From Yunnan Sourcing

This tea is harvested from untended bushes 野放茶 growing in the Guan Yang area of Fuding (Fujian province) at an altitude of 900 meters.

April 2019 harvested Gong Mei pluck white tea was aged in loose leaf form for almost 2 years in Fuding before being pressed into this cake in 2021.

This tea has a really unique fruit aroma “Guo Xiang” (果香), and thick long lasting and smooth mouth feel. Tea soup is a deep orange color and the brewed leaves are light brown in color. The qi is very balanced and the tea leaves have excellent stamina. You can feel the relatively high altitude growing conditions when drinking this tea!

357 Grams per cake

Region: Guan Yang, Fuding, Fujian.

I have a free one of these on the way with a YS order… I overlooked the fact that I already have a sizable sample of the stuff. Oopsie.

All is well, because this is very nice. I think it would be a beautiful candidate for icing in summer, too. Buttercups and sun-warmed honey on the leaf and nose, a very wet pour that starts light golden and quite clear, then quickly progresses to the caramel color of a medium black tea. I steeped long and never got anywhere near astingency or tannin. Taste is light and wet, nectar and clover. Tobacco note on the wet leaf.

Reminiscent of LP’s Indonesian Yellow… a “poor man’s.”

The smell of the dry leaf does not at all reflect the taste of this white tea. The smell of dried apricots quickly ends up tasting like “dirty” laundry water.

The taste leaves a lot left to be desired, but the liquor itself is gorgeous, boasting a champagne-like color and being extremely thick.

After this taste test I am not sure that white tea is going to be for me…
