From Zen Tea

A lightly floral and smooth Baozhong Oolong from Taiwan is perfectly blended with creamy coconut to make our Coconut Oolong. The cakery coconut flavour is amazing, and tea is a very smooth, rich, almost milky tea with a natural sweetness and subtle floral notes.
If you love coconut milk sweets and sophisticated oolongs, this is your tea.

I got this as a sample from Zen Tea, and I really quite like it. From what I’ve tried, their teas seem to have a very good balance; the flavoring isn’t too strong as to overpower the tea, and the tea isn’t too overwhelming for the flavorings. This tea was a perfect example of that.

The smell of it was like a coconut candy, sweet and roasty smelling. I ended up steeping it three times, and by the third time the brew lost most of it’s “coconuttiness” but the oolong was still flavorful enough to enjoy. The first brew, however, was just what I would like to expect. Very smooth, very balanced.

I got an email from Zen Tea saying they’re having a sale right now, which made it the perfect excuse to start drinking this.

And so far, my hopes have proven correct: this is pretty similar to the Coconut Pouchong offered by Golden Moon Tea! I’m so glad to have found a domestic version.

Now, the big question is: do I really need more of this in my cupboard, considering I have a ridiculous amount of tea already and I’ve got a fairly sizeable Teavivre order coming my way? Hmmmm….

Do I really need more of this in my cupboard?

The million dollar question, heh.

Fjellrev

Good to know that they’re similar!

If anything, this version seems a little more buttery and floral. That could be because it’s fresher, though.

Green tea and colds don’t mix because you can’t properly taste anything. However, once you get better this is a good one to start off with! Floral notes. Hints of coconut especially in the after taste. My daughter is making faces at herself in the mirror and its pretty amusing (she’s 2.) Anyway, I’m going to try to cold steep this tea and see how it turns out.

Cold steep: I am a fan!!! I let it steep for at least 20 mins in cold water and yum. Quite good!

I’ve had a few coconut flavoured oolongs over the past few years, but this one is the best. Creamy, milky oolong with a dash of coconut = delicious! I’ve been drinking this tea quite frequently this week, and I think the third steeping of the leaves is the most ideal. The people at Zen Tea have managed to find the perfect balance of coconut flavour without sacrificing the taste of the oolong tea.

Ohhh, this is yummy. The base baozhong is a lovely light, sweet, slightly floral/vegetal oolong. The coconut flavour is sweet and creamy and delicious. I’m going to have to try this head to head against the Tao Tea Leaf coconut oolong, because I also love that one and I think they’re pretty similar.

I do love this tea and I’m sad it’s gone. But that means one step closer to reducing my stash and getting new tea! I have a long way to go… D: I like this tea because the coconut isn’t overwhelming. The nutty/buttery oolong is the dominant flavor with coconut kind of hanging out in the background. I added a little bit of honey to this and it tastes exactly like a coconut macaroon. MMmmmm <3

Here’s Hoping Traveling Teabox Round #3 – Tea # 31
I had to try this one! I thought there was only one serving left but measuring it out, there was 2 1/2 teaspoons. Baozhong oolong is certainly my favorite oolong. It’s light, buttery, floral, sweet. Here, it has additional coconut flavor. I was supposed to only use one teaspoon. The flavor wasn’t at all oversteeped anyway: no astringency. The oolong pairs so well with the coconut flavor. No actual coconut in the blend so the tea won’t be ruined faster. (Coconut: the ingredient that makes tea taste terrible faster.) But the coconut here is like a light breezy tropical flavor the pairs well with the long and wiry oolong. The coconut is actually stronger in flavor than the oolong. Both steeps were delicious. I don’t see this type of tea often, so I’d certainly stock up on this one at Zentealife.com. I recommend trying an unflavored Baozhong as well.
