3294 Tasting Notes

As of today, I have drank every black tea in my collection (33) this month!
One of my goals was to drink one black tea per day, and admittedly, some of them have been drank more than once. Another goal is to drink every oolong & green tea, and I’m closing in on that goal as well, I have 10 to go. I’m also trying to complete my sip down extravaganza, at least for now, but enjoying anything that I only have one serving left of. I’m getting close!

So this tea…I’ve already reviewed it a few times: heady aroma, both sweet & floral, even a little incense to it. I can’t think of anything else to say, so I think it’s time for something else to drink…

Another sip down, I think I prefer this one over the ‘pigtails’ one.
It’s pleasant & sweet, kind of similar, but maybe a little sweeter, and more tangy, like citrus, and the tangy sensation lingers. Not a bad tea, not something I’d purchase, but I do like the presentation :)

Another Sipdown.
This one tastes pretty much as it did the last time I tried it…kind of like cherrios with a sprinkle of salt. Not bad, and a little almond on the side. A little grassy.
After awhile it gets this soapy aloe taste… ;p

maaaybe you’re just having a soap issue today lol

Terri HarpLady

nope! I’ve noticed that I occasionally get this with novelty shaped teas, the worse one ever being unicorn horn, LOL

This has been in my collection for quite some time, sent to me from Sil a few years ago, LOL.
I don’t know why I’ve been putting it off for so long, but today is the day.
It was quite sweet from the start, and the flavor was vaguely familiar…remember those caramels with the creme filling? There for a minute it actually reminded me of those. I wouldn’t say it tasted just like them, or was nearly as sweet as them, but there was something in the taste that brought them to mind. So there.
A few steeps later it was a little tangy, but overall the flavor was very light, and although not something I’d crave, there wasn’t anything I disliked about it…until…
the last round has a kind of soapy taste to it…
The End

This really is a lovely tea. As far as smokey teas go, it strikes a perfect balance between smoke & sweetness, & I’m thinking it is the sweetest of the smokies in my shelf. I have occasionally added a little maple to it in the past, and I admit that is a wonderful dessert tea, but it honestly is sweet enough by itself, which is the way I usually choose to drink it, and the way I’m drinking it now.

i’m so excited to try my smokey vanilla….

It’s hard to say, but I think this one might be my favorite of the purple black teas in my cupboard…or maybe it’s one of them? One of these days maybe I’ll do a side by side comparison (or maybe I already have & I’m getting senile).

This one, which I’ve already reviewed many times, is wonderfully nuanced with plums, a little maltiness, and eucalyptus. It’s sweet. Some of the steeps are especially sweet. Some are kind of creamy textured. Anyway, it’s lovely, and also reminds me of a really nice sheng. I have a very relaxing teabuzz vibe going on right now, and I don’t mind that at all!

Oh…I almost forgot to mention that this tea creates an amazing sensation in my sinuses…it’s hard to explain…not really like eucalyptus, but I can see how some might see it that way. It’s along the lines of an oolong incense after aroma kind of thing, but sweet…kind of like a cross between eucalyptus, plums, and … hell, I dunno know…!

A sad sip down…sigh…but tea is meant for drinking, and I’ve managed to stretch this one out as long as I could! This tea has been my accompaniment all day while I’ve been practicing for tomorrow night’s orchestra concert. When you’re a Harpist, you usually only attend the dress rehearsal, which is tonight.

I think most of my favorite teas from Verdant come from Wang Yanxin.

I’ve been enjoying this tea all morning, through many steeps.
This is one of those teas where you really want to heat up the yixing (or Gaiwan), put about 5G or so in there to warm up the leaf, and be prepared to instantly be addicted to the aroma. Heady, fruity, rich…it really is a treat to just sit there, eyes closed, slowly breathing in & out, savoring both inhale & exhale (the after-aroma). I could almost skip drinking the tea & just linger in this mindful breathing…for an old addict like me (32 years clean on Oct 1st…except for tea of course) this is what I consider a healthy addiction…but alas, I need tea in my system!

tangy dark fruits, cannabis, a rich incense, aged rum… In some ways this tea is almost like a decadent oolong…in other ways a sheng….it’s really loaded with features, including an awesome tea buzz…

This tea was a free sample from Camelia Sinensis. It really is a lovely little tea with a heady floral aroma that really lingers in the sinuses (I love it when that happens…lovely after-aroma). Initially I was thinking honeysuckle, but today it seems more like hyacinth. Whatever, the smell is heavenly. I’m not always in the mood for florals, but today I’m really enjoying it. Underlying that is the taste of blanched almonds (but not toasted) with a little vanilla & a hint of lychee.

I’m still in love with this blend.

Bio

I’m so excited to have found this community! I’m a self-employed Harpist (acoustic & electric – Originals, Classical, Rock, Jazz, etc) & Singer/Songwriter. My days & nights revolve around teaching at home, playing gigs, gardening,& fixing awesome food to eat. My schedule is different everyday, but I just go with the flow, & I sip a lot of tea!

My love of Tea began with Herbals back in the 70’s. One of my favorites was a licorice blend from House of Hezekiah, an old tea shop in Kansas City. There was also a tea with mint, rose petals, chamomile, etc called Nuclear Casual Tea.
In the 80’s I gave up caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, (& a few illicit substances…), and brewed medicinal blends & tinctures to support 4 pregnancies (all children born at home). In the 90’s my love affair with green teas began when I discovered ‘The Republic of Tea’. Their beautiful teas & packaging inspired my original song, “TeaMind”, from my CD “Zen Breakfast”. If you’d like to hear the song for free, drop by my website.

In general, I drink my teas straight, but occasionally I add a pinch of Stevia & maybe some coconut or almond milk (I’m allergic to dairy, gluten, & various other things & avoid most sweets.)

I’ve explored a variety of teas:
Whites tend to be a little bland…sorry
Oolongs – wonderfully sensual
Roobios – I’m not a fan in general
Puehr – a fairly new direction for me
I’m not a huge fan of flavored teas, but I do make exceptions, & I’ll try just about anything once.

And Black Tea, Oh how I love thee!!
I am on a quest for the most wonderful breakfast cup! I will find you, my Love!
