From Yunnan Sourcing

This is a classic “Te Zhi” Special (特制) production pressed in 2003 from the Bai Shai Xi Tea Factory in Anhua County of Hunan. The tea has been aged there until now. We purchased stock and are keeping the majority of the stock in Hunan storage.

This is a Fu Zhuan that has a good amount of Golden Flowers (金花), but they are not equally distributed throughout the brick, so the best to get them is to purchase the whole brick. We can’t guarantee everyone will get the Golden Flowers in their order of this tea (unless they order the whole brick). Rergardless, the tea is incredibly unique. It’s got hints of hay, mint and yerba mate. Smooth and spicy in the mouth, there is a strong cooling feeling when drinking this tea followed by a minty taste.

Bai Sha Xi Tea Factory in Anhua County of Hunan is the earliest producer of “Dark Tea” (hei cha) in Hunan and the first to produce the Golden Flower bricks in China. Bai Sha Xi was established in 1940 to product Hei Cha bricks, then in 1953 they produced the first Fu Brick with Golden Flowers.

I was persuaded to try Hei Cha after watching some tdb.org reviews of them and I have to say, despite the dirt smell and unappealing look of this tea, the golden liquor was quite tasty—honey sweet and tangy—and very easy to drink. It’s a powerhouse too; I was able to steep this upwards of 15 times with little drop off in flavor and the buzz rivaled that of a quality raw pu erh.
