santa swap!
TASTING NOTE # 600!
I wanted to drink a worthwhile tea for my 600th. So I brought this to work today for round 2.
I am wondering if maybe my gravity steeper still had a bit of the taste of yesterday’s (not my fave) tea in it, even though I rinsed it… because I seemed to enjoy this more when I made it at home.
This time it had a bit of a metallic zing to it. Strange.
I suspect though, in my mind I’m comparing it to the Yuchi Mountain Black, also from TTC, even though they’re two different teas. And let’s get real – nothing compares to that.
This had a bit of a honey note in it, but not as fruity as I recall.
I didn’t pay attention whatsoever to steeping time, and I also used the kettle at work and made it with what I can assume is whatever “boiling point” a cheapo kettle reaches.
I will try again at home.
Not quite the exciting 600th tasting note I was hoping for! Ah well :)
Evidently I’ve reviewed this before… hm.
Another old sample from Shmiracles that I waited ridiculously too long to try!
It smells delicious in the bag, I decided to go for it and just use the rest of my leaf up. I was too lazy to check steeping parameters and I may have shot myself in the foot.
I went 180 degrees for 2 minutes, and it turned out very bitter. I actually ended up dumping half the cup out. I wish I would have checked first because it had potential to be tasty, based on the smell.
I’m sure age must be a factor also.
But yeah, super bitter with a hint of berries.
SCHMEH.
EDIT I just checked the parameters used by others and HUZZAH i didn’t screw it up! So it must just taste that way to me. Ah well. Another sample bites the dust!
I’ve drank this a few times without logging it, I think that’s because though I enjoyed it, it wasn’t a super STAND OUT type of tea.
The flavours are tasty, the cinnamon is the sort I enjoy in tea, natural – not a fake hot candy heart sort of taste.
The cinnamon, vanilla and squash notes all work well together. It wasn’t super squashy. I kind of thought it might have more of a hearty sweet potato sort of feel to it, but it’s a very light note.
I think I would have preferred something heavier in terms of the squash. But nonetheless I will enjoy what I have left of this tea!
Weirrrrrrrrrrrrd……….. I’m like 97% sure I’ve reviewed this before, but it’s not showing up. STEEPSTER Y U EAT MY NOTES!?
I’ve had this one at work for awhile now, it’s one of my special happy place teas. Most of which are Butiki, admittedly.
It’s really a great blend of flavours. I love the smell and the taste and the fact that I only have MAYBE 2 cups max left makes me sad.
Made this for a mid-morning snack today. Funny, because everytime I would look in my tea stash box at work to decide what to make, I’d see this one – “Dark Horse”. Then inevitably get that awful (IMHO) Amanda Marshall light rock jam of the same name stuck in my head.
I went into the kitchen and there was an Amanda Marshall CD on the table .Like, wtf. Once in awhile people leave stuff in there free for others to take if they want it, like magazines, etc, but I’ve never seen a CD in there. And the chance of it being Amanda Marshall!? Crazy. It wasn’t the one with Dark Horse on it, though.
Anyway.
This is a strong brew. I didn’t let it steep super long but still had to add some 10% cream. Then had to go back to add more, because it was still super dark.
It is a tasty, bold, malty tea though. Just what I need on a Friday!
Happy my Secret Santa sent it to me!
Have you not been eating or food just can’t seem to satisfy that hunger?
