A "gong ting" (tribute grade) heavy recipe made from Menghai area harvested and fermented tea leaves. Strong taste with alot of sweetness and some bitterness but with a strong hui gan. Expertly fermented in Menghai area tea factory under the supervision Li Hua Lian.

The tea soup is a deep clear burgundy. Initial steeps are smooth and later ones reveal more nuances than most previous shus I’ve tried. I picked up subtle hints of bittersweet dark chocolate, sour grape/red wine notes. It also has an aftertaste that lingers for a while. I may add more leaf in future brews.
I don’t find it as sweet as others have, but subtle bitterness in the aftertaste indicate its aging potential.
Drinking this as I write. Impressed by the incredibly dark opaque brew and not just when brewing in the gaiwan with a large tea to water ratio but even in 10-12 oz of water. The flavor is deep, sweet, nicely tingly on the tongue with a great, sweet, long finish. Will have to report back when I have the time to see how it holds up and changes (or not) over multiple steeps. My only regret? I didn’t buy it at YS.us when it was only around 16 bucks. Now $22 but with last weeks 10% discount, well worth it … at it’s former price – a ridiculously great deal.

@telizzy – mr mo is an awesome teacher and has given me a ton of advice on setting up my storage (he IS the PuRu after all). He predicted a pumidor for me too. He’s usually right. Good luck with that “realistic” thing.

@mr mo – AWESOME! I unwrapped several of my cakes to check for mold and so far so good and it smells delicious in there. It will come as no surprise to you, but I’m getting ready to expand. I’m going to make my shumidor using a grow tent from amazon. A SMALL grow tent. I’m probably going to order it today. The shou stash is getting big, bless my heat.

What a great bargain from Yunnan Sourcing. I bought this knowing nothing about it, except that it is “gong tin” heavy, and I usually like a solid gong ting (meaning tribute grade, I think). Being only $14, I added this to a recent order. It is quite good. Dark but not musty, fairly smooth with some bitterness. Early steeps were sweet and jammy. I wish that had held on longer, it was a perfect example of sweet fruit in a ripe tea. Later steeps were still very good, with more subtle fruity notes. This tea has a very high quality to price ratio. Only available on the YS China site, though they have some not so costly shopping options these days.
I like this shou. Main reason why it’s some bitterness. When shou is sweet it’s just boring
Agreed. This one has clean kind of bitterness I associate with good quality leaf. It has interesting textures, as well, and I don’t mean graininess.
