Very minty, but light on the lemon. I made a nice large pitcher out of this bag, with great results. I have been using it as my liquid base for my green smoothies all week and let me tell you, a hint of mint in a pina colada green smoothie is the tits.
When I wanted more of a lemon punch in the face, I added a slice of lemon to my glass as I drank it, and it proved to have much better results.
This was not my favorite out of the bunch, I know it would be more appreciated in the dog days of summer, with the icy mint flavor to cool me off. Nevertheless, this was a fun tea to sip on all day.

This is a wonderful and well made green tea. It’s smooth, slightly sweet and brothy, like eating freshly made kettle corn while drinking vegetable broth. Sounds like a good time to me!

I went a little crazy when I found out that What-cha has a bunch of Georgian Teas. I have a coworker/friend that is from Georgia, and I was super excited to see his home country well represented in What-cha’s offerings! So, of course, I bought them all :P All of them have been pretty great, I am not disappointed by any of them.

This one I got in a sample size, and it is one of the better ones I have tried. It’s warm and comforting, it’s got all the fresh baked bread and malt notes that I crave, as well as an ever so slightly sweet date note that really hits Da spot.

drank Coconut green by Zen Tea

Oh, this is really nice cold-brewed. I wish I had upped the leaf for this, but the toasty, creamy coconut is still really nice, albeit a little softer. Yummmm

Ooo… now I need to try cold steeping my pineapple green from Vital Tea Leaf. Thanks for the reminder! :)

drank Golden Grapefruit by Tea Guys
296 tasting notes

Cold brewed this one for work. This is one of my many sample sized teas I got from the tea guys a while back. I was hoping that this would be a good replacement for Butiki’s Grapefruit Dragon. It’s close, but it’s got none of that tongue numbing goodness.
I really shouldn’t compare, this is an ever so slightly different tea. I sense a more tropical take on grapefruit, with a hint of pineapple. The Chinese sencha is a really nice base, and the hue of the cold brew is a luminescent green. The dominant flavor is the grapefruit, but it is not as loud and fresh as Grapefruit Dragon. It’s slightly artificial tasting without being offensive. Well, I slorped this down really quickly, so it mustn’t have been that bad!

Flavors: Grapefruit, Green, Pineapple

Preparation
Iced 8 min or more

drank Keemun by Swan Sisters Tea
296 tasting notes

Another one of the poor forgotten Amoda subscription teas. While I would perhaps purchase a tea on their website, I think the forgotten samples from the actual subscription is proof that I need to chill on the monthly tea boxes.

Keemun is the first recognizably Chinese teas that I had. I never was that into white or black teas, especially from my teabag perspective years ago. I was strictly green and herbal, or maybe an oolong here and there. I remember picking up a Keemun somewhere in loose leaf form after reading about it. This was supposedly the ‘first’ Chinese black tea that had even the Chinese sitting up in attention? I was unimpressed by the lack of ‘wow’ factor. I think that is why I never like Chinese black tea until I found the wonders of a golden tipped Yunnan or Fujian.
That also may be why I looked at this package for my February box and went, ‘eh.’ and tossed it in the sea of samples. I went fishing this morning for something different and found this.
Ah, yep. It’s all coming back to me. That light hint of smokiness, that deep dark brew. The thick bold aroma. Definitely a kick in the pants tea! Somewhere I get a heady punch in the face of floral, like biting off an entire rose while in bloom.
Pretty much every Chinese black I have had was better.

I keep forgetting about my Amoda tea subscription! I have last month’s stashed away somewhere and you know how that goes, “out of sight, out of mind.”
I don’t know why I picked this one first. It would probably be last on my list of the subscription teas to try. When I started my tea journey, I thought that Jasmine tea was the shit. The pinnacle of refinement. Along the way, I think either I just drank too much of it, or had some bad teabags along the way, but jasmine tea just lost it’s oomph with me.
While i’ve had better teas, this is a nice TBT tea for the day. I liked that Sloane used Clouds and Mist as the base green. It’s smooth yet brassy. Slightly grassy. I don’t have a third rhyme, but I vaguely enjoyed this tea!

Who knew it’d really enjoy something that tastes like liquid corn pops? This was an enjoyable tea to drink grandpa style at work. I go the “Discover Korea” set as well as the higher grade of Korean green tea. I wanted to sample them all in the spring, and before What-Cha’s ‘best before’ date. Now that spring has sprung, I have been sipping my way through the grades. Hooray for Green Tea week! Post now up on the blog:

(My first post on SS ever! Wooooooot!)

Hmmm, I wonder what theme I should do for next week?

Nabbed this sample from it’s hiding place today to drink while at work! The label say’s it’s from MissB originally, but I go this in my swap with Roswell Strange. Thanks to both of you!
Now, I am not too familiar with quince, but I am getting a sort of pear-like quality to this. Maybe something slightly tart, like an apple or even grapefruit-esque. It’s a really refreshing combination of the quince and the crisp vegetal green of the tea leaves. I enjoyed this both hot and iced. An interesting an pretty uncommon flavor profile. Hmmm…

Finally got time to try the sample from Nepali Tea Traders! I brewed this at work and almost completely forgot when I got caught up doing something else. thank goodness I was able to save it from oversteeped hell just in time. I was nervous at the first sip and was bracing myself for a bitter brew, but thankfully only sweet, sweet smooth masala was there to comfort me. This was a great sample, with all the right spice, sweetness and bread-like malty qualities I like in a chai. It packs the beast ratio of chai ‘punch’. I actually like the sachet it came in. it’s a convenient way for me to make a good cuppa at work without the fuss.

Bio

I dream in tea.

My name is Maddi. I like to take boiling hot showers and meditate in my closet. I think and talk about tea so much that it has become a punchline of sorts with my family and coworkers. Besides my unhealthy obsession with the drink that gives me life, I do yoga frequently, I make green smoothies out of any vegetables and fruit in the nearest vicinity, I am obsessed with Korean Dramas, I run as a form of moving meditation, and play video games with my easygoing and forgiving boyfriend. I used to cook for a living, and I almost always eat at least one waffle a day.

Favorite types of teas:
Aged Oolongs hold my heart. Sneaking their way in are Korean Greens. Roasted oolongs and I are not on speaking terms as of late. Black teas of all types, but especially Fujian and some Yunnan are nice indulgences more often than not. I know and love Japanese greens more than any kind, while Chinese greens bore me. Certain White teas thrill me, but most have me changing the channel. I love using my Yerba Mate gourd, we have become steadfast amigos. Puerh and I are still getting to know each other, and while sheng is playing hard to get, shou is there to hold my hand when no one is looking. I sometimes make my own functional herbal blends, and if there is a hell, it is filled with Rooibos. Above all else, direct – trade tea is my favorite.

First you heat the water.
